Great campsite!

Perfect campsite for being remote but still close to some conveniences if you would like. I stayed with my group of 7 from Thursday 7/23 to Sunday 7/26. All the reserved spots were booked so we were hoping to get lucky with FF. We arrived around 4pm and had no problem finding two spots, this review is for spots 8 and 20. We used 8 as the hangout spot, it’s a good size. We were close to the toilets, no problem with sound or smell. During the day the spots don’t feel super private but come nightfall it isn’t an issue, we were still able to play music at a reasonable level with no complaints and didn’t hear others as well. Trailheads to mount zirkel are 15 minutes away, highly recommend the hike to lake Gilpin. There is no cell service at the campground, but if you go into Clark which is about 20 minutes, they have free WiFi. Great spot for firewood, the grill is really good *note only open until 3 while the store is open until 8, also a pizza pop up in the parking lot! It definitely got colder at night and one morning rain for 2 hours. Got down into the 40’s so definitely recommend packing warm even in summer.

Awesome getaway

Great place for a getaway, minutes from multiple hiking trails or streams for some fly fishing.  Stop by and visit the store in nearby Clark.  If you need a shower or to do a load of laundry Steamboat lake isn’t far away and has a day pass for $7 to use all the facilities and hang out for a day.  We stayed in site 16 and the sound of the river was nice to fall asleep to at night. We had a nice view of the mountain range from the site as well.  We will be back for sure.

The River

The best part of the camp was without a doubt the Elk River. It was beautiful and you could hear it throughout much of the camp. We were even able to fall asleep to the sound of the river.
