    Paintsville Lake State Park Campground

Nice lake, rec area and campground all nestled together

Spent the night here passing through. I did make a reservation just in case but there were a couple sites open. Nice, small campground, most sites are back in but there are a few pull through sites. The staff were friendly and the campground seems maintained fairly well. No wifi and Verizon is touchy. Out in the recreation area I had one bar and LTE though the data seemed pretty good. My site was right at the beginning of the campground. Inside my camper I could only get a signal if I put my phone in the window. The signal was good enough to stream and FaceTime but if I took it out of the window I’d lose signal.

The sites are nice and not on top of each other. They are a nice finer type gravel and mostly level. Big patio area with a picnic table and fire pit. Some of the sites at the front will give you a decent view of the lake, site 18 being the best I believe, I was in site 20.

It’s open year round according to the website. Not sure how big rig friendly it is and I couldn’t find any information on the website, I’d call first. I don’t recall seeing any 5th wheel or motor homes back there.

Overall, very nice campground and I would visit again. There is an 1850’s mountain house in the park just prior to the entrance to the campground/recreation area. There is a fee and you’ll have to check the hours. I forgot to take a picture but the song on the gift shop door said certain days by appointment only and I think Friday thru Sunday they were open for a period of time.

    Wildcat Camping and Fishing

    Very Nice Place

We have been here for a little over a month now. Nice level gravel sites with grass around them. Full hookups 30/50A at each site. Wifi. Could accommodate at least 40+ foot 5th wheels. There is a paylake with small shelter areas, playground, horseshoe pit, game room, community gathering area, store with snacks, drinks, tackle and other items. There are restrooms, but no showers or laundry. Beautiful area. About 11 miles to Paintsville, which has all the stores you'd need. Some closer convenience stores. Johnny and Regina, the owners, couldn't be any nicer. Very good monthly rates. Can receive mail and packages.

Middle Fork Campground — Natural Bridge State Resort Park

Middle Fork - Natural Bridge SP

Just got back from a quick spring break trip to the Red River Gorge. We booked our site in Middle Fork back in January. We had site B024, pull through. Clean campground, nice staff. It is narrow getting down to the site and you can easily miss it as you take the curves of Rt11/Natural Bridge Rd. We have a 37' trailer that took the entire length of the pad. If you pull through with nose facing the river, ALL utilities are on the driver's side/left. 20-30-50 amp plus water hookup. Bring your H20 filter as the 💧 is slightly brown. Pad is asphalt, table and fire ring on small gravel. Bath house has 2 shower stalls, 3 commode, 2 sinks (guys side). There is NO internet/wifi as the the supply line to the campground was cut/damaged 2+ yrs ago. Also, you are in a valley. If wx is clear you might get 2 bars/4G service. My teenagers survived. All the amenities for the park are a short drive or an easy walk. Had a great experience all around. Check out the Gorge Underground and take the SkyLift for an easy climb to Natural Bridge.

    Buckhorn Dam Campground

Great Family Camground in the Mountains of E. KY

This has ranked #1 for campgrounds for our family this season.

Nestled in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, this campground has all the things your family could want to do in nature.

Check in was super easy and the staff was great.

The site was very easy to get to.

We were on site 13 and it was nearly perfectly level from left to right. It had both 30 and 50 amp hookups and water (about 35psi on pressure). Each site has a charcoal grill, a fire pit with a grate for cooking and a large picnic table.

Our site backed up to the creek and a nice little levee for fishing. You could also go up back the park and fish right at the spillway from Buckhorn Lake Dam. Really fun experience.

Hands down the best playground for kids we have seen in a campground.

They had a large bathhouse with super clean bathrooms. Unsure about showers as I use the one in my TT.

There were horseshoe pits in two locations in the campsite. Several locations to dispose of trash. They also provided trash bags upon arrival.

Laundry facilities onsite and firewood you could purchase.

The dump station was clean and easily accessible with a hose for flushing.

Erica and her husband are the hosts and were so friendly and helpful. We were there over Mother’s Day weekend and they provided coffee juice and doughnuts for Mother’s Day.

A ton of kiddos for kids to play with and a great area for their bikes, etc.

We 100% will be back to this campground this season.

    The Ole Cornfield

Great place to unwind and enjoy the river.

The campground is brand new and it has new bath/shower houses.  It has 10 RV sites and riverside tent sites.  The sites are level and pull through with 50 amp service.  There is city water available and a dump station.  Very clean place and the staff are great to work with.  They have kayaking at the campground or shuttle service if you bring your own kayak.  The ride from the dam down to the campground is beautiful and serene.  It is great for beginning kayakers.  The tent sites along the river are so peaceful with the river running below you.  There is a lot to do in the area with Cave Run Lake for water adventures and Lockegee Rock and the Sheltowee Trail for hiking.  The Licking River has several fish species from the fun to catch bluegill to the Muskellunge.  This is a must see place that I will definitely return to.

    Jenny Wiley State Park Campground

Needs to be updated and repaired

Roads in campground are rough in places. Electrical boxes are in rough shape at some sites. 30 amp kept tripping the breaker. WiFi does not work. Several sites have full hookup but sewer hookups need to be repaired and water hookups are far away.

    Twin Knobs Recreation Area

    Twin Knobs

This drive in camp site is a pay only and it’s best to call a couple weeks before your trip to reserve you spot! You can tent camp, pop up, or set up your pull behind. Twin Knobs is very clean and spacious campsites and most are on the water! This campground has basketball courts, a beach area, restrooms and more. Pet friendly but must stay on a leash.

Oh! Kentucky RV Park & Campground

    Great campsite

Great campground in Berea KY. Easy to get to, just off I75 at route 21. The sites were spacious and well cared for, and all are pull through. Picnic table and fire pit at each site. Some sites were shaded by trees, others were open. All sites had water, power and sewer. Onsite propane and small store. Pool was not yet opened but looked nice.

Berea is a great town to explore and go hiking. Restaurants and shopping were good. The area is known for the craftsmanship and there are plenty of hand-made things to buy.

Will need a car since the town is on the other side of the highway.

Will definitely return. AND - they are open all year!!

Guide to Pine Ridge

Pine Ridge, Kentucky sits at 978 feet elevation in the Daniel Boone National Forest region, an area known for its sandstone cliffs and forested valleys. The camping season extends from March through November, with fall bringing vibrant foliage and larger crowds. Winter camping options are limited but available at select year-round facilities.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The Ole Cornfield campground offers direct access to the Licking River where "the grandkids love to play in the river, which is about 1 to 2 feet deep at this location. Great for wading and catching minnows, crawdads, and such," according to Karen P.

Hiking natural formations: Middle Fork Campground provides access to the unique geological features of Natural Bridge State Park. "The natural bridge area is a must see. Its super unique for the area and worth the hike to it," notes Daniel S.

Kayaking adventures: The Ole Cornfield offers kayak rentals and shuttle service. "They shuttle you up to the dam and it takes a couple of hours to get back down to their campground. Justin pulls your kayaks out and takes them up the hill for you," shares a reviewer.

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds feature water access for cooling off. Callie's Lake and Campground has "a small lake (I'd call it a pond) for swimming and fishing" that costs "$5 for an adult to fish, and catch and release only," according to David C.

What campers like

Private waterfront sites: Nocomas Pass receives praise for its riverside location where campers enjoy "a beautiful stay next to the creek" as mentioned by Christine G. The campground features "secluded, spacious sites full of remnants from the old oil wells."

Clean facilities: Reviewers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms at campgrounds near Pine Ridge. At The Ole Cornfield, Karen notes the "bath/shower house is really clean and with heat/air."

What you should know

Cell service and WiFi: Connectivity varies widely across rv camping options near Pine Ridge, Kentucky. At Callie's Lake, one camper reported, "We have Verizon and had 3 bars of LTE, but sometimes struggled to load rich content. As a remote worker I purchased 72 hours of WiFi for $20."

Site levelness: Some campers report challenges with uneven sites. At one campground, a reviewer spent "over an hour" trying to level their RV on "a very unlevel lot."

Seasonal crowds: Outpost Campground & RV Park can get busy during peak seasons. One visitor noted it was "very full this weekend" but still found it "very clean and well laid out."

Reservation needs: Many campgrounds require advance booking, especially during fall. According to Anne D., 4 Guys RV Park is a "commercial campground, so sites are close without trees to separate."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water play: The shallow waters at The Ole Cornfield are perfect for children. "The grandkids love to play in the river, which is about 1 to 2 feet deep at this location. Great for wading and catching minnows, crawdads, and such."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Sheltowee RV Park & Cabins, Brad L. notes the "sites are a little tight but overall very nice and kept up to date." This matters when positioning larger rigs.

Hookup quality: RVers should verify utility details when booking. The Ole Cornfield provides "water and electric at each site," according to reviewers, with level sites for easier setup.

Accessibility: For big rigs, Outpost Campground offers well-maintained sites. "The pull through sites were all flat and oriented well. We were fully set up in 15 mins," reports Jason G.

Seasonal considerations: Many rv sites near Pine Ridge remain open year-round, including Outpost Campground & RV Park in Salt Lick. However, some limit services during winter months, so call ahead to confirm availability.
