Forest Road 533

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Santa Fe National Forest's dispersed camping along Forest Road 533 gives drive-in campers roughly four pullout spots set among tall trees with good shade cover. The fourth pullout sits in a small clearing not visible from the road, with established rock fire circles in place for when burn bans aren't in effect. Road access is manageable for lower-clearance vehicles, though deep ruts on the entry path require careful line selection. T-Mobile signal is variable depending on where you stand. On Memorial Day weekend, only two of the four sites were occupied, suggesting light use even during busy periods. Anglers and travelers looking for campgrounds around Cuba will find this a functional overnight stop roughly 20 minutes from town, well-suited to those who want shade, low traffic, and a no-fee dispersed setup without much else.

Great little clearing off the forest road

I was on a long road/camping trip and knew I needed to pull over to catch some sleep. This spot was about 20 minutes out of town and was perfect. There were about 4 pullouts off this forest road for camping, only two were occupied on Memorial Day weekend. The spot I chose was the fourth one was nice little clearing not visible from the road. It had several great tent spots, tall trees, lots of shade. There were rock fire circles for when there wasn’t a burn ban. I only heard two cars in the entire 12 hours I was there. The path into the clearing had some deep ruts, but I stayed to the side and my little Corolla did great.

I have metro T-Mobile and had signal depending on where I stood.
