Nelsons Family Campground

Where the Connecticut River valley meets wooded hills, Nelsons Family Campground sits in East Hampton on 4.1 miles of rolling terrain from Cobalt. This established RV park operates under private management and accepts reservations year-round, with full hookups available for recreational vehicles and pets welcome throughout the property.

The campground centers around an active recreation center that hosts regular activities and events. Campers can access an on-site pool, game areas, and snack facilities within walking distance of most sites. Staff members receive consistent praise from visitors for their friendly approach and helpfulness with campground questions. Site spacing varies across the property, with some areas offering more privacy than others depending on location and permanent versus temporary placement.

"The sites aren't on top of each other, but close enough to say hi to your neighbors in the morning," notes one regular visitor. Wooded sites provide natural screening in certain sections, though shade coverage differs significantly between hillside and pond-area locations. The pond area attracts waterfowl, which creates maintenance challenges in those specific zones. Lighting intensity varies by site placement, with some areas receiving brighter illumination than others during evening hours.

For additional camping options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds near Cobalt. Nelsons Family Campground works well for families seeking organized activities and RV travelers who prefer established amenities over primitive camping experiences.

Many campers appreciated the friendly staff, family activities, and sizable sites in a peaceful setting. Some visitors noted issues with goose droppings near pond sites and bright lighting concerns.

Quiet campgroud. Avoid sites near the pond

The campground is peaceful and quiet. Lots of wooded sites available. My only complaint is that our site by the pond had goose feces everywhere. I'm sure its difficult to keep the area clear of goose droppings but they were literally everywhere. Couldn't even walk down by the pond. If we stay again we will request a site on the hill

one of the best in CT

One of our favorites in New England!

The staff is super nice, the sites aren't on top of each other, but close enough to say hi to you neighbors in the morning.

My only complaint was the lack of shade where we were, but everything else was great.

Probably my favorite campground in ct

The spaces aren’t cramped and they are quite sizable. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I don’t know what I can truly say about this campground except that I absolutely love it.

Great family camping

I grew up staying at this campground with friends and family. There are always activities going on at the Rec Center and plenty of things to keep people entertained. The site are a little close for those who don't have permanent spots, and sometimes the lights are way to bright depending on where you are, but it is a good family campground. The staff are friendly and everything is a pretty close walk for snacks, games, the pool.
