Free and hike-in only, Silver Lake sits at 12,500 feet in the San Juan Mountains above Telluride, managed by the National Forest. Getting there requires a 3.4-mile route with 1,500 feet of elevation gain, starting from the top of Bridal Veil Falls. The access road up the switchbacks can be blocked by snow well into May, so timing matters. No formal facilities exist, though at least one old grill may be on-site. Campfires are allowed, pets are welcome, and several patches of firm, flat ground provide workable tent sites beside the lake.
