    Winder, Georgia

Nestled between Athens and Atlanta, Fort Yargo is a 1,816-acre park located in Georgia state. Its namesake comes from a log fort that was constructed by settlers who, at the time, built it to protect themselves against the Creek and Cherokee. Nowadays, visitors flock to this park to enjoy the variety of outdoor recreation and activities.

Apart from all the recreation the park has to offer, it also provides some of the most gorgeous views in the Eastern region of the United States. Here, folks can enjoy over 20 miles of hiking and bike trails. Fort Yargo State Park is also a common location for outdoor weddings and other types of special events and celebrations.

Those looking to stay overnight have an abundance of options to choose from. The park offers 12 walk-in campsites, 13 “adventure” cabins, 40 RV and tent campsites, group shelters, and even lakeside yurts for anyone wanting a true “glamping” experience. The fees for staying overnight range from $25-135, and do not include the ParkPass fee. The ParkPass fee is $5 per day for passenger vehicles carrying a maximum of 12 people, and for passenger vehicles with additional occupants the fee is $30 per day. Additionally, there is an annual option for $50-75 per year. Luckily, visitors are only required to pay for a ParkPass once during the entirety of their stay.

The main attractions to this park are the variety of activities such as disc golf, mini golf, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing, and geocaching. Disc golf has proven to be a challenge for many visitors, at least partly due to the fact that it's a densely wooded course. This park is also home to a gorgeous 260-acre lake with a seasonal beach. Visitors can enjoy a day at the lake on one of the two beach pavilions and fishing is a welcome activity as well.

One of the most Wish-Listed Airbnbs in the world, on Netflix’s “Worlds Most Amazing Vacation Rentals” & “Love is Blind.” Antiques, lux beds, power, AC/Heat, marble bath, in a private bamboo forest, on a working rescue farm. Watch llamas wander; hear roosters crow, in Atlanta. We book film, weddings, photography for SPECIAL RATES--must have contract/ins in advance! Check out our beautiful Cottages too. Website: alpacatreehouse. Follow us on insta: Alpacatreehouse. NO KIDS UNDER 12-safety first!

    The space

We are open for stays and disinfect everything and are supremely conscientious about cleanliness. We also practice social distancing and send check in instructions for zero contact. There is not a safer place than in the middle of our private bamboo forest! The Alpaca Treehouse is one of the most wish-listed Airbnbs in the world, honored to be featured in Netflix’s “Worlds Most Amazing Vaction Rentals” and Episode 9 on Netflix’s “Love is Blind.” We were on all Delta’s inflight commercials for a year. We were an Ultimate Treehouse 6 on “Treehouse Masters,” episode found on the Animal Planet website. Also featured on ABC’s Primetime TV Show, "Kevin Probably Saves the World," 3 episodes of the VH1 show "Love & Hip Hop." A multitude of music videos filmed here (Trey Songz and Mayday Parade were highlights), indie movies, loads of commercial videography, still photography, intimate events, and weddings. We are a rescue farm of rescued llamas, alpacas, chickens, dogs, and cats.

    Children over 12 only please.

We have the ability to sleep 2 guests but PLEASE keep in mind this is a treehouse, not a tree-mansion. It’s a 12 x12 space with an 8 x12 loft. We have a queen sized mattress in the loft and a sofa on the main floor (not a sofa bed).

All photography and videography, ceremonies have special rates, contracts, set hours, and insurance and MUST BE scheduled in advance. Arrangements must be made PRIOR to your arrival. Failure to adhere to this policy WILL result in cancellation of your booking without refund. We don't allow parties in the tree house, but can handle small parties in the Bamboo Barn. Message for rates please.

Also on the farm property, two beautifully designed and appointed brick cottages with views of the barn, llamas, and alpacas are on Airbnb and welcome kids of all ages. Llama Stay Farm Cottage sleeps 7 and is a large beautiful home. Likewise, Luxury Llama Cottage sleeps 5 and is also outfitted with antiques, oil paintings, and comfortable furniture. Links to these accommodations can be found at alpacatreehouse. Dot. Com.

In our treehouse, you wake up on the queen size memory foam bed in a climate-controlled loft and peer out the large skylight at the swaying zen bamboo. Look to the Southern gable and take in the gorgeous jewel tones of the stained glass and see the bamboo through the French doors. Look to the forest floor to see grazing alpacas and llamas. We also have our beautiful and comfortable swinging rope bed (Bali bed) decked out with a slew of comfy pillows and a full sized mattress!

The treehouse is built with all reclaimed architectural antiques, so staying here is like living a jewel box, an art project. Roosters crow nearby because you are on a working farm, in City of Atlanta. You are 15 feet above the forest floor, tucked into the middle of a 80- year old bamboo forest. And there are beautiful Bolivian suri alpacas (like a small llamas with dreadlocks) roaming: Paloma Piper, Caitlin Tastee, Elfie Fay Von Picklesprite, and Sunny Shevoun. We also have five gentle, calm llamas named Dali Llama and Llama Mia Figaro (Figgy), Campari (camel colored), Sophie (bay brown), and baby llama Llyra wandering about grazing.

This treehouse was built with reclaimed architectural salvaged elements so you have the feeling you are in a historic room with the multi-colored walls of heart of pine beaded board. But the two skylights, with views of the bamboo canopy above, shed dappled light through the vaulted ceiling and remind you that's it's not the late eighteen hundreds. Some of the beaded board was reclaimed from Civil War era homes.

The treehouse features several pieces of turn of the century stained glass, heart of pine floors from an old nineteen oh five church, Victorian French doors that open onto a wrap- around catwalk, a composting toilet, heat and air, and electrical throughout. You'll want to sip your coffee or a glass of wine on the large treehouse porch, held up by black locust trees, still sporting their bark. Or maybe you'll want to walk around the deck of the tree house to check out the bamboo forest or the alpacas and llamas. The tree house roof is clad in eighteen sixty-one South Georgia barn tin, so if it rains, you'll have a night of gentle percussive rhythm (we sprayed insulation foam so the treehouse is energy efficient and the roof not too loud). Our stairs are live-edge heart cedar and quite beautiful.

The treehouse is wrapped in cedar trim and vintage heart of pine siding salvaged off an old Atlanta house (the porch, so it wasn't painted). We furnished our tree house in antiques and we have a composting toilet, a small fridge, a Keurig coffee maker, 3 gallons of potable water, and an antique enamelware wash basin to wash your face.

The fully functional (running water) marble bathroom is a short walk down a rustic path through the bamboo forest. The marble bathroom boasts a gorgeous walk-in shower, a "no rules" toilet, and a vintage restored sink.

Contact us if your also interested in having a wedding here (they are so magical), doing engagement photography, shooting music videos, hosting small events in the Bamboo Barn or shooting a television show. These have special rates and terms. But we are happy to accommodate.

    Guest access

We have room to sleep 2 guests (over the age of 12) but keep in mind that the treehouse is small, a 12x12 with an 8x12 loft. We have a leather sofa (not a sofa bed) in the main room of the treehouse. And we have a Queen size memory foam bed in the sleeping loft again with high thread count sheets, a duvet, and sumptuous pillows. And some people sleep on our full sized Bali swinging rope bed beneath the treehouse. The treehouse boasts a private, green marble water closet with a composting toilet (pee-pee only), as well as a private, fully dedicated white marble bathroom with a gorgeous walk-in shower, an antique vitreous china sink, and modern toilet, located in the basement of our granite house nearby. We have a covered large tree house porch.

All photography and videography, ceremonies have special rates, contracts, set hours, and insurance and MUST BE scheduled in advance. Arrangements must be made PRIOR to your arrival. Failure to adhere to this policy WILL result in cancellation of your booking without refund.

    Other things to note

Parking for two cars is available at the alpaca corral--please pull up and park at the 1930s stove. There is a dedicated stone path that leads to the treehouse, in the middle of the bamboo forest. You may pet the animals on the neck (they hate their faces to be touched). They LOVE baby organic carrots. There is a dedicated stone flagstone path that leads to the private marble bathroom in the basement of the granite house--go under the treehouse and past the Bali Bed, up the railroad tie stairs and through the double gates. Follow the path to the bathroom.

All photography and videography, ceremonies have special rates, contracts, set hours, and insurance and MUST BE scheduled in advance. Arrangements must be made PRIOR to your arrival. Failure to adhere to this policy could result in cancellation of your booking without refund.

    Stunning Cabin!

Nicest state park cabin I’ve never stayed in! The furnishings were beautiful and the screened porch was amazing. I really appreciated that the bedding and towels were plush and extremely comfortable-very unlike most state parks or other rental cabins. It was also impeccably clean, AND the bathrooms had handcrafted local soaps!

As a side note, my husband is a wheelchair user and this was the most accessible vacation rental we’ve ever encountered (and we travel a lot). The picnic table had a seat cutout, the fire pit and grill were on a level surface, and the kitchen sink was roll under! 10/10 thank you HLC for the thoughtful attention to accessibility.

    Fort Yargo State Park Campground

    Relaxation in The Woods

Fort Yargo is in the Winder Ga area and is close to Helen, Jefferson, Athens and Atlanta. Entering the campground is a nice paved road and leads to tent camping, cabins, yurts and RV sites.

Very clean park and has Historical area, playground, tennis court, bike and hike trails. Not to mention beach and boating area.

Picnics, camping, boating biking and camping or just day use areas. Pet friendly and all around great park.

There is a small general store, but you are so close to everything if you need it, it's there.

Gread for the Georgia Bulldog crowd as its less then 30 minutes!

    I recommend this park highly.

So close to me and I love it.

Lived in Georgia my whole life and yet my first time to Stone Mountain was literally three years ago. Now we have an annual pass and go all the time. This place is world renowned for its fireworks and laser show but you have to go off the pavement to truly fall in love with Stone Mountain! This place is great for everyone. I mean everyone, from free runners to hikers and all you folk that like to “camp” in your RVs. Visit this place anytime of year and you will not be disappointed. Apparently it’s rated #1 as the best place to camp in Georgia. I’m more into the nature only kind of camping but that’s not everyone’s cup a tea. Stone Mountain has something for everyone.

    Absolutely one of the best

The title says it all. The grounds are excellent. Plenty of spots. Water, electric, sewer, primitive sites, cabins, drive thru, back ins, lake front, golf, stone mountain itself, washer/dryers, store, etc. Wow! Will definitely be back. We parked with a 41’ motorhome by the lake for 2 nights and absolutely loved it.

    Great campground

Stone Mountain Park has a very large campground and there’s a wide range of sites and prices. The restroom and shower facilities are always clean. The main park is beautiful and has a really nice cycling and walking/running path around the mountain. There are also really good hiking trails, a lake with kayak rentals available and other attractions.

Spacious sites with lots to do!

We had a great weekend getaway here. We reserved an Orange Site overlooking the lake and highly recommend it. Every Saturday in December, there is a golf cart parade through the campground. The golf carts and RVs are decorated and everyone is in the holiday spirit. Plus, Stone Mountain has a whole Christmas celebration which provides lots of activities. Will definitely return!

    Amongst the activities

Stayed in site #253. Ok campground. Sites are small and uneven. Premium price but not premium site. Our site was on loop with a lot of shade. Camp has mostly full hookups including cable. Pool at campground and store. Yurts, rental campers, premium tents are also available. Lots of activities in this park. Very touristy but that's what I expected. Stone Mountain can hike or take sky tram to top. Many other options to do especially for kids. The laser show is a must see!! Many trails in the park for hiking, biking, running, walking. We kayaked the lake. In July it's very hot. Within 45 minutes to Atlanta. Good campground to enjoy many activities. Will return in fall/winter to enjoy some hiking.

This is a great, spacious campground and is very family friendly. It is convenient to all that Stone Mountain has to offer with convenient tram bus service to many areas of Stone Mountain Park.

There are a variety of sites, from nice upgraded sites to others right on the water. Many of the sites have plenty of shade. The campground is excellently maintained and the staff is super friendly.

    So much to do!

We stayed at Stone Mountain Park Campground over Labor Day weekend. We were surprised by all of the things to do and see. We visited Stone Mountain Park to play putt putt, ride the train, visit the Dinosaur Exhibit and ride the Skyride. Our son loved it all! The 4D theatre was closed due to Covid-19. We visited the Rock Quarry and Grist Mill. The REI boathouse was also closed due to Covid-19 so you couldn’t rent paddle boards or kayaks. We saw plenty of people on the lake who had brought their own. There were great bicycle trails, we wish we would’ve had some to enjoy that aspect. We will be back, probably in the Winter for the events and tubing.

The campsite was nice and shaded. The lake views and Stone Mountain View was stunning! We didn’t visit the bathhouses. It is tight getting your camper backed in, you may have a line of trucks & campers behind you waiting while you unhook and move your truck. It was a little tense since we are still newbies to camping but everyone was nice, patient and understanding.

Great family campground with lots of activities

This campground is inside Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain Park has many attractions you can do. Most attractions cost extra, but you get discounts when you are staying at the campground. The laser show is free and there is a convenient trolley that takes you to/from your campsite. The campground has a pool and activities like an Ice Cream social. There are spots right on the lake. We brought our kayaks and put in right from our site. The lake is very peaceful to kayak because motorized boats aren’t allowed. Our site was very shady which helps with the summer heat. The bathrooms were clean, but we used our RV mostly. The site was very spacious. We did the Ride the Ducks attraction which picked us up from the campground. The staff at the campground is very helpful and friendly.

    Beautiful!

Great week. The only downfall was that the trailer needed a lot of leveling. But it was totally worth it. Our site was on the lake. My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site. There was a lot to see and do at Stone Mountain.

    Beautiful view!

This campground is convenient to the attractions offered at Stone Mountain. The campsites offer an incredible view of the mountain and the lake. There are campsites directly on the water as well. The campground offers a pool and a camp store on site. Staff are quick to remedy any issues they are made aware of. The only drawbacks are campsites are extremely close together, and the bath houses need some updating.

    Stone Mountain Park Campground

    Extraordinary Attractions

Stone Mountain hardly needs another glowing review, but it is a pleasure to stay there. First, everything is contained and available. The views of the lake, and, yes, the mountain are gorgeous. There is a nice spacious check-in store. Your trash is picked up constantly from your site. Each site has a deck, a grill with a propane tank already attached, a picnic table, and a fire pit, electric and sewer hook ups. The sites are close together, but the decks are pretty private. If you bike, hike, run or like trails, boating and fishing, all are right there. It helps to have a car/truck, as the place is pretty immense, but my neighbors had a Class C and were throughly enjoying mountain biking to everything. Another neighbor with a gorgeous Class A was driving his towed truck to a neighboring Petco. There is everything. Deer roam in the morning and at night, and if golf is your sport of choice, Stone Mountain has a highly rated public course. The staff is very friendly. I liked the purple area near the playground and pool. The sites seemed a little more private. It’s not cheap, and I don’t know what discounts might be available. But, if you’re in or around Atlanta, this is the place to go. It will NOT disappoint.

    Stone Mountain Park Campground

    A spiritual area

There's so much to do at Stone mountain from hiking, boating, glass blowing, festivals and the hike up and the views are stunning, lots of animal life and an amazing and helpful staff from the bottom to the top.The police/fire men are not only family but some of the best guys I've met in this state, always willing to help. As well as being Ancient Indian Land it is also near the beggining of the trail of tears. A very very special place!

    Stone Mountain Park Campground

Great spot in pine trees; Accessible to the city

SITE: Pretty spot among many pine trees so feels private. You can see the water from the site and it's a great area to get around and walk outside. Our site was pretty level, we just needed a little boost on one side. Our sewer hose didn't fit in the hookup and it's higher than the ground so you had to assist your hose when dumping. Some of the asphalt getting to the site was really messed up so you have to dodge pot holes, but if you go slow it's perfectly doable- just bouncy. It froze 3 of the nights we were there so had to plan accordingly with our hoses.

AMENITIES: We were right across the way from Comfort Station#10 so to use the laundry room was really convenient. Daily trash pick up at site was very handy.$2 for both washing and drying. The dryers didn't work that well for us- had to run the cycle twice on towels. It's a very quiet and peaceful location.

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE: Wifi would occasionally load emails, but was not reliable and very slow to load basic searches, if at all. AT&T was 2 bars, but it worked fine at the site for calls and video calls.

You do have to pay a one time fee of$20 for your car entry into Stone Mountain on top of your RV park fees. Stone Mountain has great areas for walking and biking!

    Stone Mountain Park Campground

    Great place, very scenic..

With great views of Stone Mountain, close to hiking and activities, and right on the lake, this campground is very nice. It has plenty of amenities and a friendly staff. Where it falls short is at some of the sites. The fire ring and grill at our site (410, loop O) were not placed well; we never used them. Grill was right by the road, and the ring was too far forward. Both items would be better placed at the back of the site. It was quite a walk to get to the restroom. But, the shower and restroom were always clean. They have a laundry as well; very convenient overall. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back.
