Best Tent Camping near Fort Benning, GA

Spacious RV/tent sites and cabins surround lake. Clean and well maintained, beautiful trails.

Parked late one afternoon to get a driving break in road trip. Tent camping from dusk till dawn was peaceful. Lots of areas to climb though the trails.

Secluded and quiet, but 10 minutes from anything you forgot to bring. Ideal for RV'ing, this place is good for picnics, hiking, or just peaceful reflection. Tent camping is also available.

We tent camped on site 14 Spring 2017. Big campground with lots of lake front sites or views. Bath house was clean. Very relaxing and spacious sites that are spread out! We will be back!

Super well maintained tent sites. The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning. Established trash/food hang poles as well as picnic tables next to the fire ring with fold over grill capabilities.

We tent camped in February 2019 on site 47 right on Lake Eufaula! Bathhouse was clean. Most sites are either on the lake or have a view of the lake. Bring your fishing poles and boats, lots of activity on the water! We want to try sites 49, 50, 51, 60, 61, 92, 122...these are on our list as the best sites. We will be back!

I am rather new to tent camping so I really appreciated the helpful folks running the camping area.  Each spot had electricity, water, great internet, picnic table and places to build a fire.  Each site is shielded from the next by trees.  Bathrooms and showers are used but clean.  Clear maps available for hiking or biking.  Nice lake with swimming and boating.  Pet friendly.  Could not have asked for more or better.

Went tent camping for one night at FDR. It is very pretty. Great short or long hiking trails. They are challenging as there are some very steep parts. Walked around Lake Delanor with the kids. They had a ball. The campsites are close to each other. The whole campsite is not very big compared to others I have been to. Would not recommend a long camper here as it would be tight is some spots.

I stayed here in my NoBo 16.2 camper for almost 6 weeks waiting on a house. The site is clean. Cable, electric, water and sewer. The wifi has been out for a while. Tent sites and cabins also available. Lots of wildlife. If you're into C130s flying over due to being in close proximity to the US Army Airborne School, this is the place for you.

We stayed at tent site 63. Park is very well maintained. Camp hosts were especially accommodating and helped us get a great spot without reservations on Labor day weekend. Our site was right on the waterfront with plenty of firewood available in the surrounding woods. Not all bath houses have showers but they were all well maintained. We would definitely go again!

Nice hiking trails here. Mountain biking is also allowed on many of the trails. Trails are along the lake, along the creek, and in the woods. Trail map is well done and helpful. Easy to get to this state park that is not far from interstate hwy I-85 near Auburn, AL. Some pictures attached taken while hiking and sight seeing. Both RV camping and primitive tent camping can be done here. Cabins/cottages can also be rented.

Tent camped on site 611 with water and electric.Very close to clean showers. Showers have two private family rooms for added privacy. The 600 series sites appear to be new. Friends used full hookup, pull-through RV just across road. Many shady spots.

Lots of trails in park. President Roosevelt had favorite overlook in park which now has his statue. FDR Little White House and museum are very interesting and only a few minutes away in Warm Springs. Pine Mountain is pretty small town.

I started this camping trip by booking the campsite online, which was easy enough. Problem was that we arrived to the park after their business hours and weren't sure where to go or how to go about our business. Well when we got to the Welcome Center there was a piece of paper with my name on it acknowledging our reservation with instruction on what to do next, which I thought was great! When we got to the campsite there was hardly anyone there and the view was picturesque. It was on a lake surrounded by trees. The bathrooms and showers were clean, the campsites were well kept, the people were nice, and the area was gorgeous. Only two problems that we ran in to. One, the ground where we pitched our tent was like hard gravel, so make sure if you're tent camping to bring extra cushion. And two, we forgot to bring bug spray so we were almost literally eaten alive. Other than that it was a great experience and I would absolutely recommend the park and campsite! Don't forget to check out all the history surrounding the area and in the park. We got to check out Roosevelt's little white house, the hot springs pools that he went to, and an outlook area that he often went. Really cool area.

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Overall: Excellent campground with close access to the Chattahoochee River, access off AL State Rd 165. Second stay here so I will shorten this somewhat. Again, this time of year not crowded at all. I had my pick of lakefront sites, and chose one where I could hang my hammock between two trees. 

Getting there: Known as Bluff Creek Park on Google maps, it is located South of Fort Benning and Fort Mitchell in the most Eastern part of Alabama. 

Check in and staff: Check in was very easy and one can make advance reservations. Next time I will make them ahead of time on the website listed, but doing it by phone was easy. It just took more time than I wanted to spend. But then again, you have to know what site you want to do it ahead of time. 

Amenities: There is a boat launch site, a fish cleaning hut, and multiple bathroom facilities. Water and electric are present at each site. Bathrooms: clean, well kept. Laundry machines available. The showers had plenty of hot water and were clean. No mold or mildew. 

Site: I had site 79. It was right next door to where we stayed last time, and on the water. The site setup was the same. Very comfortable and a beautiful view of the lake.

Overall: Excellent campground with close access to the Chattahoochee River, access off AL State Rd 165. The sites are, for the most part, reasonably private with most sites being right on the water and have excellent views of Bluff Creek. Some of the campground areas were closed for the season as traffic falls off quite a bit in the Fall. Most of the campers had RVs, but there were one or two tents as well

We were allowed to take a quick tour to pick out a site, but did have to call the central number to pay by credit card once we had picked out a site. They have stopped putting up a note on each site and now simply issue a parking pass for your vehicle. I did have to go back to the gate to get that and while doing that the reservation was verified.  The staff were kind and very pleasant. 

Amenities: There is a boat launch site, a fish cleaning hut, and multiple bathroom facilities. Water and electric are present at each site. 

Bathrooms: clean, well kept. Laundry machines available. The showers had plenty of hot water and were clean. No mold or mildew. 

Site: We had site 81. It was right on the water. There was a good size picnic table and another square table at the site. The fire pit was out near the water and there was a stand up BBQ as well. Also provided was a hanging hook for provisions. The campground was very quiet, but in the evening one often heard the chimes of a RR crossing that is just outside the park entrance. The chimes& red flashing lights go on after dark when a car approaches the tracks to make sure that the driver stops and checks for train. There are occasional low flying airplanes due to the nearby military fort.

Mostly RV’s but two different open fields for tent-hammock camping. Potable water, small store and pool on the grounds. Quite campground.

This is one of my favorite Georgia State Parks. There are many sites to choose from and there are plenty of things to do in the area. This park is great for hikers -- lots of great trails. I went with my three kids and we all had a blast.
