The sound of the Salmon River flowing past camp sites creates a constant backdrop at this Forest Service campground positioned between Stanley and Redfish Lake along Highway 75. Two distinct loops offer different experiences, with the upper loop sitting closer to the river and the lower loop receiving more sunlight due to its distance from the riverside bluffs.
Sites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet and include gravel tent pads, steel picnic tables, and prep tables for fish cleaning. Bob R. notes that "all sites have picnic table, prep table, fire ring and tent pad and are quite large and lots of space between sites." The campground operates with both first-come, first-served and reservable sites, with a camp host available for assistance and firewood sales.
River access varies by site, with some campers finding easy walks to the water while others face rockier terrain. Fishing draws many visitors to the Salmon River, and the prep tables prove useful for cleaning catches. Vault toilets throughout the campground receive consistent praise for cleanliness, and hand-pump water stations provide cold drinking water. Cell service reaches most areas of the campground.
The Stanley Ranger Station sits half a mile north, offering dump stations for $12 and additional fresh water access. Redfish Lake's facilities, including showers and laundry, operate just across the highway. Austin C. found this location useful when "Redfish lake was all reserved, so we ended up camping across the highway here."
Some tent sites present challenges with rocky ground that resists standard tent stakes. The campground operates from late May through early September, with places to camp near Stanley providing additional options during peak season.
