Wade Lake Campground — Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest

Kayakers and anglers find direct access to Wade Lake's clear blue waters at this Forest Service campground in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. The campground operates on a split reservation system where odd-numbered sites require advance booking through Recreation.gov while even-numbered sites remain first-come, first-serve. Sites accommodate RVs up to 30 feet and include picnic tables, fire rings, and grilling grates.

The lake draws families for day-long water activities, with a boat launch available for small watercraft. Megan notes the water "looks like the Caribbean in Montana" due to its distinctive turquoise color. Several sites offer direct beach access, though tent campers should expect some sloped terrain. The campground fills quickly during peak season, with reviewers recommending arrival before 2 PM to secure a spot.

A dirt road provides access from the main highway, and cell service disappears once you reach the lake level. Clean restrooms serve the campground, and a nearby resort offers additional services. The area connects to Cliff Lake Campground for those exploring multiple camping spots outside Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Wade Lake works well for campers who prioritize water access and don't mind rougher road conditions to reach this mountain lake setting.

Fun for the family

Beautiful lake - looks like the Caribbean in Montana! Somewhat close to West Yellowstone for those visiting national parks. Odd campsites required reservations (even if you show up and there’s one open for the night, the sign says you still have to go to recreation.gov and reserve it) and Even sites are first come first serve. Small campground and relatively small parking lot but we went on Monday July 5th and it wasn’t busy! Excellent spot to kayak or use a small boat but it’s all BYO, no rentals anywhere nearby that we saw. Mostly families enjoying a laid back lake day. Picnic tables first come first serve for day use.

Awesome

Crystal clear lake, good fishing, easy to get your boat in, group sites, day sites, and a rental shop what more can you ask for? A great spot have camped here many of times! Highly recommend!

Quiet and pretty

$10.00 to stay 2 nights I believe. Restrooms were clean. Fishing at Wade lake was ok, as well as Cliff Lake.

Wade & Cliff Lake

For some reason I couldn’t find Cliff Lake in the search, but they are both in the same area. Personally I preferred Cliff Lake but both Wade & Cliff are beautiful areas. Wade Lake is a bigger campground and the more popular of the two as far as tourism and people go. The sites at both are $15 a night which is a STEAL for how beautiful it is. On Wade Lake there is Kayaking and a Boat Launch available for guests. We decided to drive across to Cliff Lake, where there are much less sites available. We were lucky to drive in as one person was driving out of the best site there! There are picnic tables and fire pits at every site with a grill rack included in each one. There are perfect spots for tents, however the one we chose seemed to be a bit small for a 4 man tent and we slept on a slight decline all night. However, there is AMAZING beach access. We did have a couple people camping next to us that asked politely to walk through our site because we had the easiest access available. But they were quiet and didn’t bother us too much. The water is so beautiful and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to escape and relax.

Moose, pronghorns, birding and more

Wide open spaces and mountain views, lots of wildlife. Simple clean and small campground but lots to do in the area to enjoy the nature. There’s also a resort with fancy cabins very nearby---make sure you know which you want. Not too far from Yellowstone, in case you are desperate for a camp site.

Tropics in the Mountains

Turquoise waters and white sandy beaches – surrounded by mountains in the middle of Montana, this place has absolutely stunning scenery. Cliff and Wade Lakes are two medium sized lakes with multiple campground sites along both lakes. Camping fee is $10/night, bathrooms, a marina and store to rent kayaks/paddleboards, both single and group use sites. Cell service at the top of the mountain when driving in but no service down by the lakes. There are many campsites, but this a very popular destination and sites fill up quickly. I recommend getting there before 2pm to grab a site!

Beautiful and Off The Beaten Path

A bit of dirt road driving gets you off the main highway and to two of the most beautifully colored blue lakes I have seen! The campground itself is small and primitive, making for a very nice and relaxing experience.

Fiji in Montana

Wade lake is gorgeous!! Crystal clear waters and only a few camping spots so it's not over crowded. Bring a kayak or canoe and paddle around the amazing blue water!
