Umpqua National Forest's Steamboat Falls Campground sits one mile off Steamboat Road, roughly an hour southeast of Roseburg, with nine sites that vary considerably in size and layout. Site 4 gives the most room, fitting at least three tents, while sites 1 and 2 sit close together and work better when reserved as a pair. Two trails lead down to the water, where swimmers can access the river and jump from rocks, though the river itself is protected from fishing. Poison oak is present throughout the area and well-signed. Pets are welcome, and dog-friendly campgrounds near Umpqua National Forest give additional options for campers traveling with animals. The campground runs from June through December. Come for the waterfall views and stay for the swimming.
