Fishing draws some campers to Big Creek Reservoir, though recent visitors report the fishing has been poor, and the lake is subject to summer drawdowns. The campground sits within Grand Mesa National Forest at elevation, with overnight temperatures dropping below freezing even in early summer. Access requires a long gravel road drive. Sites show signs of deferred maintenance, including overgrown vegetation and worn picnic tables, and cell service is unavailable. A hand pump provides well water on site. Bring extra layers regardless of the forecast, and expect limited connectivity throughout your stay.
