NOT happy,

Made reservations almost a month in advance, arrived on given day and could not level our RV on a very unlevel lot couldnt even get our steps to come out as they hit gravel. Tried to move the RV around for over an hour and finally went to the store to inform them of our trouble. We were told they had no other space for us, so we had no choice but to leave. This was NOT our choice, they did not deliver what they had promised, yet no refund, or even a partial refund was offered. 3 years being full time on the road, this was a first such experience, and their lack of concern made us not happy.

.UPDATE Callie and I have talked and our issues have been resolved. We visited Callies Lake& Campground, no overnight stay

Simple and Well Done

Our first outing in our pop up. Camped in early March and Thursday we were the only ones at the water+electric sites, but many more came in on Friday.

Straightforward facilities but well done with the bath house, roads, signage, and hookups. A quaint lake, good store, and wonderful pizza!

We have Verizon and had 3 bars of LTE, but sometimes struggled to load rich content. As a remote worker I purchased 72 hours of WiFi for $20, which was great but only worked for 1 device.

It’s not like some parks that is basically a parking lot, but I imagine it would feel crowded in peak season. We’d definitely come back and would aim for the lakeside spots.

First time camping and we loved it!

My children and I camped for the first time and were so happy we picked this place. The owner is so lovely, and the camp shop is bomb! Best pizza ever! I will return again!

Toaster slots right next to each other.

The site was so small at site 7. We have a pop up camper. They asked if we could fit our pop up camper in the site. I said yes. Thats all that mattered if our camper could fit in the toaster slot. We paid 165 for 3 nights and stayed somewhere else because it was such a bad site. Ps. I'm not picky. Save your money.

Quiet, spacious, close to hiking

Stayed here two consecutive weekends, electric site only in the back (field - back in spaces). Was a little tight making our way to the back on the small road, but take it slow you’re ok.
Was quiet and all to ourselves first weekend, second was a Jeep invasion with many tents all in the sites. Great people, helpful and nice. Karaoke on Saturday nights (mostly kids). All the spaces up front full hookup are permanent campers. Close to all RRG hiking and dining, etc. would stay here again!

Great versatile campground

RV park in the front, more primitive tent camping in the back. There is a pond/lake just big enough to fish and swim in, and there’s a rope swing the kids loved. This place has pretty good food made on site and had karaoke on Saturday nite with a good crowd. The spots were good, if not a bit close together. We didn’t have a picnic table but we brought a table so it wasn’t a big deal for us. Also I think they would get you one if you didn’t have one. Staff was great. Fire pit was Flinstone style: just a ring of rocks. But it got the job done. Very close to Slade and Stanton.

Impressive

We were very pleased with this campground. When we first checked in, the smell of the food in the campground store was to die for. We had plans to cook at our campsite, but the specials that night were very tempting. The staff was kind and helpful, and provided us with a map of the property. The bathhouse was a nice touch! There are many campsites of multiple types available, but there are several primitive sites that still feel secluded and surrounded by trees. There are several sites that can be accessed by a sedan, but some of the sites farther back really require something more suited to off-road driving. We were in a Subaru Forester and had no issues, but did actually have to help push a Camry out of a rut. We visited in October 2021 and it seemed like the area we selected was still slightly under construction. The campsite was wonderful, but the picnic table was sitting on a slope and we were having a difficult time preventing our food from falling off. A flatter spot for the picnic table would be our only suggestion to the owner. My friend used a tent and was happy to see a flat spot cut out of the slope our site was situated on. I used a hammock and didn’t have any trouble finding suitable trees. We loved it and will definitely be back!

Not Dispersed / Lenient Staff

Awesome place with basketball hoops, playgrounds, lake for fishing, kayaking and even hookups for campers. They have a fully-stocked camp store and even have fun themes such as karaoke night! Not to mention it is right outside of DBBB. An issue I had was it does not have dispersed camping (free), only primitive (tent) so the filters on this app were wrong. The biggest issue was there was no quiet hours so groups are singing along and howling up into the early morning (4am) without the staff intervening.

A Must Visit in the Red

This was our very first camping experience as a family in the Red River Gorge.

I can't say enough how accommodating and helpful Callie and her team were during our visit. The shop was well stocked, the cafe food was clutch, and the site and campground is beautiful.

We had just purchased a used popup camper and booked a site at Callie's based on a friend's recommendation. We arrived and had no clue what to do. So Callie (yes, Callie of Callie's Campground) talked us through how it all works. We were hooked up and had the a/c on (we camped in July) in no time.

We did however learn that our camper had some plumbing issues and was leaking pretty badly while hooked up to the water connection. I brought this up to Callie later in the afternoon and she gave me the name of a local person who works on campers (who ended up being absolutely salt-of-the-earth awesome and helped our camper be good as new).

We tried our hand at fishing but I think it was too hot for the fish to bite. The campground is easy to hike and beautiful. Did I mention we brought our two golden retrievers? Yeah, that was interesting but we learned a lot and overall I'd say they did well. However we have since decided that while we go camping the dogs would greater benefit from staying with a sitter:)

Again, this is a must-stay place when visiting the Gorge. And you can blame me for loving it;)

Cheers,

Chris

Nice Campground Near the Red River Gorge

This was a nice campground near the red river gorge. My friends and I stayed at a primitive campsite # 10. I’m not sure if the numbers really mattered because I didn’t see any clear listing of numbers and they told me when I arrived if I can’t find a spot with a fire ring then to text them and they would come out and build one where I was camping. But my spot had a rock fire ring, a picnic table, a small charcoal grill, and a lamp post. We were some what close to other campsites but our site had enough trees surrounding it to make it fairly private. This is a great family campground, they had small lake (I’d call it a pond) for swimming and fishing (it was $5 for an adult to fish, and catch and release only.) There was a play ground for the kids. They had a small store with camping supplies and they served food. Staff seemed to be pretty friendly as well. It looks like before Covid they would have fire works and live bands.

Best Kept Secret in the Gorge!

Been to a bunch of campgrounds and this is by far our favorite! The staff are more than helpful, so nice and welcoming. We have been two times now and plan on going back soon.

They have a general store stocked with necessities you may have forgotten. The store also sales live bait to fish in the lake with. The best part about the store is the food!!!

If you are looking for a laid back camping experience this is the place for you!
