At 9,049 acres, Georgia's largest state park is a hiker's and backpacker's haven. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. Above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob where President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to the overlook. Several park amenities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including cottages and the Liberty Bell Swimming Pool fed by cool springs. A wooded campground sits near the edge of a small fishing lake, and privately operated stables offer guided horseback rides. In 1921, FDR came to this part of Georgia to swim in naturally warm springs that offered relief from polio. The McIntosh Reserve Park is 527 acres packed with history, trails, a splash water park, pavilions, and sweeping frontage on the Chattahoochee River. The park is a favorite of hikers and equestrian riders. Park Hours McIntosh Reserve Park is open year round except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Park office hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. The park is open: 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. (Summer) 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. (Winter) Reservations Camping and pavilion reservations may be made by phone or in person Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Location McIntosh Reserve Park is located 35 miles southwest of Atlanta along the Chattahoochee River and can be reached by U.S. Alternative 27 from Carrollton or Newnan and Georgia Highway 5 from Douglasville. Direct access to the park is provided by a county-maintained road that connects with Georgia Highway 5 at 2 miles west of Whitesburg.
Conveniently located just south of Atlanta, 2 miles from I75 Jodeco RD Exit, restaurants, and shopping, enjoy 5+ acres of flat, private land bordering a large creek.
A dirt driveway off a quiet back road takes you to a secluded 120'x80' field perfect for tents, hammocks, and RVs. There's enough room for small to medium size RVs and travel trailers to pull through / turn around.
Continue down the path to the back of the property where it opens up to a 200+ year old oak tree and large creek.

This campground is first come, first serve. It is $15 dollars a night. Some of the sites are waterfront. There is a bathroom with a shower that was kept up with and stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. There is also a water spigot near the bathroom and electrical outlets in the bathroom.

Campground is 48 acres in size and consists of open field, rolling hills, and woods. Pitch your tent wherever you wish. Can drive right to your tent site. Plenty of open room in the field for dry RV camping. Gasoline, diesel, full grocery store, several restaurants, auto parts, and hardware store all within three miles.
We have two full hookup RV site available. For tent campers, two community 110 outlets for charging phones, etc. are available. A community water spigot is available for tent campers and dry RV campers.

54 acre working horse farm welcomes short stay boondockers. Pets available with pre approval. Quiet, beautiful acres with horses, ponies, goats, sheep, and chickens. Fire pit, bring your horse or book a ride on one of ours, 5 miles from Hard Labors State park with hiking, boating, mini golf etc. 15 minutes from Downtown Covington of Vampire Diaries fame. 10 minutes from Monroe’s antique shops. Do ALOT or nothing at all. You decide.

Equitopian Escape Farm is a 20+ acre private farm. The camping experience includes the opportunity to hang out with the horses and donkeys, and free ranging chickens. There are also walking trails and a narrow creek in the woods.
This is for primitive tent camping or if you are passing through with your RV, horse trailer, or other mobile camper there is plenty of parking and space to camp out and enjoy nature and the farm animals. there is an outhouse on the property.
There is no RV hook up or electricity available.

We’ve been told by many of our visitors that the Georgia International Horse Park is one of the best kept secrets that they have found with regard to RV parks east of Atlanta. The GIHP offers a full-service RV park for the convenience of our guests. Fully equipped with water, electric and sewer service, these 140+ sites are located near the Stable Complex and the Walker Arena Complex. Full-service shower facilities are also located within the RV Park and their use is included in the daily RV site rental fee. Guests planning to stay overnight in a RV for an event or show need to contact the event promoter directly for reservations. Individuals looking to overnight at the Horse Park, but not associated with a particular event, may contact our office directly. Due to limited capacity and show schedules, you must call in advance (770-860-4190) and reserve your space. Availability is determined by scheduled events. It was nice and warm even in December! Almost 70 degrees! Spot with a nice horse trail to hike - saw some deer and a mystery black animal, maybe a boar or a bear - unsure. Had a lot of neighbors on a weekday night - and a mystery trailer with no activity and no truck to pull it. Overall pretty easy gravel road to get to it, was a little buggy since it was humid and by the river but not too bad.
ScoutBeautiful campsite, just a few neighbors, tons of flat space and a few fire pits. There are hunters around and we heard a good deal of shots. Saw some deer on a walk. It was quite hot but surprisingly not that buggy.

We had some flubs with this campground. We put the wrong address in our GPS resulting in us arriving too late to use the pool. Then we neglected to pick up our paperwork and had to drive back to the main building to get it and we drove past the campground host on duty so we didn’t get firewood. Our campsite was pretty: flat, spacious, shaded with trees, but it was frustrating to drive past the even prettier spots right on the lake and realize that’s what I should have booked!! Several people were out enjoying evening fishing as we drove past to our more woodsy loop.
We were here all of 12 hours - it was a nice stopover on our route further south. Really quiet and absolutely spotless bathhouse! I really was bummed about not getting to the pool (it was not open the next day) - we will come back!
GuideI am getting back into camping for the first time in a very long time. Went to FDR State Park because it’s only about 30 minutes from home. Booking site 111 was easily done online. I arrived after the office had closed but my reservation sheet with instructions was left in a box on the door for me to pick up. Great park with nice lake for fishing, kayaking, paddle boating as well many hiking trails. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Visited Dowdell’s Knob which gives a fantastic view…no wonder it was FDR’s favorite picnicking site when visiting Warm Springs. I would definitely recommend and will be back, but next time will be spring or fall because summer was just too hot.
ScoutStayed in the 500 series camping area prior to Memorial Day Weekend for two nights. The staff at check in were extremely friendly and helpful. All camping/RV spots in 500 series were well spaced, the ones nearest the lake seem a little more congested. Easy to navigate with my Solis, but a large Class A or trailer would be challenging. The bathroom/shower facilities were some of the cleanest, well kept I’ve ever seen. Hiked to Cascade Falls with my wife and our two dogs (2 miles in/2 miles out). Will definitely go back.

CG Manager drove through periodically and was very friendly. I met him on the trail to the falls and took the time to explain the factory that used to be there. Very interesting. Most sites are on the water. Has toilets and showers. I stayed for 3 nights and had a great time.

We arrived late at night and didn’t see how to pay for the campground so we just set up but the next morning, the campground manager, Raymond, stopped by to welcome us and take our payment. He was very nice and helpful, keeping up with the grounds and the bathroom, and answering any questions we had.
We lucked out and got a waterfront site (site 4) due to the fact somebody checked out early. We had a happy little bonus of getting to watch the beavers play in the river early in the morning. Each of the sites have a raised gravel platform for tents, a grill, trash can, and a fire pit.
The campground was full on Saturday when we arrived but cleared out during the week.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back if we ever come back to the area.

On a final note: this campground is definitely set up for primitive camping, focusing more on tents. We have a 10 foot trailer. We were able to back in to our spot with no problem. The site was not level but that wasn’t a big deal for us in our rooftop tent. We didn’t check out the other sites but an RV would probably have a hard time setting up here.

TravelerSuch a great campsite for very cheap. They have many water front campsites with a lot of room. They have a box platform for your tent. It could easily fit my 8 person tent. They have fire pits and a main bath house with a shower. I will say that you should probably bring flipflops for the shower because it doesn't look like it's been cleaned in a year but it's nice having a option for one. That was the only downside to the property but it's only 15 dollars a night so I can't really complain

Small, family owned campground in a rural area has a comforting, relaxing atmosphere where you feel like family. We are first time RVers and were nervous about our Shakedown trip. Rob and Matt walked my husband through every step with “insider” tips. Mindy was so welcoming and gave me lots of good ideas while the guys set up. She is also the best hostess organizing food, fun, and friendship by the pool. We will definitely be back!!!

LegendThis is a large park with many loops and sites. There are many good trails in this area. Most sites were large with plenty of extra space. Some sites had decks overlooking the pond. Many were pull through.
