Departure Point Campground on Holter Lake functions more like a paved staging area than a traditional campground. Four sites are lined parking spots in a large paved lot, each with a picnic table and fire ring at the end of the space. Tents go on pavement. The BLM site has drinking water, vault toilets, and trash service, but no pets are allowed and road access is rough. A day-use area with covered picnic tables sits directly on the lake below, though camping is not permitted there. Paddlers and boaters can also reach the site by water. Campers wanting a more conventional setup may find Little Log Campground, 0.4 miles north, a better fit, and there are additional campgrounds near BLM Land — Butte Field Office worth comparing before booking.
Description
Departure Point Recreation Area is available for public day use and camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. Camp hosts or staff members are typically available onsite 7 days a week, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Day use annual parking passes are available for $40. Please see the office for details. The fee season goes from May 1 to mid-October. Available facilities: 4 campsites (upper parking lot, paved area only) 2 restrooms Beach and large grass area 4 picnic tables available for daytime use Fishing access Potable water is not available at Departure Point. Potable water can be accessed at Log Gulch (driving distance approximately 1/4 mile).
