⛺️ Proud Lake Campground Quick Trip

Stayed here for the DGLO Disc Golf tournament. Had a great time. Clean campground, and activities to do. Everyone was friendly as well. We’re from the metro Detroit area so it was nice to have a quick trip 30 minutes away

Clean and plenty of trees

First time out with the camper and we wanted to stay close to home so we found a campground right outside the city. You couldn't tell how close we were because there were so many trees in the area. Looked like up north

While there are plenty of trees around the grounds and lake there are not too many trees between the camp sites so you do totally see your neighbor. Bathrooms were clean at all times. Showers available. I saw basketball and ladder ball. There is a big lake with a boat launch and swimming area. Pets are allowed (leashed) Fire pit and picnic table at camp site. It was a grass site and not paved, some definitely looked more even than others. I did see more activities but we did not check them out. We also didn't go hiking due to the air quality/Canadian fires.

We would go again for a quick get away!

Nice escape close to home

First, I'd like to say that I was born and raised in Northern Michigan. That's where I'm used to camping and hiking. I moved to the metro Detroit area a few years ago. I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical about camping in the metro area. Color me surprised! This place is pretty impressive!

Pro:

1- The bathrooms ARE nice. They have the standard stall restrooms AND they have family bathrooms that are a toilet, bench and shower area. They've clearly been remodeled lately. Every morning when I go, there's someone there cleaning.

2- They have vending machines at the bathroom area.

3- Campsites are spacious.

4- The hiking/biking trails are wonderful. I just hiked 8 miles and had a wonderful time. Only downside is that "loop 2" was infested with ticks. We had to turn back. Every other step we were picking them off of the dogs. Loop 1 was totally fine and a blast to explore.

5- If you forgot something, there are stores (Home Depot, Meijer, Walmart, REI) nearby.

Con:

1- I didn't come here for the beach but there's no beach-side camping. It looks like you have to walk down quite a few stairs to access the water. No biggie for me as I came here to hike, not swim. Great views of the lake though.

Quick and relaxing get away right out of the city

I had no clue what to expect when booking so close to a few major cities in Michigan. I love feeling secluded while camping and was nervous this would feel like parking lot camping. But, it was AMAZING. For a short drive, I got a huge campsite, a lake view, very clean bathrooms, well kept hiking trails, and easy access to kayaking docs. Not to mention I didn’t even have to pull out the bug spray. It was great.

Great small park!

Beautiful Michigan State Park Campground along the Huron River on Proud Lake.

There is a host site with activities and a lending library for books and some sporting equipment.

It has a boat launch and a canoe / kayak livery on site.

Bath house is newly built with amazing showers including large Family / Handicap showers.

Awesome trails

The trails available here are where I learned to mountain bike, they’re not the easiest but they are not so challenging that you won’t have fun.

Clean but crowded

This site was very nicely kept but felt a little like a sardine can. SO many RVs and children EVERYWHERE kind of ruined the relaxed calm one looks for when camping.

The site was nice, a little rocky so hard to pitch a tent, and theres a severe hill from the back part of the loop towards the lake - at one point I was worried an improperly locked down camper would roll straight through our tents!

Views of the water from almost everywhere on the north end of the loop, and the bathrooms are BEAUTIFUL. They must have been recently renovated because they are spacious, tiled, well maintained, and very modern feeling for a campground.

Small but efficient.

I really like this campground for a quick get away when I don't have the time to make it up north. It's a little bit smaller than others but the sites are plenty big enough. The bathroom facilities are always nice and clean. It's right by a river you can paddle, float or swiw in. There are also a few trails to hike.

Waterfront camping

This was my first trip, which I did in a teardrop style micro camper. Had to back in the RV as the site was not pull-through. I didn’t use all amenities but there was a modern bathroom facility with showers. kayaking, hiking, electric hookup with 50, 30, and 110, and most importantly, while the campground feels like you are remote, if you need supplies, there is a small shopping center about a mile away. I loved being able to look out my window to the waterfront. Was slightly concerned however by the electrical towers nearby.

Close to Home

When I need a weekend get away but don't want to drive to far this here is the spot! The facilities are kept up quite well and the campgrounds are secluded enough. As for the trails, that's what I love the most. Many types of grounds within a short hike. Tall pines, lakes, creeks. Even a nice canoe/kayak rentals. Even if you're not looking to overnight it at least go for a nice hike!

Great place

When I think of camping, I think of heading "up north", but I am so glad that we decided to head south and meet some family members half way. This campground has the feel of "up north" as it is wooded and tucked away in an oasis of water, greens, and wildlife galore. The bathhouse is new and very nice. There are a few sites on an incline and that made it hard to get in and out of our fifth wheel. I would visit this campground again.
