Parry Peak — Psicc

Lake Creek tumbles past this first-come, first-serve campground set in lodgepole pine and aspen forest along Colorado Highway 82. Sites spread across two loops with gravel pads, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground sits close enough to the road that sites 1 and 3 pick up highway noise during daytime hours, though traffic quiets after dark when Independence Pass sees little use.

Most sites offer decent spacing and shade from the mature forest canopy. The lower loop positions campers closer to Lake Creek, where the water rushes over rocks and boulders. N I. notes "You will spot anglers all along the creek enjoying fly fishing." A camp host stays on-site to answer questions and sell firewood, while vault toilets serve both loops.

The campground currently operates without potable water, requiring campers to bring their own supply or travel to Leadville for refills. Cell service proves spotty throughout most sites, with T-Mobile users finding limited signal near the front gate. The maintained dirt access road handles most vehicles adequately, though it's not perfectly smooth.

Elevation here brings potential altitude concerns for some visitors. Check-in starts at 2 PM with checkout at noon, and quiet hours run from 10 PM to 6 AM. The location provides access to hiking trails up Independence Pass and proximity to Twin Lakes for additional recreation.

Many campers appreciated the well-spaced, private sites in a shaded forest setting near Lake Creek. The lack of water is a consistent concern, though clean facilities and quiet nighttime atmosphere were highlights.

No water and higher prices

This is a lovely old campground. No water. The fs office said it was because the state changed the regs. on potable safe water and many campgrounds couldn't pass the new biometrics. I did notice the campgrounds closer to aspen have water. Hm? So we had to go to leadville to get water. 12 bucks for 30 gals. What are we paying for? Why won't the federal gov. give the forest service the money is needs. The state makes billions for outdoor rec. It is a travesty to pay 25 to 30 a night and worn out same old campgrounds for decades and now no water while the concessions rake it in.

Beautiful campground!

I usually only do dispersed camping but this weekend we found Parry Peak Campground and decided to do it. The spaces are spread out and private and the pit toilets are some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen. We camped in the lower loop of the campground and could hear the rushing river all night and loved it. We will definitely be back!

We Camp Here Often

For some reason this is a go to spot in this area. The spaces are a little close together but there is some privacy. Close to a lot of hiking. They did not have water the previous time we were there. I know they were working on it.

SiteI cannot remember.

Picnic table, fire ring, toilet, firewood from camp host

Shady lodge pole pine and aspen forest that is set along the Lake Creek whitewater. You will spot anglers all along the cheek enjoying fly fishing. The stream is beautiful as it tumbles along and over the rocks and boulders. The campground is nice and flat with some decent size sites. Gravel base. Nicely shaded. Sites 1& 3 might be a bit noisy due to the highway that runs along the side of the campground. You may buy firewood from the camp host.

If you plan a trip be aware of the possibility of altitude sickness.

Nice with a few flaws

This campground is just a couple miles up from town. Each site has a fire ring and a table. There is no electric, and despite what is stated, there is no water. There are 2 halves. There is a host on site who was available for questions. I have T-Mobile and could get some signal IF by the front gate. Dirt road, but maintained well enough, but not perfect. If on the right loop, many if the sites are just below the road. You hear it during the day, but even in a tent it did not bother me at night

Great campground, close to the pass and lots of hiking.

Some spots close to the road but it gets quiet at night as Independence pass is not heavily trafficked after dark.  It is in a great location, close to Twin Lakes but also all the hiking up the pass.  All first come first serve.  Pets are allowed, we had our dog with us.
