Nice FF alternative to Island Lake CG

This CG is a much tighter site campground (no big RVs or 5th wheels IMO) than Island Lake CG nearby. Little Bear CG is all FF, and has about 34 sites. Vault toilets, water spigots, and dumpsters. $20/$10 senior. CG Host onsite, firewood for sale $10. Cell signal limited to none. I use Starlink-RV.

Access to Island Lake by foot paths from some sites and the very nice Island Lake Trail that hugs the entire east side of the lake.

Good, relaxing vaca

Great place to go. Always enjoy camping in Grand Mesa. It’s not as busy as the Front Range and most spots are easy to get to

Wonderful spot

I pulled up early on a Friday morning and managed to snag a spot pretty close to the lake. Fantastic view and right next to the walking trails. The camp sights are spaced out enough but there isn't a much for privacy. The scenery makes it all worth it though. Unfortunately the spot I was in, was close to the restrooms. While convenient, I could also catch whiffs of the bathroom. No fun. Overall the sites were clean, maintained, and the camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely get back here!

Little Bear Campground

Great campground! Super close to the lake. The camp hosts were so nice. When we went it was $20 per night, which is different from what I found online.

We left hell and found heaven

We went searching for a free camping spot near Gunnison and got horribly stuck in mud on roads that were too awful for our car, even with 4wheel drive. So after a stressful day, we finally came to this campground and found paradise. On the 4th of July, there were spots available. The host was very nice. Plenty of shade and trees, and it is 30 steps away from a gorgeous lake. Good fishing. Easy paddle boarding. Lots of bugs
