overpriced, crowded and filthy

Staff was friendly and lot of amenities but this place was totally gross and overpriced.  I was out on OBX for father's day weekend and didn't have any other option.  I figured this would be a treat but it was far from it.  It looked like camping outside of Talladega on race day.  I spent $100 bucks for a small spot with water and electric hookup.

I woke up early and the sunrise was nice. Beach access is very convenient.  Then I went to do laundry and every machine was broken except for one lone dryer.  I went to the main building for their other laundry room and that was fine except for there being drips of dried blood and dog vomit everywhere.  The vomit was localized to two spots but the blood was trailed from the pool, up the steps and even smeared on the gate that I had touched earlier. You'd hope that was an isolated blood incident but later in the day I went into a shower and there was old dried blood on the shower curtain!
Save your money and get a hotel.

I called the place and it says it's not this spot.... Wrong contact information on this listing. Then I actually found the correct website and tried to book the minimum was 136/night basically on par for hotels in that area. The listing shows 36$-130... Inaccurate information.

Great place to stay

First let me say that I stayed in a tent. It’s still very warm at night. So bring a big fan.

Now on to the campground. The sites are big. They have a big driveway and offer plenty of room to spread out.

The restrooms/showers are very nice! Very clean, offer great privacy and the air conditioning keeps it nice and cool.

The location is great. The beach is easy to access with parking for your car or golf cart. It is possible to walk but I recommend driving.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

Getting groceries is difficult. There aren’t many options. Bring supplies if you can.

I would recommend this to anyone looking to camp at the beach.

Beautiful Campground with Ocean Views

This is a review from our stay in non peek season and before local businesses opened from COVID so information other than the park is limited.

My family and I stayed here for a week and had a great time!

  • Sites are paved and very spacious. Not 1 bad site.
  • We stayed on the beach side and wished we stayed on the other side. The beach side is WINDY! Also, there isn't really a beach view on the beach side. The sand dunes cover it up. The sound side is calm and has beautiful inlet views....this is where to camp!
  • shower house is well maintained and clean
  • nice laundry house which accepts debit cards
  • play ground and putt-putt area was convenient since nothing was open locally

Downside - grocery shopping is a challenge because there is only a small convenient store and a dollar general. You need to drive 30 minutes to the grocery.

Family trip

We've been to the obx many many times. Usually rent a house for a week or two. We just used this campground as a base camp to get out every day and explore the beach or sound.

We stayed in a soundfront site and paid a premium. It was not sound frount. It was on the canal and the view blocked by other campers. The sites are right. I felt like the neighbors sewer hose was under our pinic table.

We only used the laundry area in the entire place so I can't help with anything there. This is due to us having a driving pass to drive on the cape Hatteras seashore, which is why we go.

No shade. Don't know if we will be back

A money machine!

Good:

  • Flat site with concrete pad and patio
  • Wooden picnic table
  • Dog park with a couple trees, benches, water, obstacles, doggie bags & garbage
  • Access and proximity to sound and nice beach
  • Paved trail for walking or biking going north or south along Hwy 12 right outside campground
  • Well kept bathhouse - better on Sound Side where it’s newer
  • Amenities in great condition like mini golf, playground, tennis court

Meh: <>Full hookup although water pedestal was way forward and separated from sewer and electric. No idea why it’s different here than other campgrounds but it makes for lots of obstacles to avoid when parking. And after parking, we had to move our RV forward to reach the water spigot even with our long hose. <> Indoor and outdoor pools and hot tub - nice to have and good size but could use TLC <> Not enough activities esp. considering size of campground and site cost. But water balloon fight for kids was very well organized with lots of balloons, and kids rewarded with ice cream coupon for picking up balloon litter. Win/win!

Bad:

  • Sites were way cramped – they really pack you in.
  • They tell you to be considerate and not cut through sites but can’t contribute a few feet to offer a path rather than walking a long way around. THEY should be considerate!
  • Most expensive campground we’ve ever been to even just for two adults. But cable, kids, dogs, extra adults each cost $3 - $8 more daily. It REALLY adds up to be ridiculous. We hooked up to cable and got it for free. We refused to claim extra people and pet. Even the people Boon-docking in their van for one night in their cheaper sound site - arriving late and leaving early - paid $98.
  • Only 4 ocean front sites on northeast corner, at most, have any chance of seeing the ocean from the site. Between dunes, campground roadway, pavilion and parking between all other oceanfront sites and beach, we’d a been hoppin’ mad if we’d paid an extra $50 nightly for those.
  • It’s windy, people are slobs, and they do pick up some litter, but not nearly enough. There was lots of litter on sites, caught up in bushes and grasses, mowed over when they mowed without picking litter first, caught up in sound next to their wooden boardwalk. We asked repeatedly for them to clean up. Staff was friendly but ignored us so...really Not so friendly. GM got involved and made it happen, but still plenty more. We picked up some. They need a staff cultural change to constantly pick litter and not mow without picking litter first.
  • Tennis court was new and in fabulous condition with lines for pickle ball and youth tennis too. But only open when office was open beginning at 9 AM. It’s HOT then. We brought our own rackets and went to play early in the morning before seeing sign and locked gate. Ugh!
  • No fire pits provided like at KOA two doors south and they tell you that if you bring your own fire pit it must be off the ground. Sheesh! We brought ours but it was too windy for us or anyone else to do a fire, leave our awnings, canopies etc. up anyway. Bummer!

Ugly: — Wi-Fi is pretty much zero. We connected a time or two in four days from our site in early morning/dark hours but couldn’t even check email. Only places to get on were at hotspots in clubhouse. Staff says it’s because people are streaming/overloading. Nope, it’s because they need to update their system for their 400 sites.

Super Large RV Resort

Camp Hatteras RV Resort is incredibly large. You can stay beachfront or you can stay sound front. This is the largest campground we have ever stayed at. And from the sound of it, it is always jampacked.

We selected to stay sound front because we were interested in paddle boarding on the on sound. Plus, if you stay on the sound side, you get beautiful sunsets.

It is definitely a hike if you stay on the sound side to get beachfront. We rode our bikes over there each day and it was work, considering we were carrying our beach chairs and beach supplies.

They had a really great food truck on site. You could get breakfast, lunch and dinner there.

They had a very large dog playground that was well-maintained, as well as other amenities like a basketball court, miniature golf , shuffle board and tennis.

There is not much shade whatsoever, so take that into consideration when visiting.

It was a great stay and would definitely stay again.

Oceanfront RV Park

We stayed over Christmas so as you would imagine, it was very quite. Its true oceanfront so you hear the waves from the van. Firewood and Ice available at the campstore. The sites are very close together with picnic tables. Note: no fire rings. If you wish to have a fire its BYO ring which must be up off the ground. The amenities are nice, loads of full hookup sites. Great location. Expensive park. Friendly owners. Contact-less check-In was easy with a pre-prepared pack.

Beautiful Gem on the Atlantic

My family and I spent five days in early December at this gorgeous campground. It was perfect! We arrived late which was no problem with their contactless check in. The rv spots are flat and clearly marked and very easy full hook ups. We pretty much had the place to ourselves due to the season. We were steps from the beach and enjoyed fishing, shell searching, and the beautiful views. The grounds have mini golf, tennis and basketball courts which the kids loved. Everything was extraordinarily clean. We will definitely be back!

This was a great campsite! We came in after dark, but they are open late to still check us in. The parking spot for the trailers are paved and that was an easy set up. Nice week in mid June

We stayed at the Atlantic beach side of the campground, sites were just over the dunes from the beach. Beach area was for use by camp Hatteris customers and was uncrowded the times we were there. Facilities were clean and well equipped. Some free games putt putt golf and such, game room with coin operated pool tables and video games. Campground was very busy most of the time with a lot of golf carts running around the narrow streets but relatively quiet evenings and friendly staff. Lost power a couple of times during our stay, the day we left it was out for a few hours had to use the generator, for what they charge for a site seems they could have a backup power source. The nearest town was Nags Head about 30 ,miles has all the usual restaurants and shops, grocery stores and Walmart. Kitty Hawk is 45 minutes away with the Wright brothers museum. The ferryboat ride to ocracoke island is essential to a visit to the OBX very nice little town.

Booked next year already

Just got back from another trip here. Site 382 and most of the sound front sites now have less tall grass (to improve view?) And the sound front area now has large rocks on the shore for erosion control. This is good and bad, it's now much harder for people and dogs to go out there and swim and harder to launch paddleboards and kayaks into the sound. We made it work and still went in with our dogs, but watched many struggle to launch a kayak, often needing 2-3 people to make it work.

We still love everything this place has to offer and they seem to be increasing their Facebook presence, posting activity reminders on their page for those of us staying to keep us up to date on where and when activities are. It's a nice touch to stay connected with guests.

We stayed for two weeks in July and dealt with heat waves and other days of terrible winds, either way it was an amazing place to call home for that long. Laundry is easy to access and the bath houses are clean and well lit inside and out.

They are also in a great location to walk or bike to shops, restaurants, ice cream, the pier and other activies, yet still not be in an over run touristy area. There were many days we walked to shops, breakfast, lunch and gift shops.

Highly recommend it here and can't wait to go back.

Large campground on both sides of Hwy 12 - sound front and ocean front!

Camp Hatteras is a gated campground in the Outer Banks of NC.  this was a very large campground with level pads for RV's, picnic tables at every site, a bathhouse near a covered picnic area and a beautiful board walk to the beach.

They had many fun amenities our kids loved, like shuffleboard, tennis a playground, basketball court, game room, putt-putt  and more!!  There was a fishing pond for catch and release fishing (on site) and even bike parking! There was even a dog obstacle course would be quite an experience for any family with four legged friends!  There is a laundry room on site and even a conference center on the sound side of Hwy 12.

We also liked that we could choose a site on the ocean side or on the sound side.  We have had such beautiful sunsets on the Outer Banks - we couldn't resist the sound side!  The sites are close together - just hope for good neighbors!

Our biggest disappointment was that there were no fire pits - although we did have a bonfire on the beach (after acquiring a permit) - not the same as at your site!
