    Roosevelt State Park Campground

    Excellent state park!

We loved our stay. Beautiful park, nice campsites, heated and clean bathroom, best spots are on the lake. We stayed in spot 15 and it was beautiful.

A couple reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars, even though we loved it. First, we reserved a spot weeks prior and someone was in it when we arrived around 5pm. The park was very helpful and accommodating once we found the right phone number. I wish they would put signs on the reserved spots to avoid the hassle.

Second, they do not sell firewood here anymore, but there is a gas station across the street that does.

Also, the fire ring and the table/grill are on opposite sides on the parking spaces and there are no cooking grates on the fire ring unfortunately. But the grill was very clean!

But seriously, would recommend!!! Just want to help our fellow campers out with some details of the digs!

    Roosevelt State Park Campground

This is what a State Park should look like!

Smooth paved roads, level concrete pads, picnic tables that will seat 8, fire ring and grill at each site.. This park has been completely remodeled and they did a fantastic job. Pull thru's and back in's available.

We stopped on our return trip home for one night, so we did not check out the bathhouse/showers.

Rocky Springs Campground, Milepost 54.8 — Natchez Trace Parkway

Wonderful FREE Back to Nature Camping

Rocky springs campground is a great place to get back to nature while traveling the South end of the historical Natchez Trace. There is almost NO cell service regardless of carrier. No electric, drinking water, or showers however the first set of bathrooms are very clean and work well. The bathroom sink water is not potable...it had a yellow tinge... literally. Nice paved pull through and back in pads, fire rings (way too tall but hey?!?), grills and picnic tables are plentiful. The large shade trees made solar power minimal but it was worth the boon docking, old time camping experience. Very peaceful get away from it all area. We camped next to the bathroom in a 21' RV.

    Peaceful & beautiful!

Such a nice RV Park. We stayed in spot #1 and had a beautiful view of the lake, nice fire pit and picnic table. Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake. It was really clean and beautiful. Staff was super helpful and friendly. My only wish was that there was a playground for our kids but they said they have one ordered for this year. :). Can’t wait to stay again!

Rocky Springs Campground, Milepost 54.8 — Natchez Trace Parkway

    Perfect Overnight

This campground is the perfect overnight spot; there are some hiking trails & historic sites to visit but, otherwise, it’s just a good spot to pull off the parkway and recharge. There are probably 20-25 sites, most if not all ate large enough for RVs or pull-behind rigs. Above ground fire pits, BBQ grills and picnic tables at most sites, off of the paved parking area(s). The bathroom(s) aren’t great, but they work! 1 bar Verizon, not enough to load any GPS or internet but you can squeeze a message out.

Guide to Flowood

Cabins near Flowood, Mississippi provide accommodation options within several Mississippi State Parks and private campgrounds. The average cabin rental in this region ranges from $75-150 per night depending on size and amenities. During summer months, visitors should book cabin accommodations 2-3 months in advance due to limited availability, especially for waterfront units.

What to do

Disc golf course access: At Timberlake Campground in Brandon, visitors can enjoy the on-site disc golf course just minutes from their cabin. "This campground wasn't quite my style but we were in the area and needed to spend the night. Disc golf course was a huge plus since I love disc golf," notes one visitor.

Water activities: The 8-acre lake at Wendy Oaks RV Resort provides fishing opportunities without requiring a license. "Such a nice RV Park. We stayed in spot #1 and had a beautiful view of the lake, nice fire pit and picnic table. Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake," shares one camper. The resort offers free paddleboats, kayaks, and paddleboards for guests.

Historical exploration: Near Rocky Springs Campground, visitors can explore remnants of a ghost town. "We explored the old church and what's left of the city. There is a lot to do for such a small campground," reports one camper. The site includes walking trails with informational plaques about the area's history.

What campers like

Proximity to conveniences: Timberlake Campground provides cabins with access to urban amenities while maintaining a natural setting. "This campground is right on the reservoir, but immediately near any restaurant, grocery, event space you want," explains one reviewer. Another mentions, "If you need anything, there is a Kroger grocery store right across the street from the campground."

Family-friendly amenities: Families staying in cabins at Yogi on the Lake appreciate the extensive recreation options. "So much fun, so much to do! We stayed on the lakes edge, had visits from geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels. Beautiful and very clean area. Pool, slides, jumping pad, playground, mini golf, tennis, basketball, planned activities each day for family fun," reports one visitor.

Personal service: Cabins at smaller resorts often come with attentive staff assistance. "Melanie and the team at Wendy Oaks are amazing! We arrived after dark and they had a lantern waiting on the electrical box for us to use while setting up!" shares one reviewer. This personal touch extends to site selection and orientation for first-time visitors.

What you should know

Seasonal booking considerations: Cabins fill quickly during holiday weekends and summer. At Roosevelt State Park Campground, peak seasons require advance planning. "Nice park. Some spots are very narrow and drop off as soon as you leave the pad. Spots in the 'older' area seem more spaced out," advises one camper.

Facility maintenance varies: Some cabins may have maintenance issues. "Beautiful and spread out nicely. On the water makes for some great walks. Pull thrus and back ins are all spacious," notes one visitor about Timberlake, while another cautions, "Parts of it is very well cared for & maintained, but a large area needs serious attention."

Weather contingencies: Spring storms can affect cabin stays. "Had a night of rain and lightning when we stayed there! Camped on the hill passed the boat launch nice to hear the flowing water when the thunder died down," shares a DLo Water Park visitor. Many cabin rentals remain open year-round, offering heating and cooling for variable Mississippi weather.

Tips for camping with families

Water park access: Yogi on the Lake - Jellystone Pelahatchie features water recreation for children of all ages. "We spent a weekend in October here and absolutely loved it. The trick or treating is the best. Start right when you can because there are so many sites offering candy or haunted areas," explains one family. Their heated water park remains open during cooler months.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Cabins situated near water provide wildlife viewing for children. "We stayed on the lakes edge, had visits from geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels," notes one Yogi on the Lake visitor. These natural encounters create educational opportunities without requiring additional activities.

Seasonal programming: Many cabin resorts offer scheduled activities for families. "Planned activities each day for family fun," mentions one reviewer. During Halloween weekends, Yogi on the Lake offers special programming with "the spook trail is top tier! And there were plenty of activities throughout the day for the kids."

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: Movietown RV Park in Canton offers both RV sites and cabin rentals with consistent amenities. "For 30$ a night u get a level gravel drive thru spot electric, sewer, water, and wifi, laundry facilities and bath house very very clean," reports one visitor. Cabins at this location provide similar amenities with indoor sleeping arrangements.

Site selection considerations: When booking cabins or RV sites, location within the park matters. "Spacious lots so you arent right up on each other. Theres rental lots and cabins by the night, week and month," notes a Movietown visitor. Corner or end sites typically offer more privacy and space for outdoor gathering areas.

Late arrival protocols: Many cabin rental facilities accommodate after-hours check-in. "We got in late so we registered at the closed office door by putting our $27 payment in an envelope in the door slot. How convenient!" explains one Movietown RV Park visitor.
