Where Highway 11 cuts through the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, Porters Camp provides free camping in a large timbered area. The site sits among mature trees that create shaded spots throughout the camping area. Access requires driving in, and campers can bring pets and alcohol while enjoying campfires.

One reviewer notes the campground tends to stay busy, though it offers a good spot when empty. However, conflicting information exists about public access, with a 2023 visitor reporting difficulty locating the camp and hearing from locals that Potlatch owns the area. Campers should verify current access status before making the drive to this forest location near places to camp around Weippe.
