I learned of this place through the Dyrt (thank you!) and knew I wanted to stay here! There are several options available: tent camping (including a tree tent!), RV camping (two with electric hookups), and a 170-year-old log cabin. If you are RV camping, there are two very clean, private, and fully stocked "outhouses" (see photo below)
We originally planned to camp in our van but with below-freezing temperatures and a forecasted snowstorm, we decided to take refuge in the log cabin. To call this a log cabin is a disservice; yes, it is made from logs(and is 170 years old) but I was expecting a tiny one-room cabin; instead it is a two-story cozy home that can sleep up to six people, all in one upstairs room (two full-size beds and two twin beds; would be great for families). It was cozy and warm, heated by a gas stove. The bathroom (with a shower) is accessed from just outside the back door but is heated. The kitchen is an outdoor grill and picnic table, but we did not use this.
Tim and Beth were very welcoming, as was Juno, their dog. We enjoyed helping to feed the Alpacas– they have over 50. The rooster crowed gustily at dawn (but dawn was after 7 am and we were already awake). Also on the farm is Stormy, the horse, chickens, and some barn cats. There is a shop that sells goods made from Alpaca wool and we made sure to visit before departing.
Staying here was truly special and we hope to return to camp in one of the RV spots or the tree tent in the future.

We had so much fun. We stayed in the cabins for a couple days. There is always so much to do, one day hiking the next we were shopping. It's located right off 46 and just a few mins from downtown. Explore Brown County is also just a few mins away where you can paintball, ziplines, and ride ATVs on the trails. The cabins were nice and clean, and equipped with a little fridge and microwave. We will definitely be staying again.

We love this campground so much that we return every year! Great riverside sites. We take our own rafts and kayaks, although both are available for rent/purchase at the camp store. Our boys & friends spend most of their time in the river, but also enjoy the quarry lake with inflatables & paddle boats. The campground also has fabulous cabins at a reasonable price. Our friends without campers join us in the cabins. All together there were 50+ in our party this year & a good time was had by all!

TravelerThis KOA served as " home" for my husband and I for 3 weeks while moving. The family that runs the campground is wonderful and extremely helpful. The little restaurant has great food at good prices, and many ice cream flavors for those hot summer day's! Great pool and a place to let your dog run! The cabin we stayed in had so much privacy and was adorable! We love this KOA and can't wait to go back!

We were looking for a quite night away and, without doing any research, booked a tent site close to the pond here. Upon arriving, laughter ensued, when we heard the music and saw the zip lines and paint ball facilities.
We still had a fun night as the bulk of the visitors seemed to be a very large group staying in two cabins. The tent area is on the opposite side of the grounds, by the pond so no matter how many people are in the cabins/paintballing you can't see them or hear them.
The folks working in the registration building were AMAZING. Facilities were clean and worked as they should. Firewood is super dry/stored in a shed.
This would be a rad place to take your kids/teens or if you're into more of a festival camping atmosphere (sites are spaced out though, you're not on top of each other) this would be the perfect place.
If you are looking to be away from people walking to their sites/the pond/trails and you want quiet... this is not the place, from my experience.
I'd probably take my nieces and nephews here for the first camping experience though!

It's near Nashville, IN's quaint shops, music venues, Stoney Lonesome, Gnaw Bone, and, of course, beautiful Brown County State Park.
(Four stars because we stayed there during a wedding and the music and traffic from the wedding was a bit intrusive; also, because when we arrived at our campsite we had to ask management to remove a squatter, so the site was not clean).
GuideI have been going here since I was a kid and very little has changed since. That is one of the great things about it. It's a great place to camp with a tent, t.v. or you could rent a cabin. They also have a quarry you can swim or paddle boat in. It has a slide and a trampoline. No lifeguard on duty, so be careful. Flat rock river runs by a lot of the camp sites. Makes for a beautiful scenery, good fishing and/or float on it in your kayak or on a raft. Fun for all ages!

SCC has about 50 full hook sites and several electric and water. There is quite a few primitive areas as well. They remodeled their restroom and shower facilities this year. they also have 3 cabins on site. There are two catch and release ponds as well as Sugar Creek to fish at. We are locals and this is our go to as it is quiet and we can see the kids play from our campsite. They even have a frisbee golf course.
We recommend this place to anyone coming into the area, the owners are nice and do not put up with loud campers/partiers. They are ok with most anything as long as it doesn’t disturb other guest or cause damage to the campground.
GuideWe called for reservations less than two weeks in advance, and they only had one site left. If coming from the north-west, try to arrive before dark as the road over the hills to this place is beautiful, but narrow and forested with some trees very close to the roadway. The entrance road to the campground is quite steep. We arrived after the office had closed, so they had left an envelope taped to the door with our name and a map to our site. We were in the full-hookup, back-in RV sites connected with the cabins but they are across the street so they’re not too connected if you don’t know who’s in the cabin nearest you. Most of the other rigs in this row seemed to be long-term. We were on the end opening onto trees and the gravel cul de sac. It’s beautiful.
Pads are gravel and we did need to use several leveling blocks on our site, which made for a doosey of a bottom step into and out of our trailer. This end of the park is very quiet, with dark skies at night for stargazing and lovely field and forest sounds. Even though the office had closed a couple of hours before, the owner Bruce came by after we had set up to make sure we were in ok. Thoughtful!
The “patio” pad for the picnic table is 12” concrete blocks. It was mostly level, but not near the edge near our tow vehicle. Tripped a few times; these blocks should be redone.
We needed some trailer work while we were here, so asked the owner for recommendations. The manager Ed then came by after the guy had come to be sure we were pleased with the recommendation.
Bathrooms were a short walk up the hill to the office. Pretty good, though they often needed supplies restocked.
We would definitely stay here again. We stayed in site 9.
TravelerThe beautiful farm is located in a rural area. Upon arrival we wasn’t sure where to go. There wasn’t a sign but we called Tim and he came right out and showed us to our spot. He was very friendly and accommodating. We felt safe and knew if we needed anything he was there to help. The tree tent was very comfortable. Picnic table and fire pit right there. We cooked dinner on the fire pit grill. The only one small complaint is the people staying in the cabin were extremely loud. Even though we was at the secluded area their voices carried until 3am. It would not stop us from coming back but should be noted. We walked around the farm, checked out the alpacas and goats. There was a class reunion going on so we didn’t want to bother anyone for a farm tour. Plus we was only there one night. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back. I recommend checking this place out.
TravelerI am tent camper and stayed at tent primitive section right by the creek. They have RV section, electric tent sites and primitive and those do not mix - no tents at rv section and vice versa. I camp weekdays so I had all section to myself for three days. You can carry your chair right to the creek and hang out in the shade. There are few trails looping around for the walks. Most of tent sites got shade. Rv sites all seem to be level, although kind of close together. Nice and clean bathrooms and shower facility. I have not tried renting canoe because they were closed for a season, due to low water level in the creek. There are a lot of nice places around to visit Turkey Run and Shades state parks are not far as well as numerous covered bridges to explore. Campground stays quiet at night - haven’t seen partying or noise. They also have few cute cabins for rent right by the creek. Will definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed here because of the discount offered through Passport America, and somehow the price was still too high. We paid $42 for a FHU pull through site (that was after the discount). However, it was a nice park and it was nice to get caught up on laundry and showers.
You can pay for laundry with the CSCPay app ($5 credit when you first sign up, so your first load is free), or you can pay with credit card. No coins taken. Laundry was nice and clean and the dryers worked excellent.
There are FHU pull through sites, or back in sites with electric only (there is a dump station available). There are also cute cabins available as well.
There are lots of things to do here at the park, but the park itself is out in the middle of nowhere. It was a really eerie feeling when we were there, because almost every spot was taken, but nobody was there. I guess people pay for the season and leave their trailers on site and come in for the weekend.
There’s a nice tent area in the back, rolling grassy area where we let our dog run around off leash since nobody was around. The lake in the middle of the park was really nice, and you can rent pedal gokarts or golf carts, or boats for paddling around the lake.
The camp store is nice, lots of food and supplies and gifts available for sale. There are trash dumpsters here but no recycling.

Lisa and Brent have created a perfect spot to relax for a weekend getaway and enjoy the shows at both the campground and at deer creek. RV sites are full hookup and very level. Lake at the campground is great to float around in on a hot summer day. We enjoyed the bus ride both days to see Dave Matthews Band.
LegendBook a weekend at Heritage Alpaca Farm (be it in a tent, RV, historic cabin, or forest tensile) and you will not regret it. This well-kept farm is tended to by incredible hosts, Tim & Beth. They have put much love into their inviting and scenic country haven.
As RV campers, we pulled into the circular driveway and parked with ease. A 30 amp hookup and water spigot are available within the recreation barn (along with ping-pong and often times Frost, the friendly Great Pyranese). From your rig you have a view of a small alpaca pasture and their covered event space.
Around the barn is a private fire pit, and Tim provided firewood upon request. Private toilets are a few steps away which are very clean.
WHAT MAKES HERITAGE FARM A GEM:
SUNSETS: We loved walking the grounds at dusk, enjoying epic sunsets and watching the fireflies light up, as far as the eye can see. The bicentennial barn is stunning and wonderfully restored. It's great for an excellent up-close look at the alpacas. Tim is a wealth of knowledge about the docile creatures and happy to answer any questions.
FRESH EGGS: We enjoyed farm fresh eggs every morning from their free-range chickens.
COOL CREEK: A small creek runs across the back of their property. On a hot Summer day, it's a nice place to sit and cool off.
ITALIAN PIZZA: An Italian style wood-fired outdoor pizza oven on the grounds is fired up for community pizza nights. Check with hosts to see when they are doing their next pizza night al fresco.
ALPACA STORE: A boutique on property sells luxury alpaca goods like scarves, wraps, socks, and more. The perfect place to pick up Christmas gifts. In November, a local artisan market is hosted here.
BIKING: The roads around the farm are quiet and smooth and make for excellent bike riding.
SWING: A swing on the property is a fun pastime for kids....Or for a small adult with a childlike spirit :)
*The town of Kokomo offers any groceries or amenities you need and is only a 20-minute drive.
RangerWe came in at 10 pm in search for our site. It’s about a 1/2 mile from the main road. It’s a big place we noticed at daylight. Nice playground, appears they have some cabins to be rented, some sites were on the water, very clean and maintained. 40 miles from Greenwood, In. Sites are large and easy to maneuver our 42’ 5th wheel. Our site had full hookup, flat ground so easy setup. The only cos are- while the campground sign can be seen from the main road on the way in- it all disappears in the dark after you turn onto the road. It’s needs to be marked better. Had there been arrows or signs it would have made it SO much easier. Day or night. We felt our way to the office since there were a few roads going in opposite directions. The girl said she’d leave our paperwork at the office. No paperwork or maps. This little road is quite narrow, has some pretty tight turns with trees on both sides and in the night it’s hard to tell where the rear end of your camper is on the turns where there are trees close to the road, if it’s a long one like ours. So needing to back up would literally be a nightmare. We drove down this little road quite a while unsure if we were heading in the right direction for the office. An office sign finally appeared like a beacon in the night about 3/4 mile off the main road- but at that point if we would have been incorrect it would have been a long way to back up our 42’ in the dark on these little roads. A lot of campgrounds make this mistake. They don’t plan on people coming in at night into a strange campground. There were several roads leading in different directions and it was hard to tell which one was the “main” road had there been directionals showing which road went to which sites would have been helpful. Site numbers were hard to see unless you walked up to each site with a flashlight. Not sure why campgrounds make their site numbers so allusive. Either they aren’t marked at all, they’re so small you can hardly see them or there is no rhyme or reason as to where they put them. Consistency would be great!!!!! It was just very difficult to navigate in a strange campground in the dark. Like many I’m sure we ended up just walking in front of the truck with a flashlight to be able to see the numbers. We avoid setting up in the dark at all costs because it’s absolutely the worst but sometimes you just get caught for various reasons- and there should be a better way.
GuidePull through sites are spacious. Tress are young, across the road from Brown County national forest so hiking galore. And a short drive to Downtown Nashville Indiana! Hit the kettle corn stand for the best kettle popcorn around! Pool is okay a bit dated, camp store was sparsely stocked.
ScoutOur first time camping at a KOA. Nice and shaded sites with full hookups. Clean bathrooms and showers. Nice laundromat. Staff was very friendly. Was a little pricey but with water electric sewer and cable hookups and a laundromat. Definitely worth the price. And the town of Nashville Indiana is about 10 minutes away with lots of neat shops and food. We had a great time.
LegendRanger Review: Grubstick at Holiday KOA Greenfield, Indiana. Campground Review: So, I’ve said it before, KOA’s are not my kind of camping. However I find myself once again with a KOA yearly membership. Why? Because several of the people whom I camp with enjoy the WiFi and other perks of staying at a KOA. I met my brother and his wife at the Holiday KOA https://koa.com/campgrounds/indianapolis/ right outside Indianapolis, Indiana for a very wet tent camp out. I towed my redneck “tent platform” and brought along plenty of tarpage. No kayak, the weather actually dipped into the high thirty’s and I am not a cold weather kayaker. Perks of this KOA are a very nice playground and wading pool area. So if you have younger children, ideal for you. There is a nice size dog park and you can get a nice walk in around the campground. They have delivery style pizza right on site and some planned activities on weekends. There is the aforementioned WiFi and the latrine is newer but lacking in hooks ( I’m a big hook person, where else am I supposed to hang my bathroom bag and clothes while showering or grooming at the sink?) The other issue with the latrine is there is only ONE for the entire campground. This is a nice size campground and it can be a good hike from the backside to the latrine, I know this because I had to make that hike more then once. The other issue with that is not everyone is willing to walk that far when they need to go, so where do you suppose they take care of their business? .... exactly! And then there’s my same old complaint of they fit a camper or tent into every square meter of this park, it can get very full and crowded. Excuse me while I look in your window or can over hear every word you say. Holiday was very well maintained to the point of mowing while I’m trying to set up my area and blowing grass all over everything, please don’t run over my dog...Otherwise we had fun looking for area happenings and shopping. I visited Fort Harrison State Park which was nearby. Product Review: As a Dyrt Ranger I get the opportunity on occasion to review outdoor oriented products. I had the chance to try out Grubstick https://grubstick.com/ and I can say I was excited! I am a campfire cooking kind of person and have tried out many contraptions, the Grubstick is a long time in coming. I say that because this ain’t your grandma’s wiener roasting stick or your moms wicked pointed metal fork that can put your eye out or trip you when it slides down the side of the chair leg. The most phenomenal part of the Grubstick is that the handle is.....RETRACTABLE!!! No more wedging the fork in the most inconvenient place or trying to fit it in your cooking box. The handle when not expanded can fit easily into your pocket, day pack, backpack, fannypack !!! To me that is AWESOME!! Revolutionary! Seems to be sturdier then ones I’ve seen in camp stores. Along with the handle comes two attachments and a easy open handle in a nice, durable carry bag, LOVE IT. Christmas gifts all around! And this was before I checked it out. I have two “sets” and unfortunately one of the sticks broke after only a few retractions and extensions. Perhaps I was too vigorous in my extension technique? So carefully extend your grubstick when using. Otherwise it worked like a dream! And the other stick had no issues, so maybe just a flaw in that one stick? I haven’t contacted the company yet, but I will see how they are about returns or replacements. I roasted some sausages and we toasted some marshmallows for s’mores. The pack up was easy too, nice carry bag to put it all in, I usually carry or reuse a freezer type bag for “dirty” silverware etc. I removed the fork head off the Grubstick and it went right in. No MESS! No Long Pointy Stick with goo at the end to wrap and store. Love it! I didn’t use the Grubstick basket while camping so I pulled it out at the house to add some footage and testing. If Grubstickadds a pie pan attachment, I’m one of the first in line to get it!! Happy Camp Cooking ;)
