Sugarloaf Key/Key West KOA Resort

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sitting on the water along the lower Florida Keys, about 27 miles northeast of Key West, Sugarloaf Key/Key West KOA Resort operates as a full-service RV and camping resort on Sugarloaf Key with direct water access, boat docking, and a marina. The campground was heavily damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017 and has since been rebuilt, so facilities throughout the property are relatively new. Some construction was still ongoing as of late 2023, though the core infrastructure is operational.

Sites are wide, with gravel drives and full hookups including water, electric, sewer, WiFi, and cable TV. Most sites have some shrubbery providing a degree of privacy between neighbors. The property runs open in overall terrain, so shade varies. On-site amenities include a pool, hot tub, hammock area, private beach, kayak launch, boat ramp, small dog park, laundry, and a bar and grill with live music on weekends. One reviewer noted the music continued until around 9:30 to 10 p.m., which is worth factoring in if you're a light sleeper. Golf cart rentals are available, though the resort is compact enough to walk.

Rates start at $160 per night with a two-night minimum, which puts this on the higher end for campground pricing in the region. Nearby alternatives include Sugarloaf Key RV Resort & Cottages about a mile north, and Venture Out a few miles east. As Amanda W. puts it, the property offers "clean, modern, excellent landscaping and site options." Reservations are available and recommended.

Way better than Boyds!

Clean, modern, excellent landscaping & site options. Beautiful pool, huge hot tub & hammock area. Extremely friendly & helpful staff. Only 15 mins north of Boyd’s and a thousand times better. Boat ramp, kayak launch, private beach, small dog park/run. Full hookups, laundry & shower/bath house. Trash pickup all day.

Amazing 6 night stay

KOA Patio with premium water view. Beautiful campground. More like a resort. Nice pool, bar and good food. Well equipped store. Beach area too! Landscaping is immaculate.

Wow!

Perfect location for visiting the keys. Easy access and right on the water. Check in was easy and we booked a standard back in site. While they have golf cart rentals, we didn’t need them as this is a small resort and easy to walk. They have a pool area with bar and grill, and live music. The beach has inflatables for kids. The dog park is small, but still nice. The staff is all top notch! Definitely visit the jumping bridge down the street! Great hidden gem :)

Southern most KOA

This is all brand new. And pricy. There is a 2 night minimum and sites start at $160/night (and go up). They had extensive damage from hurricane Irma in 2017 and have rebuilt everything. They have only been reopen 2 years. There is still some construction ongoing. Sites are nice. Most are tucked into the shrubberies so they have privacy. Wide sites with Gravel drives, new style hook-ups for water, electric, wifi and cable tv. Bathrooms and showers are very nice. There is a “resort style” pool, (whatever that means), a private beach (not dog friendly), hot tub, boat dock & marina, a small dog park, and kayak rental and they rent three-wheel bikes for kids to terrorize everyone. They are about 27 miles from Key West. They have a pub with “live music” till 10pm weekends. It was annoying but we found a nice little restaurant at the Geiger Key Marina, and thankfully the “music” stopped about 9:30.
