Such a lovely camp but where are toilets and water?

Site 23. Best place in a long time as far as view and quiet. Good sites all around. But when is recreation resource management of America going to.get it's literal s#@t together and have water and actual toilets? Porta pottys don't last that long and the ones near us are scary full! Only one dumpster and the other trash receptacles are taped over. Come on rrmofa makes millions!

Grand mesa is a special place

Grand mesa is the largest mesa in the world. For over 150 years cattle have roamed here. They need to go. It is time. The diversity and wildlife will slowly be destroyed and it is exponential. The climate is changing and places like this need to to be protected they are our arks. No atvs no generators no cattle. Would improve.the place.ten fold. And absolutely no logging. Ban all fires! We are about to lose it all including Grand mesa. Wake up.

Not a good place to go anywhere on halfmoon crk

This entire area is in sore need of reworking and ban fires. With all the dead trees all along half moon crk it is a disaster waiting to happen. No one is taking care of the area. There is no water in any of the cg. Dispersed areas are overrun and worn out. The road is constant traffic to the trail head and they line up for miles down it. People rush up and down putting everyone as risk. Insane how this has been allowed to get to this point.

Fire looking for a place to happen

This entire area all the way to the trail head is awful. It is so crowded and worn out. The cars are lined up along the road for miles. People rushing up and down without regard for anyone else's safety. All I see is no water except in the creek for anyone to use or put out campfires. Which are all over the place. People pulling in and making camp rings I places they are not supposed to. To many in each camp. This area needs to be shut down and reworked. Don't go here.

Host isn't keeping up

This is a beautiful little campground along turquoise lake. But…the host is not keeping up. The toilets a very dirty especially the men's. The sites were neglected by the last concession and the new one advenco hasn't had a chance to fix anything? There is no water unless you filter from the lake or brought enough to put out your fire. We rolled in an an active unattended fire was across from the host site. I couldn't get an answer at his door so I took a jug of water from his cart and put it out as the wind picked up and it flamed. There were open abandoned reservations. Trash is a constant where ever we go and though not as much as some it was obvious the host does little to check the sites. He is sweet but….

One of those gems

The campground won't accommodate fifth wheels only horse and rv up to 30 or so. Many of the sites in the 30,s up are useless other than a van. Tent sites are not good. Very uneven pads. The 40,s are much better and all mostly tents. The sites below 30 to 1 are pretty nice. Must say the hosts for the new concession explorUS were doing a bang up job.

No water and higher prices

This is a lovely old campground. No water. The fs office said it was because the state changed the regs. on potable safe water and many campgrounds couldn't pass the new biometrics. I did notice the campgrounds closer to aspen have water. Hm? So we had to go to leadville to get water. 12 bucks for 30 gals. What are we paying for? Why won't the federal gov. give the forest service the money is needs. The state makes billions for outdoor rec. It is a travesty to pay 25 to 30 a night and worn out same old campgrounds for decades and now no water while the concessions rake it in.

Would be perfect except...

For the methane and H2S games that waft through the camp. This morning the air was unbreathable. We read water quality reports and the lake fish should not be eaten due to ddt Nice camp if you only stay a couple of days to see the caves. We were at Sitting bull falls and experienced a 5.4 fracking quakes.

Beauty beyond compare

We spent two weeks near vela resevoir. No fish but lots of mushrooms. The first trees are inoxicating. We are disappointed in the virtual take over by atvs. There are only 4 hiking trails dedicated for hiking. The atvs are allowed everywhere and even sig s stating no motor vehicles are ignored. They ruin meadows, roads, boat ramps. Noisy and stinky. We had to Bushwack to get quiet. It rained alot but we love rain.

Little sweet spot.

Lovely view. Little windy and smoky this season. Several levels spots. Bird song. Big pinions. You can bike up here.

Nice place but where is the camp host?

This is the second summer here. Lovely except no camp host. The toilets are all in need of tending. Already end of June. And full. People are coming up here putting tickets on first come first serve without occupying the space. That should not be allowed nor should putting a fake tent down. Another trailer didn't leave when the date said and no one around. I was told the trailer had been there for days. I think the forest service should get rid of all private companies who run our parks. Refund the forest service. Recreation.gov is out of Canada for Pete's sake.
