Within Beaverhead National Forest, Cow Creek Dispersed Camping Area provides free camping on a large, flat grassy site positioned above the Ruby River. The elevated location at 6,428 feet sits directly off Forest Service Route 100, offering unobstructed views of surrounding mountains and the river valley below. Wind exposure helps reduce bug activity compared to sheltered areas.
The site features one large rock fire ring and ample space for multiple tents or a large group setup. Forest Service dispersed camping rules apply, limiting stays to 16 days maximum. No facilities exist onsite, so campers must bring water and pack out all waste. Cottonwood sits less than a mile southwest for those needing developed amenities.
