Benchmark Campground is located in the Lewis and Clark National Forest in Montana, nestled at the eastern edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. The campground sits at the boundary where forest service roads end and wilderness begins, making it a perfect gateway for wilderness adventures. It's situated in a scenic mountain setting, surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Rocky Mountain Front.

Benchmark Campground features 25 campsites that accommodate both regular campers and those with horses. The campground is specially designed with equestrian facilities including horse corrals and dedicated parking for horse trailers. Some sites are positioned adjacent to the trailhead for convenient wilderness access. Basic amenities are available, though the campground maintains a rustic, wilderness-oriented experience appropriate for its remote setting.

From Benchmark Trailhead, hikers and horseback riders can access trails leading into two wilderness areas - the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Scapegoat Wilderness. These trails offer extensive backcountry exploration opportunities through some of Montana's most pristine wilderness areas. The trailhead serves as a critical access point for multi-day wilderness trips, high mountain lakes, and remote backcountry experiences in the Rocky Mountain Front region.

Benchmark Campground is approximately 80-90 miles southwest of Great Falls, Montana. The journey typically takes about 2-2.5 hours by car, depending on road conditions. The route travels through the Lewis and Clark National Forest, with the last portions on forest service roads. Visitors should be prepared for mountain driving conditions and possibly unpaved sections on the final approach to the campground.
