DeeJaysEscapades Camping Review

Wow.... we loved this place. Everything from hot showers and clean bathrooms to water and electric at your site (if you want it.) Bring your animals, our dog had a great time. Pay attention to park hours and don't arrive after closing. Note, most sites will not offer beach style walk in access to the lake due to the park being higher in elevation with more cliff like edges down towards the lake surrounding it. If you don't mind a 45 degree downward, then back up, wooded leaf covered short hike to the lake you can find plenty of beautiful sandy/rocky coves to swim and play in 😉! Staff was friendly and very helpful. It is VERY quiet after 900pm ish and also in the early mornings. Easy short drive to a few local towns, Ellijay, Jasper, Chatsworth etc. and all things Carters Lake (Marina, beaches, nature center, etc..) We loved our stay and will come back. BTW...space 45 was awesome if you are tent camping. Electric, water, space, privacy, path down to water, and great views of the water!

It's hard to beat Carter's Lake

The Doll Mountain campground sits along side Carters Lake in North Georgia. It is an Army Corp of engineer's lake and has no homes along it's banks. It's a great place to get out into nature. Go fishing, kayaking, or both and enjoy the beautiful clean water and mountain views.

In northern Georgia

Great camping in the mountains of north Georgia. Clean sites, not crowded. FHU’s and level. Not many sites with water access. Great area for motorcycle rides. Not far from the Tail of the Dragon.

Beautiful campground getaway

Had the pleasure of spending a weekend here with my girlfriend and dog a few weeks back. Our site was on it's own, separated from the other groups of sites. It was fantastic, the views of the lake were great, and kayaking on the lake was a great time as well!

The park manager/attendants were very friendly and stopped bye on the first and last day and asked if we needed any help with anything and gave us tips about the raccoons (which left us alone for the most part.)

We'll be making trips back here in the near future!

Lovely views and great lake swimming

We had 3 couples who spent the long weekend for 4th of July (2016) on two sites in the walk-in tent camping area. There are (non-flush) potties at the tent camping area, but if you're grossed out by those, it's a couple of minutes drive to the closest bath house. The bath house was very satisfactory and pretty clean, plus plenty of hot water. There's a (steep!) trail from the tent camping area down to the lake with some good places for swimming. It would probably be tough to walk a kayak down to the water from tent sites, though. We found the gravel tent pads well maintained and clean.

The location near Ellijay is great. We visited a couple of area wineries, and there's a fun mountain bike trail at Woodring Branch rec area (directly across the lake from Doll Mtn. Campground, but no direct route to get there, so it's about a 45 minute drive.)

perfect for kayaking

Camped at Doll Mountain on Carters Lake again this past weekend. Perfect weather and a great trip. The lake is not developed and very quiet so perfect for kayaking.

My Review

Nice, quite and close to Atlanta. Many sites on the lake but the shoreline is steep.
