Dusty and corrugated, FS Road 662 leads to a single first-come, first-served site within San Juan National Forest outside Pagosa Springs, free to use with no reservation required. The trees provide good overhead cover for hammocks. No 4WD is needed in summer, though the road surface warrants a slower pace. Expect no facilities and no cell signal, so arrive self-sufficient. Pack out everything you bring in, and check road conditions before heading up in shoulder seasons.
