Accessible via gravel road, Lower Beaver Creek Campground provides 24 drive-in and walk-in sites within Rio Grande National Forest near South Fork. The US Forest Service manages this seasonal campground from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with sites accommodating RVs up to 35 feet. Reservations are available at $24 per night, though campers report finding availability even during peak summer months.
The campground sits alongside Beaver Creek, where families often set up camp within sight and sound of flowing water. Children can fish and play in the creek while parents watch from picnic tables at their sites. Each site includes a fire pit, picnic table, and bear box, with vault toilets and hand-pump well water available throughout the campground. Cell service reaches most areas, and both pets and alcohol are permitted.
Road conditions require attention, particularly for larger RVs. "I wouldn't bring a trailer over 23 ft and expect to fit," notes James M.. The gravel access road can challenge drivers after dark or in poor weather, though sites remain easy to locate once inside the campground. A camp host maintains the grounds and facilities during operating season.
The location works well for accessing campsites near South Fork or exploring nearby Beaver Reservoir. Most campers appreciate the consistent sound of creek water and the relative quiet despite proximity to forest roads.
