Best Cabin Camping near Wadesboro, NC

Cabin accommodations near Wadesboro include several state and county park options with varying levels of comfort and amenities. Morrow Mountain State Park Campground offers cabin rentals with electric hookups and basic furnishings. Cheraw State Park Campground, located about 30 minutes south, provides lakefront cabins with water and electric service. "The cabins are a great option if you don't want to deal with tent setup but still want the outdoor experience," noted one visitor who appreciated the clean facilities and proximity to hiking trails. Dan Nicholas Park and Cane Creek Park also maintain cabin rentals with picnic tables and fire rings included at each site.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Norwood Campground offers cabin accommodations with access to their swimming pool and fishing pond, while Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort features more upscale cabin options with proximity to the amusement park. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months when availability becomes limited. Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from basic to fully equipped, with some locations offering only outdoor cooking options via fire pits with grates. Sycamore Lodge provides more extensive amenities in their cabins, including access to their pool and hot tub. On-site camp stores at several locations stock firewood, ice, and basic provisions. Larger grocery stores can be found in Albemarle (near Morrow Mountain) and Charlotte (near Carowinds). Visitors planning extended stays should bring food supplies, as some of the more remote cabin locations have limited nearby shopping options.

    Cane Creek Park

A Great Place for the Whole Family.

Located just outside historic Waxhaw NC, Cane Creek is part of the NC Soil Conservative Sites. They offer day passes,$4.00 per car where you can launch you kayak canoe or fishing boat. If you like Bass Fishing, they rank as one of the best spots around. They have swimming areas for both day users and one for campers. This really is a gem within Union Co NC. The campground is on the other side of the lake. They have camping for RV’s, Cabin Rentals and tent sites for either large groups or individuals. The hiking trail is beautiful and takes you around the whole lake. Watch for horses, as this is a great place for riders too.

    Cane Creek Park

    Great clean campground

We have stayed at Cane Creek 2x now and enjoy the park so much. Lake, hiking trails and nice wooded campsites with fire rings and close proximity to bath houses. Playground for kids, little store, friendly staff. Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid. Only problem is that both times we visited there was a storm and power went out for hours. Can’t really do anything about that!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

    Good

So, if you end up in a crap site you might drop those 4 stars to 3. Its going to be impossible to determine a great site from a bad without going there since the only pic they have online is from site 1. B loop, has a lot of RVs. A loop, has the amphitheater. C loop, felt like the smallest loop and really close to the entry hiking trail. We've stayed in both A and C. C loop, site 48, is where we stayed this trip. Its a good site. Close to the showers, which are clean and well maintained. Close to the trash bins and water spicket as well. Behind the site is a great little "valley" to explore if you have kids/dogs. Has awesome trees for hammocks and the tent pad doesnt slope. Did not love the fire pit at this site but the sites to the left and right are great. Overall, tons of sites and good clean facilities. The trails are plentiful so you shouldnt run out of places to explore.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    VERY Nice campground!!

The camping spots were clean and well kept....some have water and electric hookups and some are more rustic. There are plenty of large spaces for RVs with lots of room around them for privacy. It felt very private even though there were people all around. The bathrooms and showers were amazingly clean and they had a giant heater you can turn on over the showers when it's cold outside! There is a lake with a swimming area that was also well-maintained and clean, it has a boardwalk that goes around a large portion of the lake that connects the campground with the beach are. You can rent kayaks and canoes to take out on the lake, and the fishing is excellent! They also have rental cabins by the swimming area but I've never stayed in one. It is a nice campground, quiet and great for children! I will definitely go back!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

Great family camping, but regular campground is crowded

We stayed in the camp juniper group area this time, but have camped in the regular campground in the past. The regular sites are usually full, and very close, but the lake front sites are gorgeous and worth being close to neighbors. The trail around the lake is very pretty, and there are lots of things to do across the lake. (Boat rentals, playground, picnic areas, park office…)

the only drawback to the group area is that it's not directly on the lake, and there are no bathrooms. Bring a bucket potty, or drive to the other camp area to use the bath house. Or do the 200-yard hike-with-a-trowel... Our Girl Scouts and Daisies managed just fine, though!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Family friendly, clean, quiet considering close proximity of neighbors

Very family friendly camp ground. Sites are close together, but not too terrible. Sites include tent pad, fire ring with grate, table, lantern hook. Facilities we're kept nicely, host was very helpful and makes rounds in the evenings with firewood ($5 bundle). Hiked the trail head near the campground, to the river.. lovely hike NO RIVER ACCESS FOR FISHING though... Embankment is too steep, we learned this after the 2.5 mile hike with the kids... Went down the road to the lake the next day (they have boat rentals, though we didn't get one).

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

    Pretty Basic

Plentiful campsites, we arrived on a Friday without a reservation and were able to get a spot. There is a swimming pool, but we didn't swim. Some hikes nearby, but far from the swimming spots in the Uwharrie National Forest. No bathrooms near the campsites, but there were spigots with potable water. The tent pads were even and well packed. All sites had a picnic bench and a fire pit with a grate.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    Off season gem!

Didn’t have any expectations of this place since it’s in the middle of nowhere and not many photos. We loved it here. We were lucky enough to catch a great view of Jupiter merging with Saturn last night. Super cheap. We stayed four nights for under $100. 30/50 hookups and water. No sewer but very close dump station in campground. Primitive camping area for tents too. Pull through sites and back in. Spacious sites that feel nicely private surrounded by evergreens which is a nice relief in winter to see trees with leaves. The lake is beautiful. Awesome walking trail that takes you to the other side of the lake where there is a playground. Lots of swings and benches and picnic tables around. Barely anyone here in December, so it feels so nice to be out of our house but not needing masks constantly. When it isn’t off season they have cheap boat rentals. Firewood is $6.50 per bundle.

Guide to Wadesboro

Cabin accommodations near Wadesboro sit within North Carolina's southern Piedmont region, characterized by gently rolling hills and mixed hardwood forests at elevations between 200-500 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Most cabin rentals in this area require advance bookings of 2-4 weeks during peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

What to do

Lake activities: Swimming and fishing at Cane Creek Park's lake are popular options for cabin campers. "We exhausted ourselves hiking and canoeing and much more stuff to do!" noted a visitor to Morrow Mountain State Park. The park rents canoes and row boats seasonally.

Putt-putt golf: Free mini-golf is available at Cane Creek Park for campers. "The mini golf is free and a blast," reports a camper. Some cabin areas have additional recreation options like volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.

Hiking trails: Trail systems connect many cabin areas to surrounding attractions. At Cheraw State Park, "there is a nice little walk partially around the lake" that connects camping areas to the beach area, approximately a 10-minute walk. Most trails in the region are rated easy to moderate with minimal elevation change.

What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Many cabin guests appreciate well-maintained bathroom facilities. At Cane Creek Park, "The campground is clean and well-maintained. The bathhouse is in good shape and clean," according to a recent visitor. Some cabin locations feature private bathrooms while others use shared facilities.

Quiet camping atmosphere: The relative seclusion creates peaceful stays at many area cabins. A guest at Norwood Campground described their experience as "Quiet and peaceful. Very quiet and peaceful... Lot of hiking paths which our dog loved."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Cabin stays often include wildlife sightings. "I saw several deer while I was there," noted a camper at Morrow Mountain. Early morning and dusk provide the best wildlife viewing times at most locations.

What you should know

Reservations required: Nearly all cabin locations require advance reservations, with holiday weekends booking 3-6 months ahead. Unfortunately changing the registration online wasn't so simple and I ended up having to call in to make the change," reported a visitor to Morrow Mountain.

Educational opportunities: Several parks offer nature programs for children. "They also have a museum you can check out during the day," mentions a Morrow Mountain visitor, while other parks feature wildlife exhibits or ranger-led programs during summer months.

Kid-friendly cabin selection: Choose cabins with appropriate sleeping arrangements. At Sycamore Lodge, cabins accommodate different group sizes, and the park offers "Putt Putt, Horse Shoes, Basketball, Swimming Pool, and Game Room" according to a visitor. Most family cabins sleep 4-6 people comfortably.

Tips from RVers

Site levelness varies: Some cabin locations also offer RV sites with varying terrain. At Morrow Mountain, "Site 98 in the electric loop is for tent and pop up campers, but is not pop up camper friendly. The ground is very uneven," cautions one RVer. Request specific site information when booking.

Off-season advantages: Visiting during shoulder seasons provides benefits. At Carowinds Camp Wilderness, "We stayed when the amusement park was closed so it was very quiet and hardly anyone there," reports a camper. Spring and fall typically offer milder temperatures and lower humidity.
