    Fort Yargo State Park Campground

    Lakefront Overlook

    We stayed at Site #45, and it quickly became one of our favorite campsites because it felt more like a wooded overlook, perched above the lake. The breeze coming off the water kept us comfortable enough to enjoy a campfire even on a hot August evening.

    The site fit our 14x10 tent comfortably, but I wouldn’t recommend anything larger. There isn’t a true tent pad, and you’ll notice the slope while sleeping—but the view from inside the tent was priceless. We experienced a four-hour thunderstorm and didn’t have any standing water at our site afterward.

    ⚠️ The slope becomes much steeper near the shoreline, so I wouldn’t recommend this site for toddlers or anyone with mobility concerns.

    🛝 Our 7-year-old loved fishing from the shoreline and thought the steep slope made the perfect slide to get back down to the water. Built-in slide + dirty shorts = happy camper. 😂

    🔥 The site includes a clean fire ring with an adjustable cooking grate and a separate standing charcoal grill.

    🦟 We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes during our stay.

    🚰 The shared water pump wasn’t working during our visit.

    🚽 The bathhouse was spacious, clean, and only a short walk away.

    🚗 A community wagon is parked near the bathhouse for campers to use when hauling gear between their vehicle and campsite. Loved that!

    A few tips:

    🪵 The Visitor Center sells $6 bundles of firewood and has a nice selection of souvenirs.

    🐜 Plenty of flies and large ants, so keep your food put away and your tent zipped.

    🪲 Cicadas were loud at night. I loved it, but our 7-year-old slept with his wireless headphones on. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs if you’re camping here June-August.

    🎣 We caught more bluegill fishing from our campsite than we did from the fishing dock.

    🌅 If you’re looking for one of the best views in the campground and don’t mind sleeping on a slight incline, Site #45 is well worth considering.

    Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground

    Beautiful park with outstanding staff.

    Enjoyed a week long stay in late July, being at a higher elevation the weather was great. Sunny and comfortable during the day and cool crisp evenings in the 60's.

    The access road is a bit steep but wasn't too bad for our RAM 4x4 pulling a 21 ft. trailer.

    There are some larger sites but many of them are on the short side so be sure to confirm it will be deep enough for your needs before reserving.

    I have to give a big kudos for the volunteer camp hosts on site, one night at dark there was a storm/tornada watch issues and the hosts and park ranger went to every site and advised everyone to seek shelter in the bathhouses.

    The storm passed in about an hour and everyone was safe, but it is GREAT to know that the staff responded in a professional manner to assure everyone's safety.

    Loved our stay, everyone was friendly and pleasant, hope we can get back again soon.

    Reed Bingham State Park Campground

    Peaceful, not busy, clean restrooms, easy pull through sites

    This was surprisingly a very nice park. It's quiet even on the weekends and it has Mini Golf and Beach Volleyball for the kids. The restrooms are well maintained and also not busy. So there's plenty of them on-site. We had the pull through sight, it worked great.

    Pine Hill Camp

    Well maintained dispersed site, quiet solitude...

    Nice site off the beaten path, plenty of room with lots of shade and sun.

    We visited in July and was a bit warm but was able to run our generator as desired as the was only one other camper on this Thursday evening and they were located several hundred feet away.

    Of course being a dispersed site there are no hookups, and no fees :)

    The road in seemed well maintained and was an easy travel except for the occasional pothole. The campground grass had been recently cut and provided ample areas to set camp, there are even a few rock circles from previous campers that serves as a homemade firepit.

    Peaceful and felt safe, was an oasis in an area that has few documented dispersed camping sites.

    Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

    Unexpected adventure

    Originally intended to do some car camping after a day of hiking but I ended up reserving a camp site and grabbing a tent from a near by Walmart and I enjoyed every minute of it. This may not matter to most but it may matter to some...I am a black male and although I didn't see many people that looked like me, everyone was extremely friendly. Definitely got a lot more attention than I would have liked but at least I knew pple were looking out for me lol. Beautiful scenery, fun trails, fishing, a full outdoor experience.

    Cordele KOA

    Nice people but I would skip it!

    The people are wonderful but the maintenance and facilities of this KOA are one star.

    No AC in the restrooms. Grass up past our ankles (lawnmower was broken) It rained so, we woke up to having to pack up in the mud. We were placed in what appeared to be an overflow field that was full sun until after 5 pm.

    Not worth $65

    Kids did however really enjoy the pool.

    T Mobile service worked Perfect here.

    Clean and quiet.  Close to Lake Eufaula, downtown, restaurants, grocery, Walmart. Nice large community fire pit for evening gather, Grill pavilion. Did the monthly rate for hunting.
