Loop A and Loop B at Rolling View offer sites with electric and water hookups, while Loop C provides primitive camping on gravel pads without utilities. The campground sits within Falls Lake State Recreation Area, managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, with multiple access points to the 12,000-acre lake.
Aircraft noise from nearby RDU International Airport punctuates the daytime hours, though reviewers note it quiets down after dark. David B. found the bathhouse "warm and comfortable" with plenty of water pressure during his winter visit. Sites feature picnic tables, fire rings with grates, and lantern posts, with many offering lake views through the rolling terrain that gives the campground its name.
The swimming beach requires a half-mile hike via the Mountains to Sea Trail, which passes directly through the campground. Multiple fishing piers extend into Falls Lake, where campers spot herons and aquatic turtles. A marina provides boat launch access, though popup storms can interrupt water activities. Greg S. notes "cool rocks along the lake to climb on and swim off of" near the fishing areas.
Loop C's primitive sites present drainage challenges during rain events, with several reviewers reporting standing water on the flat, gravel surfaces. The hookup loops offer better site leveling, though some pads in Loop B require significant adjustments for RVs. Cell service varies by carrier, with AT&T providing adequate coverage. For additional primitive options, Shinleaf — Falls Lake State Recreation Area offers walk-in sites 4.4 miles east.
Rolling View works well for RV campers seeking lakefront access and families wanting swimming and fishing opportunities, provided they can tolerate periodic aircraft noise and plan around weather for tent camping in Loop C.
