Stone Mountain Park Campground offers cabins with lakeside views just 16 miles east of Decatur. Cabin sites include full hookups with water, electric, and sewer connections. Each site features a deck, picnic table, grill with propane tank, and fire pit. "The camp store has reasonable prices for fire wood and ice," notes one visitor. Atlanta Alpaca Treehouse provides a unique cabin experience within a bamboo forest, featuring comfortable beds and necessary amenities. RamsdenLake in Stone Mountain also offers cabin accommodations, though with fewer standard amenities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Stone Mountain Park cabins remain open year-round, while other properties may have seasonal availability. Tiny Cabin in the region provides a more intimate setting with electric hookups, running water, showers, and toilets. Several properties are pet-friendly, though the Atlanta Alpaca Treehouse prohibits pets. Reservations are essential, particularly for lakefront cabins which are highly sought after. A review mentioned, "We had a great weekend getaway here. We reserved an Orange Site overlooking the lake and highly recommend it."

Most cabins include basic furniture but guests should verify what linens and cooking supplies are provided. At Stone Mountain, each site includes propane grills, though cooking arrangements vary by property. The Atlanta South RV Resort includes market access for basic supplies. Firewood is available for purchase at multiple cabin locations. Visitors staying at Stone Mountain Park should be aware of the additional $20 parking fee required to enter the park grounds. Those planning extended stays may want to use the laundry facilities available at certain campgrounds like Indian Springs State Park.

      Indian Springs State Park Campground

This was our first trip here and it was beautiful! We loved biking all over the park. We loved sitting by the falls. Would’ve loved to go in the museum, but it wasn’t open when we were there (very limited days/hours).

-Camp hosts were absolutely wonderful! They were a pleasure to talk with. The friendliest group ever!!

      -Bath house was extremely clean.

-We stayed in the newer section.

-Definitely make your way to the Stone Pavilion and sample the natural artesian spring water. It’s not something I’d want a lot, but when in Rome…🤣

      Stone Mountain Park Campground

Welcome center is nice, but the roads and asphalt sites are crumbling. We had a back in site that was fairly level. No real privacy from neighboring sites.

Beautiful views with lake front camping

Campsite was the perfect lake front spot for our dog’s last camping adventure with us. The resort felt super safe for 2 females traveling with their dog and all campsites and bathrooms were super clean.

      Fort Yargo State Park Campground

      Lakefront Overlook

We stayed at Site #45, and it quickly became one of our favorite campsites because it felt more like a wooded overlook, perched above the lake. The breeze coming off the water kept us comfortable enough to enjoy a campfire even on a hot August evening.

The site fit our 14x10 tent comfortably, but I wouldn’t recommend anything larger. There isn’t a true tent pad, and you’ll notice the slope while sleeping—but the view from inside the tent was priceless. We experienced a four-hour thunderstorm and didn’t have any standing water at our site afterward.

⚠️ The slope becomes much steeper near the shoreline, so I wouldn’t recommend this site for toddlers or anyone with mobility concerns.

🛝 Our 7-year-old loved fishing from the shoreline and thought the steep slope made the perfect slide to get back down to the water. Built-in slide + dirty shorts = happy camper. 😂

🔥 The site includes a clean fire ring with an adjustable cooking grate and a separate standing charcoal grill.

🦟 We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes during our stay.

🚰 The shared water pump wasn’t working during our visit.

🚽 The bathhouse was spacious, clean, and only a short walk away.

🚗 A community wagon is parked near the bathhouse for campers to use when hauling gear between their vehicle and campsite. Loved that!

      A few tips:

🪵 The Visitor Center sells $6 bundles of firewood and has a nice selection of souvenirs.

🐜 Plenty of flies and large ants, so keep your food put away and your tent zipped.

🪲 Cicadas were loud at night. I loved it, but our 7-year-old slept with his wireless headphones on. If you’re a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs if you’re camping here June-August.

🎣 We caught more bluegill fishing from our campsite than we did from the fishing dock.

🌅 If you’re looking for one of the best views in the campground and don’t mind sleeping on a slight incline, Site #45 is well worth considering.

      Winding Waters RV Resort

A Good Choice for Big Rigs Near Marietta

We stayed at Winding Waters Riverfront RV Resort for four nights after picking up our new 5th wheel toy hauler from Three Way Campers in Marietta to thoroughly test all of the RV's systems while remaining close to the dealership if any issues arose. We followed the emailed arrival instructions, checked in quickly, and were escorted to pull-through Site 89 with full hookups. The staff was friendly, service-oriented, and very accommodating throughout our stay. We spent our first night in the pull-through before moving to a river-view back-in site. The staff initially suggested Site 190, but after we noticed it had very little yard space, they happily moved us to Site 193, which better suited our needs. The resort offers several unsecured Wi-Fi networks; we selected the strongest signal and averaged 82 Mbps download and 9 Mbps upload. We received two bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile, and our T-Mobile Home Internet worked well. We didn't bring Starlink on this trip, but with very few trees throughout the main campground, it should perform well in most sites. The pull-through sites are better spaced than many campgrounds of this type, although we still wouldn't describe them as spacious. We appreciated the PVC chairs and round tables found at many sites instead of the typical picnic table, and there are five"Paw Pen" pull-through sites with private fenced pet areas. The nearby dog park consists of two small fenced runs that are adequate for potty breaks but not really large enough to throw a ball. Although the water park and numerous family-oriented amenities are not typically what we look for in a campground, Winding Waters was an excellent place to shake down our new rig.

Red Top Mountain State Park Campground

      Beautiful Place

I stayed at the walk- in campsites with waterfront view and access to walk down to the water. There is no electric at site and water didn’t work. The bathroom facilities are well maintained and whole place is really clean. This site was right next to parking other 3 are close but wagon recommended to haul items to other walk on sites.

    Guide to Decatur

Cabin camping near Decatur, Georgia offers convenient access to outdoor recreation while maintaining proximity to urban amenities. Located in the Piedmont region with elevations between 900-1,100 feet, the area experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters, making year-round cabin camping possible. Several parks within a 30-mile radius provide various lodging options from basic cabins to fully equipped cottages.

    What to Do

Hiking trails: At Fort Yargo State Park Campground, visitors find well-maintained paths for all skill levels. "Beautiful sites that are somewhat private. Lots to do close by in the day time (biking, hiking, fishing, swimming..)" notes Jessica D. The park features multiple trail loops around a 260-acre lake.

Paddle sports: Lake activities abound at cabin locations. "My husband and son enjoyed fishing and paddle boarding right behind our site," reports Susan K. about her stay at Stone Mountain Park. Many cabin properties offer rentals for kayaks and paddleboards directly on-site.

Wildlife viewing: Cabin stays often include natural encounters. "While hiking we saw a lot of beautiful wildlife," shares Jennifer T. The wooded settings around many cabins create opportunities for deer sightings and birdwatching, particularly during early morning hours.

    What Campers Like

Spacious sites: Indian Springs State Park Campground receives praise for its layout. "Very nice park. Very clean. Beautiful site. Large backing with plenty of room on all sides," explains Lauren W. Site spacing enhances privacy between cabins.

Clean facilities: Bathroom access remains important even when staying in cabins. "The shower house was a little dirty, so that's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5," mentions Tonya B. about Stone Mountain Park, indicating high expectations for facility cleanliness.

Variety of activities: The region's parks offer diverse recreation. "The campground offers everything you would ever need. There are tons of things to do from Golf, hiking, zoo, laser show, food and you can hike the mountain or take a ride to the top," writes Holly B. Most cabin locations include multiple activity options within walking distance.

    What You Should Know

Reservation requirements: Cabin bookings require advance planning. "We came here on an overnight stay one time and came back because we liked it so much," shares Larry M. about Indian Springs State Park. Weekend reservations often fill months ahead, especially during summer.

Water quality varies: Some locations have mineral-rich water. "There was some sediment in the water from the spigot and it seemed to have a bit of a chlorine taste. I would suggest bring your own water or a water filter," advises Karen C.

Noise considerations: Despite natural settings, some locations experience noise. "You will hear I-75 traffic all night so keep in mind, that while it looks like country, you are not deep in nature... the drone of the highway will remind you," warns Jeff E. about his camping experience.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Bathroom proximity: Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground offers family-friendly accommodations. "We grabbed site 43 because it is close to the bath house but very private," recommends George & Patty C. When booking cabins with children, check distance to restrooms.

Guided activities: Many parks offer structured programs. "The Jr ranger program still going with the help of adult campers during covid. Still so much fun and so clean and beautiful!!" reports Cheryl C. These programs provide educational entertainment for children while parents set up camp.
