Best RV Parks & Resorts near Fayetteville, GA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks operate near Fayetteville, Georgia with varied amenities and site conditions. Atlanta South RV Resort in McDonough provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections year-round. The resort includes a pool, shower facilities, and accommodates big rigs on gravel sites. South Oaks RV & Mobile Home Park in Palmetto offers basic monthly RV sites with electric, water and sewer hookups but lacks amenities like showers or a dump station. Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve in Austell features pull-through sites with full hookups including 50-amp service. "Sites are a little close, but it's big rig friendly, and so is the staff."

Many parks in the region cater primarily to long-term residents rather than overnight travelers. Monthly rates at South Oaks range from $700-750 depending on electrical service. Navigation to some parks can be challenging due to construction or outdated GPS directions. According to one visitor, "Be careful with navigation, construction seems to have changed how to get there. Simple but clean. Gravel sites." Most RV parks accept pets and offer trash service. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area. Several parks report issues with site leveling, with gravel pads that may require blocks. While Atlanta South maintains clean facilities and a laundry room, South Oaks has received criticism for poor maintenance and unreliable utilities.

    3 Creeks Campground

    Quiet for the most part

I stayed at 3 Creeks for a week as a dry run with a new Class A motorhome. The sites were not too close together, so that is a plus. A lot of full time residents, but mostly a quiet in-the-woods location. They have a mini water park, so expect some playtime noises during operation hours. Full hookups with 50 amp service and friendly hosts. Pet friendly, though most people do not clean up after their fur children.

    Winding Waters RV Resort

    More vacation than camping

Winding Waters is a new, huge, and beautiful RV resort. This is not a campground, but a resort-style RV park with no shortage of amenities and activities. Nightly rate is very reasonable for all the bells and whistles you get. If you are just looking for a cheap, relaxing overnight with no frills, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a fun family vacation spot to bring the kids, look no further.

Just outside Atlanta, the location is prime and beautiful, along the Etowah river. You can fish, kayak, or just relax. There is no shortage of activities for children. The resort's pool is a huge beach-style pool with a hot tub and even a huge waterslide. There is a large playground and huge dog run. They have a large clubhouse and ball courts.

We booked one of their cheaper sites, a classic pull-thru site. To say the least, it was the TIGHTEST pull thru site we have ever booked. We have never had to adjust and shimmy around in a pull thru site before, the whole point is to pull in once and bam you're set up. We could barely even squeeze our tow vehicle (10ft bed dually) into the designated parking spot without sticking out. Even the back in sites would have been a little more roomy. But hey, for all the amenities (that we didn't even use since we were just stopping over for a night) the price isn't awful. For a bit more, you can get your own private dog run or patio furniture.

We were pretty overwhelmed with the sheer amount of RVs in this place. Mostly all big rigs too. It was packed and they have so many sites. So many kids running around, and our neighbor's dog was off leash and ran over to my dog when I tried to take him potty. There are no walking paths in the resort, so people (and kids) are forced to run around on the streets, which are pretty narrow, winding, and uncomfortable to drive a big rig on. Just in general A LOT going on, very busy place. Great place if you like resort style parks, but not fun for an overnight. Since it's new there's no shade at all, so I can't imagine how hot it is in the summer and with all the big rigs blasting their a/c, they may run into electrical issues. But they planted some trees which should alleviate that a bit.

The rules list is pretty strict and extensive, with a bunch of extra fees for weird things like early check-in and personal golf carts. Make sure you read through everything thoroughly before you book. Some rules might be deal breakers for some people. Staff was very kind to us and we wish them the best with their new RV resort!

COE Allatoona Lake Old Highway 41 No 3 Campground

    Noisy

Old Hwy 41 No 3 Campground is a COE campground on Lake Allatoona, about an hour North of Atlanta. The campground is only open May till September. There are about 50 sites, most had water and 30/50 amp electricity, a few with sewer. There are some lake front sites that appear larger, and are more expensive. Basic water/electric sites are $28/night, full hook-ups are $36, Lakefront are $64/night. Fire rings, picnic tables are provided, a playground and a bathroom/shower building. There is a laundry room, Also a dump station. They only allow 2 pets per site. This is a boating/fishing campground so there is a boat ramp. It is close to I-75 and US 41, but it is in the woods, so some of the highway noise is muffled, only some! There is also an entrance station which provides some security! The gate is open from 7 AM until 10:30 PM. NO ONE gets in after hours!

Red Top Mountain State Park Campground

First time visiting & it won’t be our last

We’ve been wanting to camp here for a while, but every time we decided to go, it’s been all booked up.... that might have been our fault though, because we like to plan last min trips. 🙂 This time we actually planned it out a few weeks in advance and got a nice spot.

I really liked the booking process, because it shows you exactly what spot is available and it even shows you a pic of the site you’ll be getting. Our site was only $35 a night + a $5 parking pass.

The campground has a lot to offer! It has a boat access point, fishing, walking and biking trails, a small putt putt course, playground area for the kids and best of all it’s pet friendly! I can’t go without saying the employees are so friendly and helpful!

Campsite wise, it has electric, water, cable, a huge picnic table & a grill/fire pit. The only negative was it wasn’t a full hookup. 😔Something else that I really loved was all of the huge natural rocks located all throughout the campground. Each campsite seemed to have their own collection of rocks and it really added to the experience. Another plus is that it has a dump station right at the exit, so on your way out you can take care of your last minute steps to finish up your camping experience. 😁

If you’re in the area I would highly recommend this campground! You can’t go wrong!

    Clark Creek North Campground

    Great Find Great Service

This county campground takes the America the Beautiful Pass or an ADA Accessibility Pass, but you will need to call the office at 770-607-6245 to add the pass to your account for the discount before making reservations. If you are a big rig, it would be wise to call the office and have them assist you in choosing a site that will accommodate a larger rig. Our RV GPS and Waze brought us right to the campground (CG). There is also signage to verify that you are going the right way until you see the CG entrance. We pulled into the gate area and were checked in by the attendant on duty. During the process, she wanted to be sure how to navigate the CG to pull through site 16 with water and electric(50/30/20 AMP) due to the size of our rig. After confirming with her husband the best route, we drove to the site going through a small one-way road, which was no issue. As our rig is 40', we needed to watch the trees on a couple of corner turns and then pull down into our site. We got the rig into the levelist position possible to get our rig’s steps down to an assessable position and fairly level, but we did need to add levelers to our steps and the passenger-side tires. Other than that, it’s a great site with a deck, patio, stand-up BBQ, picnic table, and fire pit overlooking the lake. We were told, and noticed, that all the sites in this quaint little county park have a water view. The water pressure was good at around 55 psi and we got 1 bar on Verizon. There are a lot of mature trees here, but we were able to get a clear north sky shot for Starlink. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the restroom/shower house had a fairly new washer($3) and dryer($2) that only took credit cards. They have an interesting dump station set up where you climb a fairly steep hill. This station would be good for shorter rigs. On our 40’ Brinkley with two black tanks, getting the back tank would be at a downhill angle and we believe we would scraped going up the slope. We had to stay a couple of extra days to get our truck fixed and the attendants were more than accommodating. This is a nice park, especially for fishermen and we enjoyed our time here.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Beautiful

The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Falls

Went to High Falls State Park in January. site number 27. We stayed 8 nights There are two campgrounds- lakeside and River camping area. Lakeside is by High falls Lake and is closest to the falls. River camping is across the street we stayed in River camping area. Nice sites but open to neighbors. Sites included table, fire ring, lantern hook. Some sites are 30 amp some 50 amp and had some pull through sites. After the weekend we were one of only a few in the campground in January. Weather may change this time of year we had a lot of rain one day and freezing temperatures overnight but mostly it was good camping weather. Camp hosts were awesome!!! This park is not far off i-75. Dollar general was a few miles other than that not much around. Very easy hiking trail to waterfalls and several trails along Towaliga River, ruins of an old Mill. There is no swimming in falls or river. Afterr rain falls were flowing very fast. This park also has a swimming pool, mini golf, yurts, boat rentals all were closed in January. Bathhouses were well maintained and had laundry facilities. Phone and TV reception we're good at this park. 8 days was too much here I would recommend 4 to 5 days or as a stopover point but would definitely return here.

Guide to Fayetteville

RV campgrounds near Fayetteville, Georgia range from basic lots with utilities to more developed resorts. Located in Fayette County, about 22 miles south of Atlanta, this area experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters where freezing temperatures are rare. Most campgrounds in the region are situated on level terrain with gravel pads, and many cater to long-term stays rather than weekend travelers.

What to do

Explore Stone Mountain Park: Just 36 miles northeast of Fayetteville, Stone Mountain Park Campground offers extensive recreation opportunities. "There's all kind of activities for the kids. They have free transportation within the park/campground area. Helpful staff too," notes Harvey B., who visited Stone Mountain Park Campground.

Visit Callaway Gardens: Located about an hour southwest of Fayetteville, Pine Mountain is a popular destination. "We were in town for Callaway Gardens pumpkin event. We will definitely stay here again. Couldn't have been happier honestly," says Hunter K. who stayed at Pine Mountain RV Resort.

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds in the area provide lake access for fishing. "My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site," reports Susan K. about her stay at Stone Mountain Park Campground.

What campers like

Convenient location: Many visitors appreciate the proximity to Atlanta while still enjoying outdoor spaces. "This park is located just south of Atlanta and is a great place to overnight on your way to a destination, or for more long term stay for out of town workers," shares Benita P. who stayed at Atlanta South RV Resort.

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high on camper preferences. "Very clean level site, shaded well, the staff helped me secure a site over the phone," notes David K. about Atlanta South RV Resort.

Pool amenities: Swimming pools are valued amenities during hot Georgia summers. "Wi-Fi works great, pool was clean and good size. 1 bathhouse but it was well maintained," states Kara A., who enjoyed Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve.

What you should know

Reservation policies: Some rv campgrounds near Fayetteville, Georgia require full payment upfront. "There is only one thing I find as a negative. There new policy of full (non-refundable) payment is now required when you make your reservation. Unless you want to pay an up charge for your nightly rate," explains Larry M. about Pine Mountain RV Resort.

Site leveling challenges: Multiple campgrounds report uneven sites. "The sites here are a little close, but it's big rig friendly, and so is the staff," states Jason E. who stayed at Atlanta South RV Resort.

Long-term resident focus: Many RV parks in the area primarily serve permanent or seasonal residents. "Just called the park they are no longer nightly or weekly they only do long-term," reports Tammy T. about South Oaks RV & Mobile Home Park.

Tips for camping with families

Choose campgrounds with playgrounds: Some sites offer dedicated play areas for children. "There is a dog pen area, there are dog waste bag stations. There is a laundry room, bathhouse, and every site has water and sewer hook up," notes Corey G. from Riverside Estates RV Park.

Consider sites with grass space: Some campers recommend requesting sites with more open areas. "We stayed in site 185. While it was one of the more expensive sites in the park it was well worth it. The nice lady that answered the phone made the recommendation when I told her I'd like somewhere for my kids to run."

Look for campgrounds with security features: Some parks offer extra safety measures. "It is gated and there is a fob for everything for safety. It is a great place the manager here is awesome," reports a Riverside Estates RV Park visitor.

Tips from RVers

Check hookup specifications: Verify that electrical service meets your needs. "30 amp circuit was not adequate. The breaker continually tripped while using small kitchen appliances," warns Brittany from Pine Mountain RV Resort.

Navigation challenges: Some RV parks can be difficult to find with standard GPS. "Be careful with navigation, construction seems to have changed how to get there," advises a Atlanta-Marietta RV Park visitor.

Proximity to shopping: Many campgrounds offer convenient access to stores. "The location is in a good spot right off the free way. It is clean. This area is not known for crime and is located close to a main shopping center," shares Kay M. about Atlanta South RV Resort.
