This is a conveniently located campground with two loops located right along US Highway 160 4.1 miles west of South Fork, Colorado. The lower loop is comprised of Aspen and a few Ponderosa pines and includes all the tent sites. The upper loop circles a knoll above US Highway 160 with shade provided by mature Ponderosa pines. This loop also provides excellent views of the surrounding area and mountains. The south fork the Rio Grande River provides fishing opportunities just south of the campground down in the valley. The newly remodeled (2010) facilities include 13 campsites with tables and fireplaces, 2 vault type toilets, and adequate turn around and parking space for RV's. No drinking water or firewood is provided. Scroll down to Information Center for individual site descriptions.
This is a NFS site along State highway 160 near South Fork Colorado. They have basic camps with fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. The also have food lockers to protect from bears. The wooden site is beautiful in the Fall surrounded by the golden leaves of aspen trees and ponderosa pines. The highlight is the river side location and the beautiful views of the mountains. The site has a fairly high elevation which can provide cool summer temps and early frost even in September. Surprisingly, the site was half full in September. I would stay here again.
