The Home Depot — Randhurst

Adjacent to the Randhurst Shopping Village in Mount Prospect, this Home Depot location provides overnight parking on an expansive asphalt lot. The pavement shows wear with visible cracks and tar lines, but offers ample space for RVs and vehicles seeking a stopover. Store lighting illuminates the area throughout the night.

The northeast corner receives the least traffic flow and sits furthest from the main storefront, making it the preferred parking zone according to overnight visitors. Early morning and late evening hours see minimal parked traffic, giving campers their choice of spots. Costco — Mount Prospect sits just northwest for those comparing camping near Mount Prospect retail locations. The suburban setting means traffic lights and retail activity surround the property.

Suburban Home Makeover Parking Pad

One of the main retail anchors to the Randhurst Shopping Village here in Palatine, you’ll find that there’s a magnanimous amount of cracked, tar-line-scarred pavement to call yours for either a short or long spell. While the pavement itself has seen better days, this is a solid lay-up despite being smack dab in the middle of an otherwise concrete jungle completely surrounded by retail distractions, traffic lights and congestion.

If you can manage the suburban sprawl out in these parts and are simply looking to drop anchor for the night, then this place will do quite nicely. There’s great night lighting and early / late store opening / closing you’ll experience that there’s not much parked traffic here, so you’ll literally have your pick of places to park, of which I strongly recommend the NE corner where traffic coming and going is at its slowest, plus, you’ll be furthest from the storefront.

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience (EZ on- and off-access), safety & security, quality (of facilities), peace & quiet and amenities (either on-site or nearby). Here’s how I ranked this particular overnight spot:

Convenience: 4

Safety & Security: 4

Quality: 3

Peace & Quiet: 3

Amenities: 4

Overall, I scored this location a 4

Happy Overnighting!
