Not free dispersed camping

Sites here are developed designated sites for $10-20 per night. Each site has a picnic table and a permanent fire grate, however there is no potable water, trash services or bathrooms, there are a few vault toilets within a couple minutes drive. The road is very washboard, so though it is a short distance from town, it can make for a long drive. They do not take reservations, it is all first come, first serve, and if you need help, there are camp hosts that reside up there full-time in the summer who can suggest good hiking trails.

What camping facilities are available at Yamcolo Reservoir?

Yamcolo Reservoir offers developed designated campsites that cost $10-20 per night. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a permanent fire grate. The campground does not provide potable water, trash services, or bathrooms at the sites themselves. There are a few vault toilets available within a couple minutes' drive from the camping area. The primitive nature of the facilities makes this a good option for campers who are prepared for a more rustic experience.

Where is Yamcolo Reservoir Campground located in Colorado?

Yamcolo Reservoir Campground is located in the northwestern part of Colorado. The campground sits alongside Yamcolo Reservoir, which is in the Yampa Valley region. The area is surrounded by mountains and natural beauty typical of Colorado's high country. The access road to the campground is described as having significant washboard conditions, so visitors should be prepared for a somewhat bumpy approach to this scenic destination.

What fishing opportunities exist at Yamcolo Reservoir?

Yamcolo Reservoir offers fishing opportunities with a boat ramp available for launching watercraft. The reservoir likely contains trout species common to Colorado mountain lakes. Anglers should be aware that a valid Colorado fishing license is required. While specific fish species and catch rates aren't detailed, the presence of a dedicated boat ramp suggests the reservoir is actively managed for fishing recreation. For current fishing conditions, stocking information, and regulations, check with Colorado Parks and Wildlife before your visit.

How far is Yamcolo Reservoir Campground from Steamboat Springs?

The exact distance between Yamcolo Reservoir Campground and Steamboat Springs isn't specified, but it's within reasonable driving distance for those looking to visit the Steamboat Springs area. The route involves traveling on a washboard road for part of the journey, which may increase travel time. Visitors planning day trips between the campground and Steamboat Springs should allow extra time due to road conditions. For precise driving directions and current travel times, check with the local forest service office.
