With 12 sites managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, Earl May Boat Basin requires advance online reservations and operates with 24/7 camp hosts. The city reopened this campground in spring 2024 after complete renovations, creating a mix of three wide back-in sites and eight pull-through sites on gravel pads with a paved loop road.
All sites include electric hookups with 50/30/20/15 amp service plus water connections, and a level dump station serves registered guests. Most sites sit among live oak trees and pines along the Flint River, with some positioned directly beside the water. The facility includes an upgraded bathhouse and individual fire rings, picnic tables, and standing grills at each site. Sites 7, 8, and 12 provide the most open sky for satellite internet users.
A two-mile paved walking trail connects the campground entrance to downtown Bainbridge, while additional nature trails offer three to five-mile loops through old-growth forest. Luise C. notes that "all trails are basically flat." The 300-acre boat basin attracts fishing enthusiasts to what locals call the Bass Fishing Capitol of Georgia.
The campground accommodates big rigs easily and allows pets. Major stores and restaurants lie within two to three miles, making this a convenient base for exploring places to camp around Bainbridge or attending the area's frequent festivals and concerts.
