Mature Douglas firs and ponderosa pines shade the sites at Glacier Campground, a privately run property just outside the west entrance to Glacier National Park. The forested layout gives the place a different character than the more exposed campgrounds inside the park itself, and campers consistently note that the tree cover creates a sense of separation between sites even where spacing is tight. It sits off the highway, which keeps road noise low, though a freight train line runs nearby and passes frequently enough that light sleepers should factor that in.
Sites run small. Reviewers with rigs over 30 feet report difficulty maneuvering, and several note that not all sites are level, so bringing extra leveling blocks is worth the effort. Electric and water hookups are available, along with sewer connections, a dump station, and WiFi at the front office. The on-site cafe operates through the summer season, and there is a general store, laundry, and multiple shower houses with hot water. Meghan D. sums up the value concisely: "For $30 bucks you get access to clean water, dishwashing stations, unlimited hot water showers."
Cell coverage varies by carrier. Verizon users report solid service while Sprint and AT&T users have had mixed results. Bears frequent the area, and at least one reviewer flagged overflowing garbage dumpsters as a wildlife concern during a peak-season stay, so keeping a clean site matters here. The campground does not allow generators, which reviewers mention as a meaningful factor in keeping noise manageable overnight.
The proximity to the park's west entrance makes early morning trailhead starts straightforward. For dog-friendly camping near Glacier National Park, this campground is a practical choice since dogs are permitted on site, including in the camper cabins, even though they are not allowed on trails within the park itself. Staff at the campground have pointed guests toward nearby National Forest trails where dogs are welcome. Nearby alternatives worth considering include West Glacier Log Cabin and Moose Creek RV Resort and Bed & Breakfast for campers weighing their options in the corridor.
The campground runs from mid-May through the end of September, with reservations available and recommended for summer weekends. Rates range from $45 to $120 depending on site type and hookup configuration. If you want a forested base with full amenities and a short drive to the park gates, this is a reliable place to land.
