Fishing, swimming, and a rope swing over a small lake give Callie's Lake and Campground its central draw, with the lake serving as the social hub of this privately run property outside Stanton in Powell County, Kentucky. Anglers pay $5 per adult to fish, and the lake is catch-and-release only. Kids gravitate toward the rope swing, and the water is open for swimming as well. The campground sits close enough to the Red River Gorge corridor that hikers regularly use it as a base, with nearby options like Furnace Mountain and Bowen Farm Bed and Breakfast rounding out the area's range of lodging styles.
The layout divides into two distinct zones. Full hookup RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections sit up front, and several reviewers note these spots are largely occupied by long-term campers. The back section holds more primitive tent sites, many of them tree-lined and reasonably private, though spacing between sites is close enough that peak weekends can feel crowded. Greg M. describes the owner and staff as "incredible hosts," and multiple visitors mention Callie herself helping new campers get oriented on arrival.
The on-site store stocks camping supplies and live bait, but the food draws consistent attention. Jess S. calls it "a quaint lake, good store, and wonderful pizza." Saturday nights sometimes include karaoke. Verizon users report around three bars of LTE, though streaming can be slow. Paid WiFi is available for $20 per 72-hour period, limited to one device.
Road access to the back sites warrants attention. Some spots require navigating a narrow road, and at least one reviewer noted helping push a sedan out of a rut. A high-clearance or all-wheel-drive vehicle handles the back section more reliably than a standard car. Sites closer to the lake fill first on weekends, and early March visits can mean having the water-and-electric section nearly to yourself before Friday arrivals. Reservations are available, and pets are welcome. Rates run $10 to $40 per night, with RV sites accommodating rigs up to 65 feet. This campground works well for families and RV travelers who want hookups, a fishing lake, and quick access to Red River Gorge trails without committing to a larger park.
