Hawleys Landing Campground — Heyburn State Park

This is a cute campground with great hosts. Most folks come in to bike the trail. Verizon is not great and our Starlink had some blockages, but that’s what you get with lots of trees.

The experience was overall pretty fun. Rolled in on a Saturday, packed up on a Monday and had no issue with crowds the entire time. We spent some time at the lake, which was a short but steep trail away from the campsite. The trees offered some great shade+privacy and there were some spectacular views from the campsite. Our first night we watched someone setting off fireworks from across the lake and thought it was awesome (hopefully they were being responsible). The only thing that was actually disappointing was the lack of space around the fire pit to put our chairs. The awkward slope around the fire pit made it difficult and frustrating to cook and enjoy a nice campfire. If possible I would check google earth before selecting a campsite here. Regardless, I like how quiet and clean this park was and would definitely come visit again.

Friendly & knowledgeable staff, clean and well organized sites, fair amount of trees and bushes for reasonable “campground privacy” (tent-only spots have less privacy than sites with electricity and water), Lake CDA super close by (many sites with great views, paved trail that extends many miles for bikers and runners, cabins available (reservations), not fancy, but CLEAN BATHROOMS that are WARM and have no-coin HOT SHOWERS. FYI: Does not have restaurant, but who needs one camping??? P.S. Reasonably priced.

The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of hikes to go on that have beautiful views. The campsite area was clean including the bathroom and showers. The water and electric hook-up all worked great (ReserveAmerica says site 49 does not have water but it does). 

Site 49 is on the inside of the loop so it is crowded next to other sites. There are a few spots that would feel really cramped while others feel nice and open (Outside loop sites have more space). T-Mobile has no coverage here.

We were able to get a campsite just a few days before our trip. That was great because this was a last minute plan. The campsites are very well maintained. Facilities and dump sites are super clean. The visitors center is close by.

Lots of dogs and kids. But it was surprisingly quiet at sundown. Just a bit of Highway noise.

This is the base for the Trail of the Coeur D’Alenes. 73 miles of paved bike trail. What more can you ask for.

Campsites shaded by trees. Lots of room between sites. Short drive to lake for swimming and boating. Quiet times enforced. Will definitely camp here again.

Spent the night at the Heyburn Campground tenting with friends. Nice campground and facilities. Everything seemed to be maintained and kept clean. The best part of the campground was the accessibility to the lake. It was maybe a little over a quarter-mile walk from our campground to the path that goes along the lake but its work the walk. The path offers great views of Lake Cour d'Alene and my friends and I took a short swim. Overall great time and would recommend it for people looking to get away for the weekend.

Don’t get me wrong, this place was great for one night but the lack of privacy and tent spots right on top of each other is not going to make you feel like you’ve escaped to the wilderness.

I loved this spot right on the edge overlooking the lake! There were lots of trees for hanging our hammock and our spot was large enough for our 2 tents and several dogs 🐕.

Great place to swim, kayak, bike, and go bird watching. There are usually other visitors (especially boats on the water) but it never gets too hectic! Nice place to hang out.

We had an amazing time here. Had a great time hiking and walking along the lake. I just wish the weather was better!

Our stay here was very satisfying. Plenty of hiking to do. Plenty of places to stay. If you are into biking, it is located at the beginning of the Trail of the Coeur d'alenes, a 72 mile paved trail. The Chatcolet campground is only feet from the side of the trail. Make sure to make reservations ahead of time and leave plenty of time to explore.

I wish we had more time to spend at this campground. It was a bit off the beaten path but worth it. It is also situated right by a lake, but did not see any direct access to the lake from the campground. There were clean restrooms here and showers. There is also a visitor center to purchase items but they were closed by the time we rolled in. They were open in the morning, roughly around 8. Would like to go back and stay a couple of nights in the future. There was a no burn order in place, or site was nice and secluded.

Our favorite campground🏕, We visit every year.! The Trail of the Coeur D'Alene runs through this campground.Biking 🚵‍♀️the 7 mile ride to Harrison is a great way to spend the day, you cross the lake over a bridge, watching eagles 🦅 swoop over the lake as you ride, and finish your day with ice cream 🍧 at Harrison Creamery and Fudge Factory! You can also kayak🛶, boat⛵, hike 🏃and fish🐟. The perfect campground to keep the whole family entertained!

Always be aware of animals typical raccoons etc put your food away nice bathrooms good family camping

Stayed in the tent sites in Chatcolet, we got lucky and were in a site that was a bit more level. Noticed a lot of sites are unlevel. I also thought we were going to be closer to the water but its like a 5 min walk or you can drive/bike down to the playground, boat docs, water. Not sure if I'd go back or find a different place to go.

Beautiful campgrounds! We biked on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, saw lots of wildlife, and enjoyed the beach at Rocky Point. We Definitely will camp here again!!

Absolutely beautiful campsite with great views of the lake and a nice little fire pit. Campsite was in in view of other sites but still felt private. Stayed on a Friday night and all campsites were in use, so would definitely recommend reserving in advance. The lake is an absolute stunner.

I camped with a friend and had a great time. We hiked and floated around the lake. Great biking path. Beautiful views.

I stayed at the campground that was first come first serve there were still a lot of open sites. There are so many things you can do at the state park I highly recommend going here. It's very beautiful!

We went in April, before things got busy and noisy. We were the only ones in the tent only walk-in sites, which were primo. Nice access to the water/docks, and all sorts of trails to access from the campground, including bike trails. It was pretty pricing for only using a tent site without amenities, and there were decimals involved while doing the math. Really?? I can't attest to what it's like during busy summer days, but it was nice in the spring.
