Mined Land Wildlife Area in Kansas features flat terrain with scattered bodies of water. Temperatures range from lows of 20°F in winter to highs of 90°F in summer. Visitors can explore the nearby Crawford State Park and the Kansas Crossing Casino for recreational activities.

Mined Land Wildlife Area

Two deluxe cabins overlook the trout lake at Mined Land Wildlife Area. Coal Ridge and Mine 19 cabins offer one bedroom with a full-size bed and a futon. A bathroom offers a large walk-in shower. A large front room has a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, and basic kitchen tools. Also included are a toaster, coffee maker, and filters. You will find additional sleeping accommodations in the front room with a twin-size murphy bed and a futon. Each cabin is air conditioned and heated. A picnic area outside offers a fire ring, barbecue grill, and picnic table. A large front porch will beckon you to sit a spell. Located northwest of Columbus, Kansas , the area offers tranquility of the outdoors and great year-round trout fishing opportunities. These cabins are ADA accessible and are open all year. Vehicle permits are not required for the Mined Lands Wildlife Area.

The cabins are situated inside more than 14,000 acres of public land open to hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The cabins will accommodate up to six people. Big Brutus, the 12 million pound electric coal shovel, remains on the Mined Lands Wildlife Area as a reminder of the unique history of this area and is a neat touring opportunity. The cities of Columbus, Pittsburg, Oswego and Parsons are all within 30 minutes of the cabins.

You must be 18 or older to rent a cabin or campsite.
A non-refundable reservation fee is charged for each transaction. Reservations must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival. No tent, trailer, or RV camping is allowed at the cabin site. All dishes should be clean and put away. A trash dumpster is located near the west entrance to the lake. Trash should be taken to the dumpster before checking out. Staff will inspect the cabin after you leave and additional charges may be applied for cleaning, missing items, or damages. No pets or smoking are allowed in the cabins.
