Perfect place by the lake for adventures
First, let me say, there are 3 different campgrounds in this state park. Hawleys Landing, Chatcolat and Benewah. Harleys is our favorite, as the Trails of the Coeur d'Alene (famous rails to trails) is about one mile from the campground. Just a short walk brings you to the boat dock.. if you like to Kayak or SUP, you will love the water trail through the marsh of reeds and lily pads. Trust me.. it's magical. We didn't hike. But there is a couple of easy ones..
It is a very popular campground. We were fortunate to check just as someone canceled reservations and so were able to stay for 6 days in 2 different sites.
Speaking of sites, just know that they are not level. Bring blocks to run up on and you'll be fine. That and close sites were the only reason for 4 stars.
Chotcolat campground is about 2.5 miles, 5 minutes, away from the ranger station. There is close access to the bike trail and 2 options for boat launching in the area. It is shaded.
Benewah is tents and RVs, but about 15 min. from the ranger station and the other 2 campgrounds. It does not have access to the biking trail. The boat launch is at a weird angle so you might have to park down the road at Rocky Point. Not as convenient.
At&T service spotty at best in Hawleys Landing. None at the other 2 campgrounds.
