Turkey Creek Water Park

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Fishing, water skiing, and lake access draw campers to Turkey Creek Water Park, a state-managed campground outside Decatur in east-central Mississippi. One important note for families: the name refers to a park centered on water recreation, not a commercial water park with slides or rides. Boats can be rented on site, which removes one logistical hurdle for campers who want to get out on the water without trailering their own.

Sites are wooded and set back enough to provide some separation from neighbors. Reviewers consistently describe the campground as small, with level, recently upgraded sites and lake views from some spots. The campground also has a newer equestrian area for those who want to bring horses for trail riding. Full hookups accommodate RVs up to 50 feet, and the facilities include hot showers and laundry. Cleanliness and friendly staff come up repeatedly across reviews spanning several years.

Because the park sits within reasonable distance of Jackson, it can draw crowds, particularly on weekends. Still, multiple reviewers note it feels uncrowded during their stays. Cindy S. describes it as a "quite and peaceful small campground with bathroom, hot showers and laundry available." Anglers report good fishing. Those looking at campgrounds near Turkey Creek Water Park will find options ranging from wildlife management area sites to RV-oriented stops. This campground works best for anglers, boaters, equestrian campers, and families who want full hookups alongside lake access.

On the Turkey Creek reservoir

By “water park” they mean “park with recreation activities on the water” not a man made park with slides and rides. This was devastating news for our friend’s young daughter! Enjoy fishing and especially water skiing with your own boat or a boat rented on site. There is mountain biking and hiking (all easy trails), a sandy beach, and just a nice relaxing atmosphere. The campgrounds are simple but modernized, moderate size, . They have a large building to rent for reunions.

Yay: great peaceful area with classic MS views. Wooded and private campsites.

Nay: costs a little more to access the lake (not bad, just a surprise). Not too far from Jackson so it felt a little crowded.

Surprise: we stayed here when the sites in the nearby National Forest were full and enjoyed it so much we added a day to our trip. That you can rent boats on site makes it so much easier!
