    Fairview-Riverside State Park

    One of the better ones

It’s got everything you need in a beautiful setting.

Tent camped. Some of the tents back up to the woods for privacy and others are more in the middle and closer to the bathroom.

    Central Bathhouse:

3 bathrooms each side (males/females) each with a shower

Laundry room with 2 washers & dryers.

    Pop machine

Tent Site: Picnic table, fire ring, charcoal grill

Water spigot for all to share

Went to another park close by and only stayed a night before coming back here ⛺️❤️

    Tickfaw State Park Campground

True Louisiana atmosphere, fun for every age!

Every time we visit this park (which is a lot) we are able to have a new and fun adventure!

When my children were very young. This was one of the first places in the area to have a splash park for my children to run and play while staying cool in the south Louisiana heat.

Move up a few years, Tickfaw has provided myself and children with hours of fun, safe and informative hikes along the well maintained boardwalks through South Louisiana swamps.

As my children have grown we have still been able to explore the park further by utilizing the campgrounds! The tent camping section has defined/ private tent sites with picnic tables, and parking next to each site. The Rv park also boost a fun and family atmosphere, with fishing ponds, bike riding, canoeing, and primitive hiking. All with clean and air conditioned restroom facilities easily accessible to all sites.

    White’s Bayou RV Park

Absolutely the most charming hidden gem on the Gulf Coast. On the water with access to the Gulf, Pearl River and wildlife refuges.

Friendly, kind and helpful owners offer a kid’s playground, swimming pool and large RV campsites. Full hookups at most sites. Tent camping accommodated as well.

    New Orleans West KOA

    NOLA

As stated in other reviews this KOA is close to town and very convenient. But it's noisy. Traffic, trains, airplanes and construction noise, you've got it all here. Bring earplugs if your tent camping. The staff is super friendly though and the amenities are very nice.

    Beach camping

Great beach tent camping. Fantastic facilities including FREE laundry. Great crabbing! Just trow a chicken neck on a string and just pull them in. Unfortunately, we had a major storm on our first 2 days but we had a blast. The locals are awesome!

    Great campground

Just completed our first non-tent camping experience with our new camper. Fontainebleau was the perfect spot. Easy to navigate, lots of really good campsites, clean, air-conditioned restrooms. Tons of wildlife and a great splash park for the kids. Nice nature trails. Can’t wait to go back.

    Inexpensive Small Adequate

Small campground with spots right on top of each other.

Says free internet but service at site was nonexistent.

No electric or water at site.

3 men and 3 women bathroom/shower combo rooms that are clean. Only issue is when park is full the wait for the toilets can be long because of showers.

Laundry room (coin operated) available for use.

Little gated entrance with park attendants who take payments for sites. Code for gate given for after hours

RVs located mainly in center. Tent sites behind kid’s playground. Pretty long walk.

Lots of trees gone from last hurricane. Still repairing things.

Our tent site was located on the outer side right next to swamp. It included a picnic table, fire ring, a post with site number where you place your card and you can park on the grass next to your site.

Free to cross causeway into Madisonville but $5 to return to NOLA

Must stop in Cafe Du Monde for beignets!

    Very friendly people ❤️⛺️

    Tickfaw State Park Campground

    Cool swampy place

I stayed on a solo trip overnight on the way to somewhere else, the loop of tent sites were all wet except one (wish I remembered sorry) it was super loud at night with swamp things. Rangers were super nice! Biked around a bit and went on all the walking trails, I’d suggest having shoes that can get trashed. It was quite muddy!

    Bayside

Bayside is more known by locals. they have a small boat launch, dock, bait shop, and RV spots. not really a tent camping place. As it is not widely used for camping I give it 5 stars. It’s not anything special but gives you access by boat to the Diversion Canal and Amite River. They have a lot to offer in their little shop and the owners will include you like family. The boat launch is paid for use by honor system in a box. Nearby: grocery store, gas station, Freds bar, Popeyes, and other small places.

    Tickfaw State Park Campground

    My family go to park

This park is VERY family friendly.

Camping - There are 2 loops - 1-primative tent only camping, 1-RV/tent camping. There is a nice bathhouse in a central location to both loops. There is a bit of privacy between tent spots because of the trees. My favorite spots are 47,49,50. I have had a few of my reservations cancelled by the park when the river is high because the camping areas will flood.

Park - there are few different hiking trails - check Tickfaw River levels (or call park) because when the river is high, 1 or 2 of the trails could be under water. There is a ADA boardwalk trail that is very nice (especially for the kiddos) with a covered picnic area. The park offers a nature center that is really nice and they have animal demonstrations where you are able to really learn about Louisiana wildlife and touch the animals as well. This park is a great place to bring bikes as well. During the summer months, there is a splash pad that kids really enjoy. This is also a great park to rent canoes (or bring your own) for a day out on the waterways.

    Fontainebleau State Park Campground

Great Campground With Many Activities On Site and Surrounding Areas

My understanding is that this campground is currently closed due to the impacts of Hurricane Ida and efforts are being made to get it opened back up soon.

We tent camped on an rv site (May 2020) and set up our tent on natural ground beyond the asphalt pad.  The other campers in our area were quiet and kept to their campsites.  We enjoyed a bike ride on the Saint Tammany Trace and then made a short drive to Abita Springs for lunch.  There was high water at the time we went, so the beach area was shut down for recreation.  We did manage to get out to the pier on Sunday for a scenic view of the lake.

We plan to return to the park soon and bring our kayaks.  There seems to be lots of good paddling opportunities around the park.

    Grand Isle State Park Campground

    Really Nice Park

This state park is located at the very tip of the Island. It is a beautiful spot that allows you to camp directly on the beach with tents and a stones throw from the beach in an RV. There are about a dozen tent sites and probably 30 RV pull through spots with water and electric hookups. The shower and bathroom are air conditioned and are very well maintained and there is even a dish washing station right outside the wash center. It is $18 a night to camp with a tent and I believe it’s $30 for a pull through spot (in the off season). Only downside to this park is that the gates close at 10 PM and if you’re not already registered to camp (with the key code for the gate) you won’t be able to camp here if you are arriving late and there are no other camp sites for tents on the island. So show up early and enjoy!

    Fontainebleau State Park Campground

    cool place

This is a really nice state park and campground. It's located right on Lake Pontchartrain, which is really beautiful and nice for swimming, fishing, canoeing. They have some really nice tent sites, nice bathrooms, pavilions, picnic tables. There are also cabins that you can rent if you want. The beaches are cool, there are some nice hiking and biking trails.

Of course, being right near New Orleans, there is plenty to do. Taking a boat tour through some of the swamps is really cool. Plus, you get to find out a little about the history of the city. Taking a bike tour around the city is really cool as well. I learned so much about the history of New Orleans when I did it! Just a really awesome city full of culture and weirdly awesome stuff.

    Grand Isle State Park Campground

    RV park and beach camping

Good spot for fishermen and birding, but the sites are not private at all. The electric sites are $30 a night and it’s an RV park with manicured lawns covered in tiny mammal poops and lawn trimmings and 1-2 palm trees per site. You get electric and water, but the water tastes very chlorinated. There’s at least 2 dishwashing stations. Great access to the beach, lots of shorebirds and skimmers, spectacular sunrise and sunset. The bathrooms are nice too, but far from the electric sites so it’s a hike or a bike ride to use them. Showers are hot and clean. The tent sites feel more private since it feels more nature-y on the beach and less like a neighborhood, and they each have a fire ring and picnic table. Mosquitos are a given for the region, as is heavy morning dew in January. Some great casual southern dining options nearby.

"A quaint drinking town with a fishing problem"

So many ways to break this down

    1. The campgrounds. RV and tent camping sites are all pull through. Not big spots, no privacy or shade ... location, location, location. They all have fire pits, water and elect. Some have separate grills. The Tent only sites are on the beach. You have to carry your gear, no driving on the beach. Pick a site closer to the bath houses - there are 2. Big bath houses, plenty of showers.

    2. The Park. There are 2 piers for saltwater fishing as well as a dock for inlet fishing. There are other small marshy areas to fish depending on the tide.

    3. The town. Grand Isle is all about being at the end of the world and fishing. Be prepared to see cars parked along the side of the road and people fishing from any spot there is water. There is water everywhere.

We were not prepared to do serious fishing on this trip but still had a blast. We played with crabs in the inlet, put our feet in the Gulf, watched shrimp boats. There is a hiking trail, but at high tide it is flooded so you can't access it.

No matter the time of year or the wind speed - BUG SPRAY IS A NECESSITY!

Pearl River WMA - Crawford Landing

    Simple & free

This campground is a small open field by a road and river. There were some other rvs and tents even I arrived. I felt safe & it was quiet. No bathrooms or water available. You must have a (free) permit on Louisiana’s app LDWF WMA & sign in & out. I def recommend & I’ll be coming back if I need to camp out near NOLA!!

    Tickfaw State Park Campground

    Great little park

Tickfaw State Park is a Louisiana State Park located just outside of Springfield, LA.  The park is not very large, but big enough not to constantly run into people.  On this visit, we took our Christmas pictures along the “Cypress Gum Trial” - a boardwalk walk trail located across the street from the campsites and around the playground(s).  There is a nice covered area with picnic tables.  There are 2 camping loops - (1) for tents and (1) for RV’s.  Our site, #37 on the tent loop, we had enough space as well as privacy.  We went the weekend after Thanksgiving and the park was not overcrowded and the weather was perfect.  I did find the boardwalk trail was VERY slippery covered in wet leaves.

Highly recommended, but busy on weekends.

Went for a few nights solo camping (with my dog) in late January, so we had the tent area to ourselves until Friday afternoon. Really impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds, but some of the fire pits and grills could use some work. Great variety of campsite layouts, as well as a couple of wheelchair friendly ones. Facilities were clean and plentiful. Several miles of trails showcasing the beauty of southern Louisiana. Will definitely be going back.

    2 loops

Nice little Louisiana SP campground. There are 2 loops here, we stayed in the loop close to the office. If we went back we would try to stay in loop closer to the river. Like many of the Louisiana SP campgrounds there was a laundry room which was nice. There is a short board walk trail and a boat ramp with slips for boats. You are close to many conveniences of town. I would not recommend site 5, it was odd as the neighboring sites picnic table was directly behind our camper. Verizon service was good. Probably wouldn't stay again.

    Beautiful but soggy

We went on a weekend after it had rained all week. There wasn’t a dry spot to be found. The bathrooms were cleaned every morning. Sites were pretty close together, but the campground was clean. I would like to see it in summer when it is drier. They offer a discount for the Access Pass holders, but only if you are a Louisiana resident. They don’t detail that on the website.

Very nice, but lots of bugs

This site was quite nice.  Loved the beach area and the picnic areas, and the live oaks are to die for.  There are also historical relics there and an museum which were very very nice.

Only downfall we could see was the sheer amount of bugs.  We brought a bug zapper, thank god, and that thing was COVERED by the time we left.  I guess that would just be typical for south louisiana!

    Unique Area of Louisiana

This park is way south in Louisiana. It was a super interesting area to explore. We had some of the best fried chicken we have ever had from a gas station! The beach view isn’t the greatest with oil rigs dotting the horizon, but it is such an interesting area and we are so glad we checked it out! The campground was nice and it also had free laundry which is a huge plus!
