Departure Point Campground

Departure Point Campground is near Wolf Creek, MT, and features terrain with rolling hills and a nearby lake. Temperatures range from lows in the 20s Fahrenheit during winter to highs in the 80s during summer. Campers can explore Holter Lake for fishing and boating or visit the Gates of the Mountains for scenic views and hiking opportunities.

BLM Land — Butte Field Office

Departure Point Recreation Area is available for public day use and camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. Camp hosts or staff members are typically available onsite 7 days a week, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Day use annual parking passes are available for $40. Please see the office for details. The fee season goes from May 1 to mid-October. Available facilities: 4 campsites (upper parking lot, paved area only) 2 restrooms Beach and large grass area 4 picnic tables available for daytime use Fishing access Potable water is not available at Departure Point. Potable water can be accessed at Log Gulch (driving distance approximately 1/4 mile).

Parking Lot Camping

Departure Point campground is basically camping in a parking lot. Four "campsites" are lined parking spots in a large paved area with a picnic table and fire ring at the end of the parking spot. The four spots are right next to each other. If you want to set up a tent you will be setting it up on the pavement. The area has two vault toilets, running water and trash service. Down below the camping area is a nice day use area with four picnic tables three of which are covered and right on the edge of the lake. Camping is not allowed in the day use area along the lake. So if you want to tent camp you will want to head to one of the other BLM campgrounds on the lake.
