Madison RV Resort and Golf Course

    Great Experience with Possible Twists

If coming in from the east/Tallahassee on I-10, avoid Exit 241 (Madison/Greenville). Approaching from US-90 requires sharp right turns to reach the campground( CG). Instead, take Exit 251 for an easier left turn onto the CG road. This was our sixth year staying at the resort, and check-in at the office remained the same under the new ownership. After checking in, we proceeded to back-in buddy site 60A with full hookups to meet friends in site 60. One change involved the golf process, as we needed to go to the golf course clubhouse to pay for a golf package, then return to the office to pick up a golf cart. Water pressure was acceptable at around 40 psi. Cell service showed 3 bars on T-Mobile and 2 bars on Verizon. CG Wi-Fi was on the slower side with download speeds around 7 Mbps, so we relied on T-Mobile Home Internet, which consistently delivered speeds in the 200 Mbps range. The CG has relatively few trees, so satellite service was not an issue. The local Winn-Dixie has closed, leaving Bob& Jim’s Market as the primary grocery option in town, with Dollar General carrying a limited selection of basics. Prices at Bob& Jim’s were on the higher side. An Aldi was renovating the former Winn-Dixie building during our stay and was expected to open in about six months. For broader shopping and services, the nearest major amenities are in Live Oak, about 30 miles away. During our two-month stay, we learned that the new ownership planned to renovate the golf course and facilities into an executive 9-hole course, with construction scheduled to begin April 14, 2026, and a projected reopening in the fall or winter timeframe. Plans also included removing the first two holes near the entrance to add additional RV sites, bringing the total site count to around 200. Based on our experience, we plan to return again next year.

    Newport Park Campground

    Short visit, didn’t stay overnight

Was actually at the spot geocaching, but really like the look of this little campground. And I mean little.

There’s a combination of electric hook ups and non-electric hook ups. It’s all very well kept and clean and organized.

Favoring this one for potential return to actually camp at. Gave this one 4 to 5 stars which is above average for me. But I’ve earned a fifth star if it wasn’t so close to the road with road noise and had been staffed full-time, and had a few more amenities.

High Bluff Campground — Joe Budd WMA and Lake Talquin State Forest

    Nice, very simple

This was a quick overnight stay for myself. I arrived a little bit after sunset and left fairly early in the morning.

Stayed at site number 18, which was Lakeside, but all campsites have decent view of lake through the trees. There is a dock and she can walk down to the water itself.

This is a very isolated place, and you have to drive down a dirt road, but very packed, which even sedans can handle no problem, unless it’s been raining that it might get a little slippery

When I stayed, it was 34° so didn’t do a whole lot but get set up in the rooftop tent and sleep. No real issues with Internet, for Verizon, but signal wasn’t super strong.

There is a toilet bathroom that is composting style, without sinks or showers.

But I booked I thought it said electrical, but after I booked, it said no electrical and when I arrived on site, there was a electrical pedestal, looked brand new, but not working. Unknown if they will soon have electricity or not ever used.

For its isolation and quietness and availability, I would definitely return. I don’t have a lot in this area to attend to, but this is a nice spot.

Star count is only down, ranked due to lack of electricity and water, as well as the slightly difficult drive in. That’s a plus for some people, but that’s how I do my star rankings.

    Tallahassee RV Park

    Just don’t need to cancel!!

We had reservations for one night. We were 1 1/2 hour from there and the airbag blew out on our motorhome. We luckily were by a freightliner dealer and they could put a new one on while we waited and we would have made it there. But unfortunately they had to order the part and while the part would be there that night they closed at 6. So we were stuck in place. I called the campground at 2:30 to let them know we wouldn’t make it while they still had time to rent out the space. But I noticed today my credit card got hit for $72 anyway. I understand people cancel for all kinds of reasons but mechanical isn’t something you can control. We had to stay the night at the freightliner place and didn’t leave there until 11:30 am and now have a 5 hour drive to Gulf Shores where we have reservations for 2 nights then onto Gulfport to get the AC fixed for a week and have to be in CA March 1, so it interrupted our plans too. I’d like to personally thank the kindness that the manager displayed by charging us a night that we weren’t there. Nothing like kicking you while you’re down. So just FYI- if you have a reservation and you die prior to checking in, your estate will be dinged!

    Buckhorn Hunt Camp

Good for an overnight, easy to Tallahassee

Open area with Pine trees around. Lots of camping trailers here. Heavily used by hunters. When I pulled in, I saw a deer being processed at the edge of the camping area. 2-3 bars ATT 5g. Portapoties are here. No trash recpectial that I could find. There are lots of hunting dog kennels around the edge of camping area. Clean and level. If here during hunting season, be comfortable with hunting culture. Several dogs roaming area. Roads in were sand/dirt. Some had deep ruts but could be navigated around. From all the trailers here, towing 5th wheel in is doable. Given all the action here, it is good for a night...but I wouldn't stay several days.

    Bainbridge Riverview Campground Bainbridge Georgia

Nestled along the Flint River with canopy of Live Oaks, peaceful trails ++

Disclaimer: we are current Camp Hosts at this city-owned campground in the Earle May Boat Basin Park. The city has totally redone this small, quiet campground and reopened it in Spring 2024.

There are 12 sites, 1 is reserved for Camp Hosts who are onsite 24/7. Sites are gravel, loop road is paved. 3 of the 11 available sites are wide back ins, the rest are very long pull through style. Most sites are nestled among the grove of live oak trees and pines that canopy the peaceful setting along the Flint River. All sites have electric(50/30/20/15) and water. There is an easy, level dump station for camping guest use only. The registered camping guests bath house is an older style but has also seen some upgrades.

A 2 mile riverfront paved walking trail takes you from the campground entrance into the historic downtown center filled with restaurants, breweries, boutiques, antique shops and cafes. Another nature trail loop at the CG entry has options for 3 to 5+ miles through dense old growth forest or around the boat basin itself.. All trails are basically flat and paved.

The campground also sits within the 300 acres Earle May Boat Basin, ideal for fishing enthusiasts. There is a small playscape in the campground and another laeger playgeound in the park which is walkable from the campground. Bainbridge is known as the Bass Fishing Capitol of Georgia! Each campsite also has a long picnic table, standing BBq grill and fire ring. Sites are wide. Sites 7, 8 and 12 are best for Starlink users as they have more open sky. Advance reservations are suggested and all reservations must be done BEFORE entering campground. It is no longer first come first served and reservation can ONLY be done online. Camp hosts do not have ability to make or change reservations or accept payment. Bainbridge has many festivals, concerts and special events all year long. Major big box stores, hardware stores, gas stations and grocery stores are within 2-3 miles of the campground. Rates in 2025 are $35 per night, currently no discounts offered. Max say length is 2 weeks. Campground is big rig friendly but loop road is narrow in some places so go slow!

Guide to Thomasville

Reed Bingham State Park Campground sits about 35 miles from Thomasville in south Georgia's coastal plain region. The area features diverse ecosystems ranging from pine forests to wetlands, with elevations typically below 300 feet. Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making this region suitable for year-round camping with spring and fall offering the most comfortable weather conditions.

What to do

Paddle the lake: At Reed Bingham State Park Campground, the 375-acre lake connects to Little River, offering excellent paddling opportunities. "The lake also connects to little river and it is a @ 3 hour leisurely up river paddle to Red Robin Boat ramp in Adel Georgia," notes reviewer Travyl Couple.

Bike the trails: The park's multi-use trails provide options for cyclists of all levels. "We also enjoyed biking to the Horse creek winery in Sparks, Ga just 7 miles away," shares a reviewer, highlighting off-site adventures accessible from the campground.

Wildlife spotting: Look for gopher tortoises, alligators, and seasonal birds. "Home to gopher turtles, alligators, deer and seasonal home to vultures and bald eagles makes wildlife spotting fun," according to one camper who enjoyed the diverse fauna.

What campers like

Pull-through convenience: Many sites at A Stone's Throw RV Park are designed for easy access. "All the sites are pull-through making late arrival less stressful. All sites have full hookups and there is wifi," writes David A., noting the practical layout for travelers.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained amenities. "Very clean, quiet, and definitely going back!" writes Lauren W. about Reed Bingham State Park, while another reviewer adds, "Bathhouse is nice, washers (1) was inop. It's a year round CG."

Pet-friendly areas: Many campgrounds accommodate four-legged companions. "A dog run and nice big mowed field were available for our dogs," mentions a reviewer at A Stones Throw Lamont, Florida, highlighting dedicated pet spaces.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons. "Many people book these sites weeks ahead since they fill up fast," particularly for weekend stays.

Highway noise considerations: Some campgrounds near major roads may experience traffic sounds. "This park is literally 1/4 mile off of I-10 (you hear the traffic, which did not bother us)," notes andrew at A Stones Throw Lamont.

Variable site sizes: At Tallahassee RV Park, a reviewer cautions, "Sites are close together. We have a tiny trailer but sites are full hook up and can fit larger rigs." Always confirm your rig will fit before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Cross Creek Campground offers recreational spaces for children. "There is a nice open area that families were enjoying when we arrived," notes Dave K., mentioning the family-friendly layout.

Swimming options: Reed Bingham State Park has designated swimming areas. "The beach for swimming is more of a wading beach and since I have seen the alligators in this lake i do not recommend swimming anywhere else on your own," cautions a reviewer, emphasizing safety.

Recreational activities: Many campgrounds offer additional entertainment. "There is a miniture golf and playground within sight of the campground. Good place to get together with family and friends," writes Roger W. about Reed Bingham State Park.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling preparation: Be prepared to adjust your rig at some locations. "The site we stayed in was level left and right but had to lower the front end to level front to back," shares Dave K. about Cross Creek Campground.

Utility connections: Full hookups are available at several campgrounds near Thomasville. "Site was level with full hookups right off the freeway," notes David E. about A Stones Throw in Lamont.

Parking considerations: Some sites have limited space for both RVs and tow vehicles. "Not sure where we would have parked if it had been filled with a regular sized RV. Our camper is 42' and it took up the entire space," mentions Douglas T. at Sugar Mill Plantation RV Park, highlighting space limitations.
