The lake has plenty of calm water for swimming, boating or fishing for bass, bream, crappie and catfish. King's Mountain Point, just 1 mile from the group camp, has four accessible fishing piers, miles of shoreline and a nice swimming area. A boat ramp is located 2 miles from the campground. Back on land, about 40 miles of non-motorized trails are available for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking, as well as 17 miles of motorized trails for off-road vehicle riding. The surrounding land offers both big and small game hunting.
The campground lies in a dense forest of pines and hardwoods near the shore of 5,000-acre Badin Lake. Winter temperatures range from the low 30s to upper 50s, while summer brings temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s and high humidity. Canebrake Horse Camp lies in the Badin Lake Recreation Area, a hub for outdoor activities in central North Carolina's Uwharrie National Forest. The facility is a scenic and restful overnight spot with both single and double campsites. Canebrake Horse Camp is specifically designed for campers traveling with horses and offers numerous amenities for equestrian camping. ScoutI have stayed here multiple times. I really love setting up on the water sites and having my kayak and fishing gear ready to go. The golf course is excellent and price friendly. Easy to get to nearby towns if one chooses to get to civilization.
TravelerDidn’t have any expectations of this place since it’s in the middle of nowhere and not many photos. We loved it here. We were lucky enough to catch a great view of Jupiter merging with Saturn last night. Super cheap. We stayed four nights for under $100. 30/50 hookups and water. No sewer but very close dump station in campground. Primitive camping area for tents too. Pull through sites and back in. Spacious sites that feel nicely private surrounded by evergreens which is a nice relief in winter to see trees with leaves. The lake is beautiful. Awesome walking trail that takes you to the other side of the lake where there is a playground. Lots of swings and benches and picnic tables around. Barely anyone here in December, so it feels so nice to be out of our house but not needing masks constantly. When it isn’t off season they have cheap boat rentals. Firewood is $6.50 per bundle.

TravelerWe recently returned from 5 days tent camping at Cheraw. We chose site #8 that was directly on the lake and offered electricity and water. These sites are obviously designed for RV’s with little or no space for tent campers. Although there is a designated tent area, it is back in the woods and not lakefront.
The minimal room we had was fortunately on the lake shore with wonderful shade trees. The space was not level and contained some unfriendly exposed tree roots. Fortunately we had an inflatable air bed and the roots weren’t much of a problem.
Lake Juniper is quite small and swimming is allowed in a designated area on the far side of the lake. We had inflatable rafts and tied our floats to a tree in front of our site , highly aware that a spillway not too far from our site would prove quite dangerous if one went too close then pulled over.
The small office on the opposite side of the lake offers ice and wood as well as ice cream, candy etc to satisfy any junk food craving. 10 minutes from the park is an IGA. It offers the basics and a little further out is a Walmart with groceries.
The bathhouse is currently “ under construction” although we saw no work being done during our stay. One half of the bathhouse had been designated unisex with three locking stalls and curtained showers. There is an interior lock if you choose to have the entire bathhouse all to yourself. I grew up in a family of eight and have no problem sharing a bathroom. The bathhouse has obviously seen a great deal of traffic, is quite dated and poorly ventilated. Hopefully the bathhouse will receive its update soon.
The campground host was quite helpful and an all around nice guy. We chatted a bit and he has a very interesting background.
We would return to Cheraw and confidently reserve #7 or #8 for tents. There are most likely other suitable sites there that escaped my notice.

Not much around the campground though. If you want peace and quiet, and don't need shopping or touristy stuff- this is for you.

ScoutCheraw state Park was an overall good camping experience. We stayed in the tent camping area, which was well kept. My only complaint is that the sites are somewhat close together, but it's not a huge deal. Park is well kept and the sights are worth seeing. Plenty of trails to walk down, with a boardwalk that covers the side of lake juniper.

LegendWonderful campground located minutes from the beach! We really like this campground a ton! The site that we had branched off right onto the beach after a 10-15 minute walk. There are also plenty of bike trails and walking trails in the area. Bird sanctuary so birders will LOVE this campground! There is also a really nice museum type of visitor’s center. Check this one out for sure!
GuideWe stayed in the camp juniper group area this time, but have camped in the regular campground in the past. The regular sites are usually full, and very close, but the lake front sites are gorgeous and worth being close to neighbors. The trail around the lake is very pretty, and there are lots of things to do across the lake. (Boat rentals, playground, picnic areas, park office…)
the only drawback to the group area is that it's not directly on the lake, and there are no bathrooms. Bring a bucket potty, or drive to the other camp area to use the bath house. Or do the 200-yard hike-with-a-trowel... Our Girl Scouts and Daisies managed just fine, though!

LegendThis is a great place for quiet, no frills camping. There are 7 camping areas, 5 of which have camping shelters. Sites 3 & 4 only have picnic tables and trash barrels. All sites except for site 7 are easily accessible with most vehicles. Site 7's entryway was washed out and had some large holes that would benefit from higher clearance and 4WD.
We stayed in site 1B and had no issue finding a spot by the water in our 22' travel trailer. Sites are well dispersed and we only saw a few other campers all weekend. We will definitely stay here again.
LegendThis was our second time visiting “The Mountain”. We enjoyed Site 1B so much from our last visit we decided to reserve the same site again. There was some trash from previous campers littered around the site when we arrived. Please don’t be a litterbug! This is a terrific boondocking site and one of the few in the Midlands that is accessible for RV camping.

There is a lot for a family to do at Morrow Mountain including fishing and a swimming pool. My main thing is usually hiking. I stayed at the family campground once to get an early start on hiking. Saw several deer while I was there. The family campground is separated from the road by some trees but there is still noise from cars, like in any family campground I suppose.
I hiked past the primitive campground which is fine, only 2 miles in. But there is no water so make sure you take enough for the night.
ScoutIt's a great place to squeeze in a quick camping trip. It's not a place to camp for any length of time. This is more like self serve camping, primitive. Be careful for ticks are awful.
ScoutMy wife and I went for an overnight camping trip. We registered online for 2 nights but changed plans due to incoming rain. Unfortunately changing the registration online wasn't so simple and I ended up having to call in to make the change. The campsite was clean and well kept. Where we stayed there was a bath house nearby which was very convenient. The bath house was clean and had hot showers. We rode down to the river and walked along one of the trails as well as rented a canoe for a short paddle down the river. Overall the park was very nice and clean. We enjoyed our stay. I rated a 4 out of 5 due to the closeness of the campsite which led to a lot of noise from other campsites and the inability to easily change the registration.

ScoutVery family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).
GuideThe swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.
GuideWe had 4 families with children on 1 RV and 3 non-electric tent sites over Memorial Day weekend. Even though the park was at max capacity, it didn’t feel crowded or swarming. The facilities and activities at Morrow Mountain are awesome - a huge, clean pool; canoe rental from a well-maintained boathouse; hikes of various lengths; slightly aged but clean and cared for bath houses; and (our favorite) a gorgeous mountain top picnic shelter (A), which we rented due to a rainy forecast. Great place for family camping. Sites are nicely spaced, but by no means are they private or secluded. Staff were very friendly, but the no alcohol rule is a bummer. If you want to be alone in the woods, Morrow Mountain is not for you. Its also worth noting the climate is much more like south central NC (hot and super humId) and nothIng like the cool mountain air in Western NC. But if your looking for a fun, interactive family or group camping weekend, it’s the perfect spot!
ScoutI went for a weekend with my girlfriends and then went with three families and stayed at a group site. if you have enough people the group site is amazing. we were able to be on our own and had great facilities for showering. This is by far my favorite place to go camping.
