Beaverhead National Forest's Elk Lake Dispersed Camping and Picnic Area sits at the south end of Elk Lake in southwestern Montana, where the Red Rocks Lakes valley stretches out across the surrounding terrain. There are no marked sites. Instead, campers spread out across a large open field, with a boat ramp and vault toilet nearby. The access road is long, and camping is free. Upper Lake Campground sits roughly seven miles southwest for those wanting a different setup, and there are additional places to camp near Beaverhead National Forest throughout the region.
