Fooses Creek Dispersed Camping

Free dispersed camping along Fooses Creek requires a vehicle with higher clearance to navigate the rocky, single-lane access road. The route features uneven terrain with scattered boulders, though standard SUVs can typically make the journey with careful driving.

Campsites spread along the creek provide the sound of flowing water throughout the night. Most sites offer enough space for large tents and vehicles, with some accommodating multiple setups. The creek runs directly behind many camping spots, creating natural white noise that masks other sounds. Sites remain somewhat level despite the mountainous terrain, and shade covers most areas during peak sun hours.

Beverly O. notes this is a "really beautiful place to boondock." Cell phone service reaches most areas, allowing campers to stay connected. The road continues past initial sites to a trailhead, offering additional camping options for those willing to explore further. Mosquitoes can be numerous during warmer months.

Campers seeking other options in the area can explore campgrounds near Monarch or visit nearby Colorado Trail Dispersed for similar backcountry experiences. Pack extra clearance for your vehicle and arrive with patience for the narrow access road.

Visitors often highlighted the massive, well-spaced sites along a peaceful creek with beautiful water sounds. Road access requires higher clearance vehicles due to rocky, uneven terrain, but most found it manageable.

Great overnight for leaf peeping

Very serene and beautiful stop. The road has alot of uneven terrain with some boulders. I would recommend 4WD & higher clearance - not for your standard sedan. Sites are spread apart and along the creek & somewhat level. The road in is a single lane so be kind & patient. Really beautiful place to boondock. No problems getting there in my 4x4 sprinter van.

Great spot

Stayed right by the creek which was serene and relaxing to sleep to. We easily found a site that fit two tents. There’s a nice little trailhead and hike nearby from the site. Keep going down the road to find sites, you’ll know you reached the end if you hit the trailhead. There may have been other smaller roads and sites to explore but we found our site early enough to not explore further. Secluded, shaded sites and the road in was very manageable in a standard SUV. Rocky at parts but not the entire way in.

Serene

This place was an absolute GEM. The camping spots are massive. We had room for our 10 person tent, mini van, and PLENTY of room to spare. You could put 2-3 of the massive tents where we were. The creek was directly behind us and made beautiful sounds all night. There were a ton of mosquitos, but I never saw any animals or signs of animals. The people at the site before us left their trash bag and a bunch of trash in the fire pit which is really disappointing. Overall, excellent place to stay and not super busy. Our mini van did bottom out at one part of the road, but it worked out okay.

Our second choice

We were headed to another location we found in Dirt but the snow was still to much for us. We decided to go to this spot at Fooses. In the morning we went further down the road but was blocked by a fallen tree. Was quite and near the river/stream. Car friendly, sorta. We had phone service.
