Harriman State Park's Suffern-Bear Mountain trail hosts this free, hike-in primitive site about 2.5 miles from the Gate Hill Road trailhead. The full trail runs 15 miles out and back. Reaching the campsite requires completing a difficult rock scramble, after which the site sits at the top with open views from elevation. Campers need to carry all gear up the mountain, so packing light is a practical necessity. Cell service is available, and campfires are permitted. The Harriman State Park Campground provides a drive-in alternative for those who prefer not to haul supplies uphill.
