Within Rio Grande National Forest, Tewksberry Trailhead #842 operates as a US Forest Service campground that prohibits pets. The established site sits in mixed terrain of forested areas and open spaces near a creek, though campers should prepare for rough access roads leading to the location.
The campground's proximity to South Fork provides access to sites around South Fork for those planning extended stays in the region. Cross Creek and Park Creek campgrounds lie within a few miles for campers comparing nearby options. The no-pets policy makes this destination suitable for visitors seeking a pet-free camping environment in the national forest setting.
Description
Tewksberry Trail makes a gentle ascent over scenic Meadow Pass between Cattle Mountain and Demijohn Peak. Throughout the trail, spruce, Douglas fir and aspen stands shade the pathway. Interspersed with the trees are open grassy meadows. For the first 2 miles, Tewksberry Creek meanders near and occasionally crosses the trail. A few Non-Forest Service System foot and horse trails depart from the main motorized trail. All ATV’s and Motorcycles must stay on the main motorized trail. If you wish to explore these non-system trails, park your ATV or motorcycle a few feet off the trail, and hike them.
