River Forks Park & Campground

The narrow roads and steep terrain at River Forks Park create an intimate camping experience on Lake Lanier's shoreline. Army Corps of Engineers management maintains this compact campground where sites perch on hillsides with direct water access, though the challenging topography requires careful maneuvering for larger RVs.

All sites face the lake with concrete pads, picnic tables, and fire rings, though the sloping landscape means some amenities sit well below the camping pad level. Michael C. notes that "fire rings are frequently located 12-20 feet away from picnic table and 3 to 9 feet below site level on a slope." Sites vary significantly in size and accessibility, with lower-numbered spots generally offering better conditions for setup. The campground provides water and electric hookups but no sewer connections, with a single dump station serving all campers.

Lake access defines the camping experience here, with four docks throughout the park and a boat ramp with ample parking. Many sites allow campers to tie watercraft directly at their location, making it particularly convenient for boating enthusiasts. The surrounding area includes camping near Sidney Lanier Recreation Area for those seeking additional options. Wildlife sightings are common, with deer frequently moving through campsites.

The park operates a no-pet policy and provides six bathhouses, though maintenance issues affect some facilities according to recent visitors. Cell service performs well with strong signals for major carriers, while the remote location offers 75 over-the-air television channels. Firewood is available at the office, and playground facilities serve families with children.

Campers should reserve specific sites carefully, as the steep access roads and varying pad sizes can challenge larger rigs. Brett D. describes it as "overall a nice and quite campground on Lake Lanier" where all sites provide water views despite the compact layout.

Many campers appreciated excellent Lake Lanier access and water views, making it popular for boaters. A common theme was outdated facilities and challenging site conditions with small spaces and unlevel terrain requiring careful selection.

Moved to site 47(Pull-Thru) but due to road slope pull-thru is un-usable. Lower numbered sites(less than 30) appear somewhat better. Empty camp ground host side byhind 47 cannot be used unless site 47 is emprty due to sloping road. One single use dump station. One campground host presently in the park- their site was not marked. Appears that most sites are back-in and set sideways to a hillside and lakefront leaving very little level space for chairs. Fire rings are frequently located 12-20 feet away from picnic table and 3 to 9 feet below site level on a slope. Reservation Software used by office was down upon Saturday arrival with no IT help until Monday- two days away leaving office staff frustrated and using their own phone to access the reservation system customers use instead of management side of software. Staff stated it goes down frequently with no IT support on weekends. Six bathhouses in park. Bathhouse nearest beach closed awaiting replacement of fixtures after renovation. Shower has outdated fixtures- several shower heads had significant mineral deposits restricting flow. Men's side closed at another bathhouse. Many shower stalls had no hook or fixture to hang a towel or clothing. Several showers had broken shower valves making them unusable. Stayed 9 nights and did not see anyone working on bathhouses. Beach area parking is limited to 6 or 7 spaces and one handicap space however, there is a larger parking lot a little further away. Bathhouse showers have a pull string valve next to the shower head that had to be held down to get water with many strings broken, missing and too short to allow shorter people, children, or handicaped wheel-chair use. Some sites have precarious/dangerous sloping driveways for RVs to get into. Newly installed sites are near completion but they make sites very close together. Many sites do not have a fire pit and many do not have a grill. Many sites arer too small to park a second vhicle even if the camper is small. Parking on dirt or grass is prohibited by rules but appears to be selectively enforced. The campground has a boat ramp and reasonably large parking area. Extra careful site selection is warranted. Four docks in River Forks Park. Firewood is available at the office. CHECK-IN: 01:00 PM CHECK-OUT: 12:00 PM RIG: 42ft- 17,000 lb 5th Wheel"

Greta stay

Nice little campground. It’s a COE campground but maintained by Hall County Park and Rec. a few sites do need leveling to be able to back in without ripping off your level jacks.

Nice and quite campground on the lake

Overall a nice and quite campground on Lake Lanier that’s not a COE campground. Easy to navigate and locate the sites. All have water views, picnic tables, fire pits, and grills. Some have hookups on the opposite side of camper. No sewer connection but park does have a dumb station. Staff was very friendly.

Good place for a quick stay

Nice campground. Very secluded but with great views of lake Lanier. Sites are pretty small with not a lot of room but they do ok. Could be bigger but the land doesn’t really allow it. Sites are all paved and the have pull through and back in

First camped here 15 years ago.

We’ve always loved River Forks! Normally 4-5 stars!! Unfortunately it’s in need of some updating and TLC now. They’ve redone 7 RV sites recently and we’re hoping more are slated for updates soon! Very convenient to anything you need but hidden away with lots of deer, great access to the lake and many sites allow tying your boat or water toys up at the sites.

Really nice park

Update: will not return to this park. We got into a pickle between not having storage until the 1/4 and our camper being returned on 1/1. Obviously, we decided to camp in it ourselves. However, the management was completely inflexible. We live in the area and could come up a day early to check in because they would be closed on the first, but said we either had to pay (for a night we wouldn't be using- $30 in the trash) or arrive later (not exactly going to help out with our predicament). I understand there are policies but honestly what would you be losing? The site is open, no one else is booking it (I sincerely doubt anyone will book between now and then, it's a day away). Just an example of how people treat each other now a days. Some people genuinely care, some are only looking for money

With access to both the lake and some playgrounds, this place was really nice. There were some questionable road edges, so I took one star off for that, but otherwise it was really nice. It had a nice grate of you want to cook over the fire, as well as a pretty clean charcoal grill.

Great location, great sites

I’ve camped here several times in both tent and RV. If you have a boat you won’t find a better campground for accessing Lake Lanier.

Clean and Awesome

Great for lake fun and relaxing days. Plenty of access and views of Lake Lanier. We’ve camped here multiple and it’s never let us down.
